For a first timer you really seen to have to process down. But I warn you, this is A very addictive hobby. Just proceed at your own risk. And about the windshield, look up bare metal hw, he has a vid to get rid of the fogging.

Thanks, You are right, it is quite addictive. I'm already catching myself looking at other old die-casts :)

Lots of people have fond memories of their first car. Hotwheels and Matchbox brought out all sorts of cars, but they rarely look like your car did. You can use this technique and many others to build the car of your memories, for very little money.

Hi Yuri. Sorry if I spell your name wrong, I can't hear you clearly when you say your name. I'm interested in restore and custom the diecast toy cars, scale 1/64 but am not sure where to get parts like wheels and tyres. Do you perhaps know where to get these in South Africa as I'm scared to use these online buys. I'm from the Vaal Triangle, so Johannesburg is not to far from me. Please let me know if you know where I can buy these type of parts. Also maybe if you know where to get 2nd hand toy cars as they are expensive like crazy or do you know where to buy them for good prices? Thanks, I enjoy your videos.

Might I suggest aircraft stripper or another aerosol paint remover. It goes much faster and thoroughly.
@samaker4

That sounds like a great plan, unfortunately I did not have any on hand.

Good job on the Saab. Very interesting that there are no clips for the axels and they seem easy to remove and reapply. So that sheet of metal? keeps them in place?
@samaker4
@samaker4 4 года назад
Yes. It is my understanding that each make has its own way of attaching the wheels/axles. This was the way this car was assembled

as somebody that does this for a hobby,it was hard to watch,i suggest spending $100USD and buy a decent airbrush kit,may i suggest before attempting to do this again watching "BaremetalHW" youtube channel
@samaker4
@samaker4 6 лет назад
Thanks, I'll think about it, but I do not do this for a hobby and have no need for a $100 airbrush :)
@chad3625
@chad3625 6 лет назад
lee armstrong yes and no. While I agree, if you don't need an airbrush and only occasionally restore a 1:64 car, don't get one. But if you get serious into modeling, whether matchbox or larger, an airbrush will give you far better control of your paint. Rattle cans are limited to the manufacturers mix ratio. And on smaller models such as this, you can lose a lot of details from the thickness of the paint. Just food for thought, it still looks very nice for a first time custom.

Looks good. You don't need an air brush. There are quality spray paints available meant for mural artists with various pressures and finishes. Low pressure matte finish spray cans and custom caps for the cans too can turn out really even and smooth.

You can sometimes restore fogged windows using rubbing compound, and a buffing wheel in a dremmel type tool, there are tutorials on youtube from a lot of Hotwheels restorers such as baremetalhw

For a beginner, you did very good, but coming from an experienced diecast modifier, you should use primer before the color paint, so it has less chance of chipping.

Very well done my friend. Midas sells P100 polishing compound and it's relatively cheap, I find that it doesn't leave that black residue after polishing. I also enjoy restoration of the old Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars. You should get a cheap basic HW and swap the wheels, will look even better. I look forward to seeing more restorations/customs.
