This looks amazing! DMC makes a water-soluble canvas specifically for cross stitch if you want to try this again 😁

If you do this again look for Cross Stitch Waste Fabric. It is made to be pulled out of the work a lot easier than standard Aida Cloth. You might also want to set the stitching with heat as well as use a lightweight stabilizer on the back of the work to keep the lines looking great. Your single lines became wavy because the base fabric is stretchy, so when the Aida cloth was removed there was no structure to hold them in place.

@RuebenOtero 3 года назад
That's what I thought with the lightweight stabilizer too! The stretch fabric just needs a little bit of help to keep the design

Looks great! Don't have any experience in pixel art or embroidery, so seeing your process and the end tips and improvements are really great! Definitely a project for after I finish my punch needling

Really clever idea to use standard cross-stitch fabric to support and then remove it! Much cheaper than using the grids that are designed for removal. One thing I would recommend in the future would be looking into using a sew-in interfacing as a backing fabric to the stretch knit of the hoodie. Cross stitch really works best on non-stretchy fabric, so having a backing that doesn't stretch will help hold you stitching in place and not distort with wear and washing.

Thanks I’ll try that, I think it did warp a fair bit once the grid was off, hopefully this helps

Cross sticther here! They have water soluble aida fabic! You can us that next time you try this! Also it might be easier to us a embroidery hoop since they can keep the fabic taunt, mameing it easier to work with. Good job and also you dropped this! 👑

ive been feeling art blocked and this helped! also, there's a water dissolving interface you can use called fabri-solvy (or something like that) to print your design, adhere it to the hoodie and then it vanishes in water! might be helpful in the future!

Woah that hoodie looks great! Next time you do cross-stitch embroidery on a stretchy fabric, try ironing a non-stretch interfacing patch on the incide (either before you do the embroidery or right after you finish it to), that will prevent your thin lines from warping while you will be pulling the canvas fibers out. Good luck on your future projects!!

It came out so nice! A suggestion for next time - try waste canvas. It's water soluble, so the strands are much easier to pull out.

Hey! 👋 Check out "waste canvas" next time you do something like this. It's much easier to remove than aida cloth! 👌

I really love cross stitch and I tried to do something like this before. From my experience, to help avoid the warping, using an embroidery hoop can help a little with that since it keeps all the layers of fabric taut. When I was removing the cross stitch fabric like you did I came across the same frustrations. This method of cross stitching through the cross stitch fabric onto other fabrics works best with smaller or simple designs. Through research I found that you can get water soluble cross stitch fabric. I think that would be effect for something like this but I am yet to try it myself. But cross-stitching on the cross stitching fabric then cutting it out and whipstitching sounds like a good idea too! I hope you give this another go in the future. Hope this was helpful. And also I love your work.

Great vid. As someone who cross stitches pixel art is yes there are other ways and methods to help Even free programs which gives you colours and charts. Id suggest DMing some ppl for tips and make sure practice is the best!!!

there is also water-soluble aida cloth that will wash away in the washer, leaving only the cross-stitch behind! i've seen people cross-stitch directly onto denim jackets using this method, highly recommend!

Good job! I would use a soluble stabilising canvas/cross stitch sheet, so you can just soak the finished piece to remove the canvas at the end.
@RuebenOtero
@RuebenOtero 3 года назад
As a sewist, looking at your technique and listening to the problems, I think if you used a lightweight stabilizer on the inside, it might stop the design on the from from warping, since the hoodie material is so stretchy by itself.

It helps to use an embroidery hoop to hold the fabric smoothly in place so that there's no warping at the end when you take out the aida :) this combined with using waste aida should solve the issues you had at the end

an idea i had if you were planning on doing this again, is to use a water soluable garment stabiliser for the base of your cross stitch. so that you dont need to tediously pick out the wefted cotton it just washes away under water.

You'll likely want to make sure to hoop your fabric so it stays nice and taut. For something like this you'll also probably want a stabilizer for the back to keep the stitches from warping. All stuff you can find on Amazon and makes life much easier!

:-O ooh, thank you for this tutorial, I've always had issues with cross-stitching and pixel stuff in general 😅 A word of warning though! I use that particular fabric to make embroidered patches, and it is /very/ hard to do the whip stitches for the borders and make it look nice because of how easily the fabric frays. Personally, I recommend folding the fabric to the back and glueing/stitching it in place before whip stitching. Otherwise, the stitches tend to look lumpy and uneven, and it's impossible to keep strands of the fabric from poking through. I hope this helps a bit!
