How to cut down a Robart Robostrut.

How do you know that you have the right spring tension? I have a Ziroli Stuka with your struts and I think I might need to lighten the spring tension.

What is the material of those struts? are they alluminium or steel?

Would you just cut the same amount off of the spring as you cut off of the housing?
