I just want to take a momen,t to tell you, that you did a great job on that dry pour. You followed all of the right steps. Jimbo and Lydia, at Cajun Country, would be proud of you. I do this myself so, I understand what you went through. And, I see other videos of folks trying to do this and they miss steps. You did not miss one and you got great results.. Congratulations on a perfect job.

Bravo Karyn Cady! I need to do this too but the preparation seems like the most difficult portion of the work, but I'll have to do that part as well... (Very perfect music too BTW.)

LMFAO this isn't a successful concrete pad! This is a major fail. See the crooked edge? See how discolored it is? It's going to fall apart. This is what happens when you half ass things. What a joke. 😂😂

Great job!... one question though. Why did you end up doing dry pour since you already had a great setup for wet pour?
@karyncady
@karyncady Год назад
I wanted to take my time with it. I actually finished laying out all the concrete and then watered it the next day! Plus I heard that the prep is the same regardless if it’s wet or dry anyway, no?

@TheHardRunner Год назад
What a lot of work, great job. But still easier than pre-mixing it I bet for one person. And so much cheaper than a truck coming out. But one question... do you know what may have caused some of the top, by the edges, to break off?
@karyncady
@karyncady Год назад
yes I think this way is easier for one person! oh they actually didn't really break off, I think it was more sloppiness on my part when I was forming it cuz I didn't screed it all the way to the edge. and when I noticed those spots were unfilled, I just tried filling it with mortar mix instead of concrete so I wouldn't have to screed as much cuz the mortar mix was a powder. but it obviously didn't work or got washed away when I was watering it all
@TheHardRunner
@TheHardRunner Год назад
@@karyncady OK, thanks. I've seen some other DIYers using mortar as a top portion to make the whole thing stronger, but still do more screeding. Oh and they also oil down the boards so they don't disturb the finished product. I want to build a 10x12 shed this fall and want to use the dry pour method. I wanna extend my patio first. thanks again.

hi! so at first I tried dragging my hand groover tool (link below) through the dry concrete but it would catch on the little rocks within and mess up so I just dragged it very very softly across to make a straight line and then went back over it, pressing it into the line like a stamp until I was done with the whole line. www.homedepot.com/p/Anvil-6-in-x-3-in-Hand-Groover-57502/300960473

@karyncady

I believe it was just under 48 80-pound bags of concrete for a 14’x4’x3 1/2’ rectangular slab, plus the curved section

@cobyceltic9736
@cobyceltic9736 Год назад
if your radius isnt a tight turn you can use pvc baseboard or lp siding ripped down. those will snap if you have a tight radius. if you need a crazy tight radius you can use tempered hardboard but it aint cheap.

Are you in colder temps is that why you did gravel and grid in the botttom
@karyncady
@karyncady Год назад
Exactly! Good observation. I am in Salt Lake City, very hot summers and very cold winters. That’s why I did the gravel. I did the wire mesh in the middle mostly to reinforce it because of the thickness

How long from start to finish?
@karyncady
@karyncady Год назад
Oh gawl, the first day was May 6. I took a few weeks to prep the space, taking my time. I think I did like 30-60 mins each day for a while. I “poured” the concrete May 21. Watered it the next day. Waited 72 hours just to be safe before concrete staining it but then it rained back to back for like a week so I finished May 31. Total of 25 days start to finish, going small steps at a time
@NewWave-zy6rt
@NewWave-zy6rt Год назад
What was the total cost?
@karyncady
@karyncady Год назад
About $500 total... includes 48 bags of concrete, 3 panels of wire mesh, 1 panel of hardboard (for curved section), and concrete stain. I got the gravel for free by picking it up from someone on Facebook marketplace near me

Dry pours are horrendous. They’re not as strong and crack easily. Look at all the edge chipping. No clue why peeps do this.
