I thought I’d put this quick video together to show you a simple, and free, way to cull images on your Mac. Sure, folk use Photo Mechanic, Lightroom and Capture One, but there is a quick and free way to do this that’s already built right into the Mac’s finder.

Thanks for this information. I am totally new to photography and just got Affinity Photos v2. I've been looking for a way to cull my photos and just downloaded Narrative Select and found out it doesn't export to Affinity. I am definitely using this method to cull and will create shortcuts for tagging to make the process faster. Thank you again for sharing this tip. Cheers!! UPDATE! I just tried this and it worked great. Since I am more focused on the pictures that will go through to Affinity for editing, I re-arranged my colours to have Green (Sure to edit) as CTRL 1, Yellow (Maybe) as CTRL 2. I left Red as CTRL 3 but I most likely won't use it as I'll just not tag that images I am sure won't be edited. Thank you again!!!

I never used color tags on my mac. But what you showed is basically what I do in Capture One. Label photos with a color and afterwards decide what to do with what color. I like your suggestion and I'm gonna try this on my Mac as well. See how that works. Great tip! Thanks for sharing this! Dennis

Yes, in Capture One I used to do something similar, but I personally now find it easier to only import into Capture One the images that I'm actually going to process. But my shoots are generally quite simple - one model in a studio for one session. Happy to share things like this, even if only a few people get some small tip out of them.Cheers, Dennis.

Hi @@tecraven , I've tried your suggestion using tags and the Quick View in Finder on my Mac. And I confirm that this works very very good! And also very fast! Thank you again for sharing your great idea! The CTRL+ shortcut works very well. In my case, I had assigned CTRL+1 to the tag Red. I did however had to rearange (drag colors around with my mouse and making red the first in the row) my tag colors in "Favorite Tags" section on the Finder Settings (in Finder CMD+,) tab Tags. Many greetings, Dennis 🇳🇱

Is there a way to make a shortcut key to where it automatically highlights the photo or moves it to a different folder?

You can create a shortcut key to give a selected image a 'colour'. Use keyboard shortcuts to tag files quickly - select a file, then use Control-1 to Control-7 to add (or remove) your favourite tags. Control-0 (zero) removes all tags from a file. This saves having to right-click on an image and also saves time.
