My old coach used to tell me, that you could miss a jump shot four ways: left, right, short and long - with good shot mechanics shooting straight on the basket, you basicly eliminate 50% of the ways to miss (being left and right) a shot...repetitve practice like showen here, will get you more baskets - its simple (very simple) math...
@@romero_2332 Then you're still right on the money...it's just a matter of practice, and your shooting % will go up...Bonus: if you got a good offensive rebounder on your team, my experience is that he's gonna have a better chance cleaning up with an in-n-out...
Getting that consistent backspin is key.Achieving that consist of keeping your hands in place the entire shot, me personally I've learned shooting quicker helps with this. Allows me to shoot consistent no time for error, the slower I shoot the more my hands slide out of place and it becomes more of a "push" and less of a smooth "roll off the finger tip" shot. Keeping the wrist relaxed is the first step to the consistency
1. release the ball from ur middle and index fingers 2. 3 finger shooting into the air 3. 5 finger shooting into the air 4. jump heel -> toe land toe -> heel 5. balanced base
Since everyone's staying at home all the time, I practiced form shooting against a wall, visualizing the rim was there. I got more and more comfortable and developed what I thought was good form, even filmed myself several times and never looked so much better. I built a new sense of confidence that I was gonna put some serious work in with my new found form. When I finally got a chance to practice at the court (they just recently allowed basketball), it felt so fucking off when I took my 1st shot. I took more and made maybe 5 out of 30 and the 5 didn't even feel great. As I took more shots eventually I just seemed to revert to my old inconsistent shot where my right involuntarily flares to the right and my guide hand assisting it. I made more of them on my whatever form than I did with the form that I practiced. I tried to correct it numerous times by remembering and re-doing the form I practiced for months but it's almost like my body forgot about it the moment I took my 1st shot lol. I just can't figure it out and it's incredibly frustrating!
Thanks so much for this video! No matter how many times I did form shooting before, as soon as I added a jump to my shot it would always feel like I'm shooting differently everytime. I then realized that my balance was the problem and I was unconsciously compensating for my unbalanced base. Doing the balance drills really helped me become consistent with shooting!
I just found this and it really helps. However, I tend to flare my wrist to the right and use my guide had thumb to flick and it puts weird spin on it. I have really tried to correct it but my hand flaring to the right is super difficult to correct since it feels natural

@@laudedlonnie3278 I haven't tried that but recently actually I have been putting in a lot of hours in correcting it and I'm finally getting somewhere with it. Much more consistent shooting
@@adamh.5855 just stick with it bro as cliche as it sounds consistency is key. Work smart work hard and work consistently. None of them work without each other.
I’ve been an inconsistent shooter my whole life and I’ve just recently realized it’s because I fling it from my chest. It’s virtually impossible to make a fling shot consistently accurate.
Been looking at these videos for years. Great content! But at the end of the day basketball is all about what’s comfortable and best for you. Put in the work EVERYDAY and you’ll get results.
im looking forward to watch more of your drills and skills tutorial to improve my basket ball skills coach drew .,,im from philippines coach...thank you
Because you guys are overthink maybe too nervous or you just don’t do good real games cause you believe once you start to believe that you are good in real games that’s when you become better that’s what happened to me
Idk what it is. Sometimes my shot is crooked and I don't know why. I've greatly fixed my mechanics. I used to shoot with 2 hands now I shoot the right way. But Im struggling with the release I guess
I need help, last week I was shooting like a God, in game in practice and in the park, I couldn't miss a shot, I even made 8/10 threes in game. This week I don't know what happened but i can't make any shot, it's like I lost all my confidence and sometimes I don't even hit the rim or the ball goes too hard, and is so frustrating. Anyone, can explain what happened, and what can I do?
You were in the zone, you found something that works for you. Find something that unlocks your potential, and keep repeating that. You can find a rhythm outside the game as well, keep that.
