For some reason, I had a really hard time 'GETTING' this, but I watched the video a bunch of times, watched another gal's video, came back to this one and, finally, after all that, and after frogging my first 8 moderate-sized squares, I GOT IT. (Thanks be to God!) I don't know what I would do without these wonderful videos that I can play over and over again. If I was relying on a "live" teacher IRL, I'm betting they would lose patience with me LONG before RU-vid video would! Thanks for doing this.

This video was amazing and so helpful to figure out how to get the square straight and not twisted! I did however have a question about changing color- I can get the new color attached and work the round, but when it comes to joining with a slip stitch, I can’t find where to join it at since the first stitch of the new color is slightly different than a regular stitch. Also, when I do my slip stitch and turn, there’s a defined stitch where I did that. How do I fix that??
@TwistedYarns
@TwistedYarns 2 года назад
Glad you found this video helpful. That's a very good question. When you add the new color, you are pulling up a loop from a space (which represents the first sc) and then working a ch 1. When you come back around, you can either insert the hook right into the middle of the loop (not the chain), this is my preference, or you can insert the hook into the space formed by the first ch of the round. When you turn the work and crochet the next row, whether you did it the first way or the second way, the slight variance disappears.
@brittanymorton6819
@brittanymorton6819 2 года назад
@@TwistedYarns okay I will give that a go! Thank you! I was also wondering about when I slip stitch and turn to start the next row, there is a defined stitch where I do this and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong to get that. It’s on every row.
@TwistedYarns
@TwistedYarns 2 года назад
When you slip st at the end of each round, you go under the top 2 loops of the 1st sc. But make sure that you turn the work (if you are right handed) toward you. The left edge move toward you counterclockwise until it reaches your right thumb. That way the feeder yarn falls right over the space where you place the first sc. Watch the video again as the direction of turning your work is quite improtant for a very neat transistion from round to round in the same color. If you are left handed, I produced a video for the moss stitch square for lefthanders. The direction of the turn is from right to left toward you in a clockwise direction.

Thank you for this video, also I have a question, if I have already made a twisted one by accident, will blocking it help make it look more square?
@TwistedYarns
@TwistedYarns Год назад
I'm sorry to say...probably not. It may look better after blocking but it certainly takes away the textural qualitites of the stitch. Depending on the fiber though, it may return to the twisted shape after washing.

Thank you for this video, I've watched several on continuous/infinity moss stitch, yours is very clear and understandable, I love the look of how you do the colour change with the double strand. I have a couple of questions about colour changing - first, do you still chain one and then slip stitch with the first colour? Your video shows your row finished before you trim the tail. Also, do you always stop the first colour and start the new colour in another side? Is this to move the line that is created from the slip stitches from being in the same place up the entire blanket? I hope I'm making sense lol.
@TwistedYarns
@TwistedYarns 7 месяцев назад
First, thanks for watching! Now for your questions... I hope I understood your questions correctly. These color changes are assuming you are ending a row and then making the color change. Yes, you complete the moss stitch with a chain-1 and slip st in the same color. Cut the yarn and pull the end through. Weave it in. For solid colors, yes I stopped the first color and go to a different side because I finished an entire round. Yes, that just staggers the line that is created when changing colors in the middle of a side, but you do not have to move it. I just think it is preferable. If you are changing colors and have not finished an entire round then try to make the color change at a corner. You may want to watch my video, How to Crochet the Moss Stitch with Self-Striping Yarn at this link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NGdEZEskVeE.html In it I move all directional changes to the corner so that you have no line running up the side which would be very obvious with self striping yarn.
@cathymartin3379
@cathymartin3379 7 месяцев назад
I watched the video you suggested seversl times but unfortunately I found it very confusing in the corners, so I guess I'll just have to stick to changing colours on the sides but thanks anyway!

I always recommend using a worsted weight yarn. Try something like Red Heart Super Saver 100% acrylic yarn or if you prefer a softer yarn Hobby Lobby's I love this yarn is great. I am confused at the beginning. Can I just use a magic circle? would it be magic circle which is completed with one chain. Do I just do two as the first stitch? I can't follow the yo. is it a single crochet? I know crochet stitches. fully lost.
@TwistedYarns
@TwistedYarns 2 года назад
You can start with a magic circle if you like and which is completed with one chain. The reason I start with 2 chains is it is just a preference and it helps weave in the end . When I wrap the yarn tail around the hook, it just allows me to pull up and close the center and also once again helps to weave the end in a little further. You can start either way.

When changing color, Do you have to turn your work on every row?
@TwistedYarns
@TwistedYarns Год назад
Turning on every row allows the Square to be untwisted. If using solids and variegated the color work is clear and sharp. As we speak, I am working on a new video to address using self-striping yarn. It will be out in about 2 days.

@TwistedYarns
@TwistedYarns 2 года назад
For all those who are crocheting left-handed, the secret to success is to turn the square in the opposite direction than shown in the video. Take the right edge and move it forward toward you like you are turning a page of a book and move it to the left thumb. This will put the feeder yarn right over the space in which the first stitch of the next row should be worked. Would it be helpful for me to do a little video showing how this technique is done left-handed?
