Thank you very much! I just showed your video to my husband, who is installing glass tiles in our kitchen for the first time. Tip #1 was what he wasn't doing. Now he is.
Hold the tile up off the tray and hold it in both hands. This was briefly shown at the 3:57 mark in the video. Use the edge of the blade to grind away the inner part of the tile. Can be done using an angle grinder with a diamond blade, as well.
Used them all Replaced tile backsplash by putting tile over the existing tile which is easy. Problem was, I had 13 outlets! Had 3"x12" tile, every notch was in 2 inches...it was a nightmare trying not to crack the tile. Lucky for me I chose an agate tile so the cracks mostly blended in 😁👍
What you didn't show us is what I came here to see. How do you cut a U shape cutout in large format glass tile for outlet holes??? I finally developed a method that works great for me. Mark the U shape on the tile. Use a hand wheel scribe to scribe just the BOTTOM of the U. Then use the wet saw to cut each side of the U. Take the tile to a vise with a washcloth in the jaws and line up the bottom of the U to the edge of the vise, and snug the vise up. Grab the center piece to be removed with two channel locks and snap out the middle of the U. Then go back to the wet saw and round out the corners so it doesn't break during your install. Finally, don't use the levelers/clamps on the fragile extended piece of the cut tile. Just level them by hand.
You can buy an inexpensive 4-inch angle grinder at Harbor Freight and a 4-inch glass diamond blade to go with it. Or rent a saw and buy a glass blade to go with it.
How do you cut a rectangle for outlets with 10x18 glass tile? I scored the front and back with the wetsaw but when finishing the cuts very slowly it breaks
You might try drilling the 4 corners with a tile bit then cut in between the holes. That way the corners are rounded. Another way is to purchase a diamond hole drill bit that is 1 3/8 and drill two holes- one on top of the outlet and one at the bottom. Then trim the sides with a saw. A third option is you might try removing the outlet and installing the tile on the wall then cutting the box out the next day. Once in a while that will work too. Finally, a fourth option is to move the outlet to a better spot. It can be frustrating and sometimes the glass just won't cut correctly. Sometimes it's an impossible task.
@@DIYTileGuy Thanks! I drilled the 4 holes and then used a grinder with standard blade and did this while completely submerged and it worked. I've been setting tile for many years but never ran into this.
Glass tile is more expensive, so I'm paying more for a crummy looking edge on the install. Go figure. Yes we just had some pros come in and looked bad on the edges. Was installed herringbone that made things worst. Also why do you grout glass tile since it fits so tight? Its hard to get the grout even.
i came here in hopes of how to do notch cutting, especially on how to cut the tile resulting in a u-shape. from the looks of it you don't respond to your viewers
