I just found your channel and noticed you don’t do very long videos. Do you ever do things from start to finish?

Most of these videos are chopped up for a couple reasons - it makes it easier for people to find the specific technique they are looking for and it makes it easier for linking on the Suzy Quilts blog and in our patterns. This video, for example, is one in a series of videos on making the Planetarium quilt pattern from start to finish. If get a Suzy Quilts PDF pattern, you will notice hyperlinks throughout the pattern with videos on many of the sections.

These are cutting instructions for the new Planetarium quilt pattern. You need the pattern for this to make sense 😉 Here’s a link - suzyquilts.com/shop/planetarium-download/

Hi Suzy, you've said on a different tutorial that you don't prewash cotton fabric but do you iron it before cutting? Do you use starch when you iron? I use a lot of starch bc it makes it easier to sew but it warps the fabric esp when cutting big pieces. Thank you.

Great question! I usually prewash fabric that’s cut larger than 1/2 yd. If I prewash, and the starch from the manufacturing process gets rinsed out, I try to pull it from the dryer while it’s still a little damp, then iron it with a little bit of starch (my starch is usually watered down so the fabric doesn’t get too stiff or weird). If I don’t prewash, I still iron, but don’t use starch. There is already enough starch on the fabric making it stiff from the manufacturing process.
