I was cutting with a cut off wheel and the results were horrible, that’s what brought me here. Thank you for the great info.

Wax does wonders for cutting aluminum. Any high tooth count carbide tipped blade will work. Buy a cheap candle and apply it to blade before cutting

Well, I had been wondering how I was going to cut my 0.25" x 3.5" x 3.5" aluminum angle. I needed the cut to be perfectly square. Went outside, set my Dewalt radial arm saw up and went to town. It took longer to set the saw up than make the cut. Cut it like butter and perfectly straight. Thanks for this video!

I tried cutting my aluminium tonight using a grinder with metal cutting blade like you showed in the beginning of your video. It does not cut straight and it is hard to get a perfect 45 degree angle. I thought about using my miter saw but was worried about metal to metal! I messed up one piece and have to buy one more. I will try it tomorrow so I can get a better result. Thanks for taking the time is making this video.

He didn't use a grinder in this video, he used a circular saw
@youcanfixityourself

@@lisaln3987 I was taking about the type of blade you would use on a grinder that’s all. I know he used a circular saw and I did afterwards which worked for me as compared to what I used originally.

You repeatedly said this is just a wood black with a "high tooth count." But you previously said it was the high tooth count (smaller teeth) that got clogged up on your other blades. So I thought "high" tooth count means more teeth = smaller teeth = finer cutting. Low tooth count means less teeth = bigger teeth = more spread out = ripping wood. You are more experienced than I am so you're confusing me. I'll have to watch again, maybe I missed something.

They have specific aluminum cutoff wheels, and they work great even if you dont add wax lubricant like tapmatic edge lube. But they last longer with edge lube.

FYI, to get rid of deposited aluminum, you can dip the blade in a solution of sodium hydroxide(lye). That dissolves the aluminum but does not affect steel. Paraffin wax applied to your blade in advance will minimize aluminum deposit. WD40 works alos, but not as well.

This creates allot of chips like from wood cutting so make sure to cover everything or put in temporary cardboard walls or something, that would prevent chips from flying allover. Also, do not go too hard, carbide tips of the saw can break off so take your time and give it few seconds of cooling between passes. If you are cutting car rims, those are thick in some places so go slow and careful as the cutting surface is not even and can cause blade to twist and bind breaking teeth. More smaller pieces VS fewer larger pieces is the way to go and safest way to do it.
@cra2cra226
@cra2cra226 2 года назад
Yeah, that doesn't look safe at all. Millions of tiny flecks of metal on every surface, including his clothes, hair, skin.

I think you should have set your blade up higher . Is there a reason why you didn't ?
@morganjr1978jr
@morganjr1978jr 2 года назад
Set the depth of your blade barely past the depth of the material being cut. This will disapate the heat away from the blade and the material being cut.
@seeshell8108

. Don't go to fast or get to hot on carbide teeth of blade ,,,Or silver solder holding them on will liquify. Creating flying bullets, and sharp ones at that.

The count is 40 on my blade, I simply forgot to mention it. I wanted to make the point that teeth count doesn't matter as long as it's a carbide tip blade and you cut slow.

Clogging up is caused by the aluminum melting around the teeth, so you should also cool it down with oil or red alcohol

@surgemedia2374
@surgemedia2374 5 лет назад
If you use a wood blade make sure it has carbide teeth, it will last longer and cut cleaner. Any blade will work but if the tooth count is low say 50 or lower you have to cut a little slower. The blade I am using is a high tooth count wood blade but a non ferrous is best, they are more expensive. You can use jig saw and reciprocating saw with the same basic concept of tooth count. Do not use Metal cutting blades the teeth are too close and the aluminum clogs the blades very quickly. Also try to not cut with carbide cut off wheels on an angle grinder they can bind and explode violently. Hope that helps. WEAR EYE AND EAR PROTECTION.
