My Gear:
- I use the Dremel 3000 and the Dremel 225 flexible shaft. I strapped the shaft to an approximately 2 by 2cm wooden shaft, that I first carved, so the Dremel fit in neatly, no shaking. The stick is attached to the rig with a screw clamp, that allows for easy hight adjusting. Since I never use the 225 for anything else I leave it permanently attached to the shaft.
- I use the original Dremel Easy Clip Diamond cutting blade (I don't trust the super cheap 10-Packs from Amazon - I've cut about 20 bottles or more with just one of the Dremel blades and still got way to go, definitely worth the extra money I'd say)
- For polishing I use a specific glass polishing stone (also a Dremel product) and waterproof sandpaper from 180p to 600p, wet sanding works best.
- After the Sandpaper I go over it again with the white polishing thingy, no Idea how it's called and if it does anything, but I use it anyways...
- The Water system I use... well... in it's original purpose it is a medical device to "clean the bowels" if you take my meaning (yes, anal water infusion) works really well though because it has a valve to adjust water flow. You can easily improvise something similar with a plastic bottle and some silicone tubes I guess... Since it's winter here in Austria I used hot water so my hands don't freeze off.
- For the rig I used random pieces of scrap wood (as you saw I have a lot of them), for the latest version (as seen in movie) you need a base-board, a vertical column (that one should be thick), a platform and a high "irrigation mast". The connection between base and column should be very strong, don't risk breaking the thing while cutting with an extremely sharp blade!!
- For safety I use protection goggles, Earmuffs and most importantly an FFP3 filter mask - GLASS DUST IN YOUR LUNGS IS REALLY REALLY BAD!!! I generally don't use gloves, I don't think they would help against the blade and I feel safer when my hands can feel what they're touching... but you should find out what you prefer by yourself!
I've been developing my technique for over a year now, here's the two videos that helped me most:
- • Test III - Glasflasche... (that's the first rig I tried to imitate - in reallity i tried it quite a few times, but wasn't happy with the results, i didn't manage a straight line... still was very helpful!)
- • Simple and easy glass ... (this one made me realize that I needed a good waterflow)
I don't claim my way is the best, it's just what I came up with through trial and error - I invite everyone who want's to try to do their own experiments, feel free to put your suggestions and experiences in the comments :)
But MOST IMPORTANTLY please stay safe while doing this!! The diamond blade is hellishly dangerous and the Glass can cut as well, use protective gear and WATCH YOUR HANDS! And use safety gear!!
I take no responsibility for any mishaps that might occur to anyone who tries cutting glass themselves...

Awesome video! Thanks! You have imagination! I watched and tried a few methods of cutting glass and they were a failure. It turns out I was the only one with this chipped glasses. Thanks for your video! I appreciate it!

great teaching video. I finally got one effective bottle cutting device with items I already have and that's after buying at least three different devices.

Good on you for doing what you love doing and working to improve your methods. Thank you for pausing the music when you were talking. Your flexi-shaft was getting a bit wet there, can it also be mounted or held vertical with the blade at the bottom rather than the top to prevent water getting into the flexi-shaft?

The glass cutter and hot and cold water method did not work as well as on RU-vid. And for cutting antique pickling jars with higher lead content ... Not at all. Having the dermal fixed and spinning the bottle is working well for me as well.

Helpful vid, thanks for posting! At 3:10 you say, "when I am done cutting I polish with a Dremel and sandpaper". What types of bits did you use with the Dremel? Also, you and every other person say to use moderate pressure and to let the tool do the work, but no one says how much speed/RPMs to use...how many RPMs do you use?

How is the water dripping on the machine, which runs on electricity, and not blowing the fuse?

So the water won’t hurt the Dremel

No, since I am using the prolonged shaft it's not getting on the main body - although I do have to take care of how and where I place it so it doesn't get wet, sometimes I put an extra barrier like plastic sheets...
