Cutting Different Fruits with Different Equipment
Here's a guide on how to cut various fruits using different tools for optimal efficiency and presentation:
Knife:
Your most versatile tool. Choose a sharp knife for clean cuts and minimal fruit waste.
Fruits:
Apple:
Slices: Cut the apple in half vertically, then place the halves flat and slice horizontally into thin pieces.
Cores: Use an apple corer to remove the core from whole apples before slicing.
Banana:
Slices: Peel the banana and slice it into rounds horizontally.
Chunks: For chunky cuts, hold the peeled banana upright and slice downwards.
Mango: There are two main methods:
Hedgehog method: Cut off cheeks from the pit, score the flesh in a grid pattern without piercing the skin, then invert the skin to reveal "hedgehog" cubes.
Slicing method: Cut off cheeks from the pit, slice the flesh into long strips, then cube the strips.
