Tip: working into the back bump of the beginning chain makes for a stretchier edge. Similarly, using a foundation double crochet row which will also provide stretchiness.
Love when instructors list all materials needed prior to beginning as well as explaining the process. Definitely following channel! Thank you. Pattern is beautiful 💕💕
I was never able to get the hang of crocheting much past chains so I haven't seriously crocheted in years, but one of my cats is an old man and he's starting to get colder as it gets closer to winter. He already has a few sweaters because one of my other cats (really) likes wearing them, but I decided he need something for his little leggies too. I haven't finished them (still getting the hang of things and keeping stitch tension somewhat even) but I will say scaling your human pattern to fit his teeny little kitty legs has been one of the most delightful challenges I've had in a while! Even as a leftie, you explain things really clearly and I appreciate it! I'm sure Bob will too once I get them finished! 🤣😸
These are just adorable, hoping my grand daughter will love them. I've made two seperate pieces, first one was too big for her, second one is perfect so now I need to make her the matching one. :) Your video is perfect and after making the first one, I had it down and it worked right along. I can see these in so many different yarns and colors. Thank you so much for your time in putting the video together, it made a world of difference. :)
I’m so happy to hear that! It’s really good to hear that you’ve be able to resize them successfully because although I found them easy to resize, no one comes back to tell me if it worked for them! 😆 But I’m so glad you were able to resize them for her. She is going to love them, especially during the colder months!
A really great pattern and very doable for a beginner. That being said I used a size 5.5mm needle, sized down these leg warmers and did 7 less rows for each and using the 465 yds of fisherman's wool I just ran out with 1.5 rounds left to go on my last leg warmer😂 I could have sized down even more, they are very slouchy and don't stay up without socks and leggings underneath, which is fine, just know if you want them to be snug and stay up you'll probably want to go down an additional multiple of 4.
i’ve never watched anything about crocheting, didn’t even know the terms, but still found this a really easy to follow tutorial! super clear and easy to understand
It is so much easy, I just finished doing one leg to a leg warmer, and man was it hard to finish, then I'm going and kept watching more and I found your video so easy, I'm undoing the last part of it and follow this one, I'm a beginner and I have to do this one, thanks for your patience with us who are learning..🥰🥰
I finally did it! My first big and complicated project! It took a lot of tears and frustration but I stuck to it and I love my new leg warmers. I have bought the pattern also to support this channel because I really appreciate the fact that you post free patterns with videos to help beginners learn. Thanks so much. I'm really happy I stuck with it.
Great video. Great pace and explanation and the close up for the hard to find stitches. My only suggestion is that on the rows you did the slip stitch and then you changed 1, you don’t actually mention the chain 1. Some may miss seeing you doing it on the video. Just a suggestion. Great video.
Love your video. It's very clear how you show the instructions. I just had a few questions. I wanted to make leg warmers to go over my skates, like the ice skate boot covers. However, I like how your warmers look. I was just wondering how to flare the bottom so that it can go over my skating boots but also have that elastic narrowed cuff so that it hugs the boot. Thanks.
That’s all I’m about over here! If you’re looking to learn, I have many tutorials and free challenges on my website! You can find everything here www.sigonimacaroni.com Let me know if you have any questions about learning!
For your support stitch in beginning that combines both ends to make a circle...are you going into the middle of the top of the chain 3, or are you going underneath it before you yarn over? I always thought a slip stitch went under the stitch, but this looks like you're going through the middle of the stitch. I've already pulled my work out three times because I keep getting off my stitch count, or I goof up a stitch. Now, I'm scrutinizing every step. I'm determined. 😁 Thank you! 🥰
I'm so glad you found it helpful! Share your finished leg warmers with me when you're finished! You can tag me @sigonimacaroni across all social media, but I'm most active on Instagram and inside my Facebook group ❤️
Thank you! Great pattern and very easy. One thing I can’t figure out. How long were your leg warmers? I think my yarn was thicker so I did less repeats. But I am curious what length your finished product was?
Shouldn’t we decrease the last single row? The bottom cuff should be smaller than the top. In order to fit my ankle, I had to decrease. I did three and then two together. I love that when you turn them inside out, it’s a whole other pattern and it’s beautiful. Thank you. Took me a while but I finally got it.

