This is the best oval explanation ever created! I had not understood ovals before until this tutorial and frankly I always dreaded dealing with them before. Thank you so much for breaking it down! I actually know what I'm supposed to do for the perfect oval now😊

Just an additional piece of information to add to this, each semicircle will increase by 3 stitches every round (the normal principal of growing a circle is to increase every round by the number of stitches you started with), which applies here for the semicircle.

I'm late to the game, but still wanted to say THANK YOU! I have been crocheting for years, but avoid ovals. If I must use an oval (say a base for a bag) it's always some kind of workaround. I just made one along with you and carefully wrote down the steps. Success! I always understood the concept of semicircles on the ends and increasing the way you would regular circles. The first round where you went back into the SAME stitch coming into the bottom of the rectangle FINALLY made me aware of my problem.
