New phones like the iPhone 5 are using the new nanoSIM standard. You can actually cut your microSIM or regular SIM into the nanoSIM card. You will need a razor blade, a straight edge, and some 180 grit or higher sand paper. This is a tutorial on how to do it. WOW it worked!!, i had the normal sized sim, so i had to cut away quite a bit of the copper contacts (with a nail clipper and used a nail file to sand) Awesome video!!

This video really helped me to understand what needed to be done so I rate it highly although I don't recommend using a blade. When I tried that technique the SIM kept moving so I used a sturdy sharp pair of scissors instead and simply cut the card as close as possible to the chip. I didn't need to sand it and it fitted fine. My carrier took a minute or two to stabilise once I inserted the SIM but it worked perfectly. Note that I'm from Australia and I was using a standard Optus SIM card. Cheers

I'm saving up for the zepto-sim in iPhone10 / iOS10! / Maps10 / new infra-red connector / 1mm thick / 10" screen (same width mind). Its going to be a beast I tell you. Thinking of starting a queue on Monday - bring along your cameras.

@xoLoveKiKi With ios 5 or higher,the phone does it itself,from 4.3.3 and below,you do have to set the apn on settings,general,network(or red in spanish),network data package(or something like that. Is good to know that the naano sim is just a regular sim but barely the gold chip

It does works, the two PINS that you cut (golden contacts) are unusable, they do nothing. What really should concern you is the center of the SIM.

I cut my iPhone 4 sim mate and it works fine in my iPhone 5. It doesn't have to be shaped the same, as long as you cut as close to the metal without cutting any of it and it fits in the sim holder it should work fine.

that's not laziness, it's called sticking to a design that is efficient and so far has worked pretty well for Apple. what's the big deal of making a considerably larger screen if it makes the device less comfortable? i kinda like that iphone 5 is only taller, so you won't have to get used to a new kind of size...

In Australia you can easily go and visit your local store (telstra, optus, whatever..) and they will give you the smaller sim for free (:

everybody know the iphone 5 is more longer and thinner and the front camera is on the top, the back is made of metal and have 5 icons rows! even my nephew 6 years old knows that.. only compare the models and you see it.

4" is still too small. 4.3" is the way to go, perfectly comfortable in the hand and easy to use one handed, great size for movie viewing/gaming/web browsing but still doesn't add much to the size of the device itself. And I get that the design has worked, but it IS laziness. Look at the Galaxy series of devices. They've all looked good but at the same time are very distinct.

Oh, I know the differences, trust me. It doesn't change the fact that the differences are too fucking small to notice at first glance. The iPhone 5 looks exactly the same as all other iPhones from the front. Sure, it's slightly stretched and the FFC is on top in the middle, but that isn't the first thing you see.

I actually dont recommend cutting microSIM to nanoSIM. The reason is that some old microSIMs are not supported with LTE and using that same card you used with your iPhone 4S with just make your 4G enabled iPhone 5 only work with 3G.

Not even remotely retarded. One could easily confuse an iPhone 5 and a 4S at first glance. However, look at a SGS vs an SGS2 vs an SGS3 and you will never be confused as to which one it is. Same goes for most companies' flagship branded devices, e.g. HTC's Desire range (they haven't released a new wave of One series devices so you can't really compare them).
