Absolutely! You just don't join it and crochet in rows. By the end, you'll have a scarf, and if you like, you can sew the sides to make it an infinity scarf.

On that first round, are you going into just the single back bump of the chain...leaving the two (v-shape) loops on the topside unworked?

You forgot to add the slip stitch at the end of the rounds to connect it in the written pattern by the way. otherwise looks great!

There is no diagram; I just looped it twice, and it twisted on its own. It is always a different-looking twist though☺ But most of the time I wear it wrapped three times around my neck as it keeps me warmer! 😀
