I'm 73 and have been crocheting since my mother taught me at 9 years . But my specialty is large doilies. I have even won awards for them BUT making a nice hat like this, was a challenge I had never tried. After watching your video, I'm ready to make hats for my family.... and my grandsons. Thanks for your easy, beautiful pattern.. You;re never too old to learn a new lesson. Thanks.

Hi Silvia, I too learned to crochet @ 9 years old, not from my parent, but from a class mate whose grandmother taught her, back then doilies were very popular and very beautiful so I Made several sets in different colors and trims for my mother. when I was expecting my 1st kid I learned to crochet baby pillows, coverlets for the crib, and decorative pillows for my mother, Now that I'm retired I've make a covering for my king size bed, and I've learned to make different styles of hats, and purses for gifts. recently I found out that my friend passed away, I regret that I didn't thank her for the wonderful gift that she shared with me way back then. it's the gift that continues to give and give, and give after all of these years."Phyllis Jackson" May you rest in Peace...

I love this pattern and you are such a great instructor! I began to crochet about a year ago and made one of these for my granddaughter. I added a furry pom pom, too. She loved it! Dear Jonna, thank you for this smart and easy to follow video instructions. Thank you for paying attention to details and explaining the critical points, such as how to count stiches, how to turn, how to transition, how to tie lose ends... I am not a beginner, but nonetheless appreciated your approach to training and sharing your experience. Now, in this time of Coronavirus isolaiton, I'm going to make the hat. It is adorabe, and seems easy. Thank goodness, I have lots of yarn in the house. I'll be back for more. Thanks again.

Yes! If you didn’t use super bulky yarn it will be too small. Try my easiest worsted hat ever. Hi! As a beginner, it was confusing at the end in closing the loop and tying the knot. Can you please recommend other references where I can get help?

I’m sorry that was confusing. You just cut your yarn and pull it though where your hook was. Check out more step by step photos on my blog. Jonnamartinez.com thank you for watching and commenting!

Hello. Your design is very nice. I tried it but 25 stitches is just not enough for an adult. I had to make almost 100 chains.. Not sure if what I am doing is correct
@JonnaMartinezCrochet
@JonnaMartinezCrochet 5 лет назад
Your yarn probably not the right weight. You must have a super bulky (6) for it to come out like mine. Thank you for watching.

Hi may i know why my 27 stitch is shorter than yours and why my seems like getting shorter and shorter when i knit. can give me some advice
@JonnaMartinezCrochet
@JonnaMartinezCrochet Год назад
Hello Shirley, you should go up a hook size or two and be sure the yarn is a (6) or (7) bulky. The yarn I used for this hat was very thick. And I crochet loosely. Then use two stitch markers and place them in the first and last stitches of your first two rows move them up as you go. When it gets smaller like that you are skipping the last stitches because they are rounded and hard to see, I will also link my new Hat tutorial for you to check out. Thanks for watching.

I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong but one side is straight yet the other side is angled. Why is that? I’m having to pull everything out to the first two rows. Help!
@JonnaMartinezCrochet
@JonnaMartinezCrochet 4 года назад
You’re not crocheting into the correct number of stitches so you are loosing them. Count each stitch after every row so you can make sure you have the right number. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Update for anyone who's interested: I made it in time and it turned out way better than I expected! This was a great tutorial, thank you :) (definitely not)Pro tips I learned the hard way: 1) Make sure your hook is large enough. I used a smaller hook (6) as I got smaller yarn and it was just a tad too small. I did finish it with the said hook but I'm assuming it would have been easier with a 7 or so. 2) You don't have to superman every loop to be super tight. This will make the hook get stuck on previous loops when you are pulling through them. Making sure the loops aren't left loose to the point of leaving holes in your hat is enough.

Hello William! I like to keep my options open so I don’t work with only one brand of yarn. I have several favorites as you’ll notice in my tutorials. This pink yarn on the cover is Lion brand hometown USA. I’m a big fan of lion brand yarns. Very good quality, lovely colors and easy to work with. (Not sponsored or affiliated but would love to be 😂) I’d say they are my favorite in the bulky departments. Thank you for watching and commenting! Have a wonderful time making this hat and hopefully more crochet pieces after this!

First... GREAT TUTORIAL!! SECONDLY... If you want an adult sized hat you have to do more than 22 rows! Just wrap it around your head until both ends meet. I did 35 rows to make it big and not too tight!

I'm 15 and I've only ever learned how to crochet a single chain. For years, a lot of my family members have been crocheters, and I've always wanted to be one too. So I sat down and made this project in a few hours, and the result was gorgeous! Thanks to your tutorial, I've found a new passion for crocheting, and can finally put the materials that once belonged to my great grandmother to good use. Thank you so much