No dude as long as ur form is "correct" then u need to focus on where the ball goes and how ur hand feels when u release and "fix" that. The number 1 thing u shouldn't lose is ur confidence u will fix ur shot if u shoot enough just dont overthink it
I’m usually a decent shooter but one day randomly I noticed that when I flick my wrist it’s like my wrist flicks sideways and I can’t rlly control it I could before but now it just flicks left randomly
Bro I grind every fucking day. One day I’m going off then the next couple days I’m going 1-12 or 1-9. It’s insane and I can’t seem to actually get better 😭
Yung Reaper same bro. we had a high school game a few weeks ago and i hit 9 straight threes. the last game i went 0-7. i scored 4 points from freethrows 😭
One thing to add for the hoopers in the comment section. If YOU get BORED with being consistent and shooting the same shot every single time, then YOU should just be happy with YOUR inconsistent shot. Also be GAME LIKE in your workouts. Don’t be working and not moving as you would in a game
When shooting, should I be focused on rotating the ball to the correct orientation where fingers are perpendicular to the seem of the ball even in game situations? Can you shed some light on finger and ball placement/orientation?
i never shoot in a stable position im like that small forward that alwas shoots drift shots and fades and idk last time i hooped i felt like my shots were by chance not skill
@@joshuamanimala1656 the problem I have is the my ball comes up the right side of my face and I shoot squared(not a tilt). say if I was shooting from the top of the key, would t the ball hit the right side of the back board every time if I was shooting straight?
It frustrates me how sometimes i can swish a deep three or a nice layup, then i cant make it for like the next 5 minutes , and also as soon as i enter a game its as if my form doesnt exist. Any help?
Practice more. I find that if you have good skills and good form, you will be confident in your shot. If you find that you can’t shoot or your “form doesn’t exist” that means you gotta practice practice and practice!
@@AmitKumar-gv8gn yeah I know it’s possible but dang bro I must be far off. How long do you think it takes to hit 6/10 Iv never been a shooter but I’m getting older. I can hit 10/10 sometimes and others it’s like 4/10. Then sometimes it’s nothing but front rim. I’ll be so mad.
my son plays shooting guard in his college team he is a shooter he only trained for about 3 years. He is good at shooting it is not that difficult just adjust your form and start from near the basket and the go behind the ark.
Shoud we palm or no palm when shooting? My coach suggested I start practicing fingertips only shooting to help increase my shooting speed and range. What are your thoughts on this?
✝️28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28-29 NIV)❤️
No, a push out crossover is a crossover where you push out the ball with control and simultaneously move forward the foot on the side of the hand you’re pushing out the ball. Once you do that you bring the ball back to the opposite direction (aka your back foot)
What can I do about elbow flare, my coach was complaining about it the other day even tho I was making the majority of my shots and made me change my form. Should I stick with the new form or stay with the form that worked for me
So basically last time I did adderall I swear to fucking god I turned into Steph curry I made every single shot and i made like 3 deep shots in a row and bare in mind I haven’t played basketball in like 5 months back then. So basically do adderall to be good
This is a lie guys steph curry does the almost the opposite of everything he jus explained the thumb roll, curry does, the feet tilted is what curry does, the arm drifting off to the side after you release your shot curry also does learn from a coach who knows what they are talking about he is good but is wrong on this specific vid have a nice day sir no hate
Not really bro Steph does those things, but only because that’s what he’s naturally learned to do. You shouldn’t teach people to do a thumb flick or teach people back mechanics just because a pro does them. Sorry but you’re somewhat wrong
IMO paying attention to the small details makes a big difference. Once you are focusing on all those small habits, your shot improves. But that also means if you lose focus and get lazy, your shot will go downhill.
Many elite nba shooters sweep their feet forward and naturally sway their shoulders back, especially from long range. This reduces tension in the shoulder leading to a smoother and more comfortable shot as opposed to jumping straight up and down.
@@AZ-rg3rf their feet move forwards in their jumpshot after they release the ball. Not too much to the point where there fading away but not too little to where they feel like they don’t have enough power or strength
Yeah they do sweep their feet in order to get more power but you can also see that they don't sweep a lot if their a lot closes so that means only do the sweep if you are further away because you might shoot the ball too strong
this guy has some good tips however not everything he says is true 1. "shoot the same every time" while having a set jump shot that is comfortable to you and you know will get you buckets is great however you will never have the same jumper every single time you shoot, its actually better to not shoot the same every single time because your not going for the same shot every time you play basketball, you will never see curry shoot the same every possession he has fundamentals that he follows but its his creativity with his shots that makes him the best shooter. 2. there is nothing wrong with a thumb flick the greatest shooters/scorers in the world have thumb flicks (curry, kyrie, and even klay) if using a thumb flick actually helps you and you score more efficiently with one there's no need to "fix" it other then that theres nothing wrong with what this guys saying good video.