I made for my daughter watching ur video they r not so perfect like urs but I learned.thank you so much.i wanna show u pic of mine to u but I don't know how
Hi Kaylie, I'm not sure what you mean. At the end of each round you should be slip stitching to the first or turning chain of the round. If you want, you can send me an email at hello@sigonimacaroni.com with a photo of your work if you think you're doing something wrong. Let me know!
Just starting the pattern now. Great. I had some fisherman's wool already so this is great. Boot cuffs for the extra is there is enough? I am small so they will be shorter for me hopefully. How tall are you? Your calf measurement and leg length would be great.
Are you measuring the widest part of your calf or the top where the top of the leg warmer sits? I am guessing thickest part since it has to go around the wider part later on. Then again they stretch and are slouchy. Maybe that is the slouchy part?
So I am on round 9. I adjusted the size and removed 8 stitches. It is pretty snug but still fits. I am wondering if I should have tried just 4... How snug are they supposed to be? Thought slouchy. The original is Def too big. I am petite. My calf measures 12 - 12 1/2 inches at widest. Curious your calf measurement. Hmmm.. Do I commit or start over and see what I like.
A multiple of 4 plus 2! You have 45 stitches, which you can not divide by 4. Why the extra stitch? It only messes up your seam. To get a flawless seam and even "bricks" as you called them, you should stick to a stitch count that you can divide by 4! To do that, you add 2 and not 3 to your starting chain, because as you said, your chain 3 throughout your work counts as a stitch. Try it, it's gonna look so much better. 🙂
You're excellent in math, Paula Harris. Have you watched the tutorial and made the legwarmers? If yes, then you should know that your '+3" counts as a double crochet, which makes it 1 stitch. 44+1.... After your chain, your first row needs to have 44 stitches. She has 45, which you can't divide by 4, which means the pattern is off. So, if you chain 44+2, and use 3 chains for your first double crochet, you'll have 43 left. Together, you'll have 44 double crochets......got it? Just trying to help.
Does the type of yarn affect how Cleary I can see my stitches? I’m using acrylic yarn instead of wool and it’s a little difficult for me to see my stitches.
13:31 I am having the hardest time understanding what we are doing here after the slip stitch and ch3. Skipping the first single crochet keeps causing a huge gap in the “seam” at every connection point for all subsequent dc rows. It just looks horrendous. My yarn is not as high quality as yours so I do have trouble equating your stitches with where mine are because mine blends whereas yours stand out separately very well.
Help for ppl who might be beginners and need a little more: (these are the rounds that are repeated a bunch , a tutorial having timestamps for the rounds is usually a very good indicator of the overall quality of a tutorial) round 6 7:30 round 7 9:47 round 8 12:36 round 9 13:26 The times are aprox. This tutorial is not very clear where she rambles a bit and there isnt a clear stop and start . She also assumes slip stich means slip stich + 1 chain. (which she sometimes mentions sometimes not) 10 minutes in she realizes she didnt mention the stitch count which is 45. (unfortunately the written version also has some unclear stuff but use it as support for this video) Overall this tutorial is decent compared to others but its not well structured and its sort of random what she chooses to mention or not. Def not beginner beginner friendly but if youre like an advanced/medium beginner it should be fine. This pattern does have an unnecessary big seam which might be an issue for some. Happy Crocheting :)
please explain sizing ...my measurement is 15.5 inches . i don't understand the take measurement minus 3.5 and then do you add the 1 plus 3...how many inches or stitches...i am so confused
I'm confused as well. In your fc you began by making 47 stitches. Does this mean that your measurement around the calf was 10"? I was trying to backwards plan what number in inches you started from to end up with 47. 47-3=44-3.5(so they're snug)=40.5, then round down to 40 so it's a multiple of 4, then divide by 4=10". Did I figure this correctly? My measurement was 16". Would my foundation chain be 15? [16-3.5=12.5 round down to 12, then 12+3=15]. This just seems very little ro be accurate. Does 1" = 1 stitch? The more I think about it the more confused I make myself. Math😵💫 thank you for your help!
It wasn't too hard for me to pull it over my foot. They may be a little too tight. But if they're perfect when on, then they may stretch over time and work out!
I have a silly question. When you measure your calf, do you measure around leggings (or whatever you plan to wear with the leg warmers) or do you measure the bare calf? Also, could I use 3 weight wool yarn and just use a smaller hook and go from there?
Yes you can absolutely do that! As long as you follow the same foundation chain multiple. That’s a great question about how to measure. I measured around my bare legs and that seemed to do the trick but you can also measure around your leggings. I don’t think it’ll make too much of a difference. You’ll just want to make sure they fit snug no matter what you’re wearing underneath 😊
Just love your instructions - I am an 82 yr grandma & lost a lot of weight - so my calf measures 10.1/2” and my thigh above my knee measure 12.1/2” please help me with these measurements a I want it above my knee (thigh high) so as not to fall down easily. Going to my gr.daughter’s wedding on Nov.18 at St. Catherines and predicting it will be pretty cold! Brrrrrr!! Thank you.
@@SigoniMacaroni tried to get it, but I'm not getting the same thing when joining rounds. My stitches don't seem to look "pulled open" like yours. I gave up after pulling out rounds 6-9 four times. Maybe it's the yarn I'm using loops and threads impeccable?
This pattern isn't the most beginner friendly pattern, but you can as long as you follow the video. If you find it hard to follow you might want to become more familiar with front post/back post stitches and working in the back loop/front loop before starting this one.
I'm sorry it took me a few days to get back with you, but yes you can! You can try using the 5mm hook for the cuff and then move up to a 5.5mm or even a 6mm for the body of the leggings and then switch back down to a 5mm for the end cuff. I hope that works out! Come back and let me know if it does 😊
Just add on a new skein making sure to use the same yarn you've been using. If you've never added on a new skein, you can find a video on how to do that here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7YY8sUFX81E.html It says "change color" in the title but you can use this method for adding on a new ball of yarn as well.
I resized to make these for a petite woman. So, my foundation chain was 32 +1+2=35. When you said to count your stitches and they should be 45, mine obviously weren't. But I followed the rest of your video to the T. I double checked and made sure I wasn't skipping any stitches. I tried as best I could to put the single crochets where you showed us to. BUT, at the end of the next row, I didn't end up with the 3 double crochets - I ended up with the 1 front loop double crochet next to the chain 3. Not sure where I went wrong. Help! I'd really like to make these, but I'm about ready to frog and just do another pattern.
Have you tried following the written pattern? It might be more helpful to read exactly what you're supposed to do and use the video more for help locating the stitches. You can find the written pattern here: www.sigonimacaroni.com/slouchy-crochet-leg-warmers-beginner-friendly-pattern-one-skein/ If you're still having trouble you can always send me an email or a message on Instagram with a photo and I'd be happy to help.
@@SigoniMacaroni i am having the same issue, if the stitch count is supossed to be (45), the how does the ch 3 count, if we go from 45 an then the ch 3 counts it will be come 46. i also end with a FPDC beside the first ch 3 and if i count and add the ch 3 , i now have 46. i have also followed the written patteren. what am i doing wrong? Please help! The pattern is beautiful.
Is anyone else having extreme problems with stitch count? I've redone it 7 times now and I still end up with a ton more stitches than I started with after the DC rows. I've made sure I'm skipping the one every 3 and it looks exactly like the one in the video and still, my stitches go up by like 10. I don't understand and I am very close to giving up
Since you start with 40ish stitches and you're 10 over it sounds like you aren't skipping the 4th stitch. It should be 3 double crochets and then a double crochet in the top loop skipped from the previous row. So when you do your 3 double crochets, a double crochet in that top loop skipped and do the next three double crochets - the loops you're putting you double crochet in should have a stitch skipped in between because stitch number 4 isn't on same row as number 3 it's in the previous row. It sounds like you're doing DC 4 on the previous row but then when you start the next 3 DC you're putting it in same row as the previous 3 DC. So the top row should have 3 DC then essentially as skipped loop as that DC is in previous row.
I just started the leg warmers. When I got to round 6 (where you start the 3 DC, and then 1 DC "below" - what I did to make sure I didn't increase the number of stitches: I did the 3 DC and then in the next stitch I put a stitch counter (I actually use bobby pins), I then did the DC in the row below (which is the front loop skipped in the previous round) and then I started the next 3 DC in the loop after the bobby pin.
Oh no! You may be working an extra stitch at the beginning of your round. Remember that the chain 3 counts as a stitch so you will skip the very first stitch
