This is great. Circles are tough and frustrating. I think I'll get a hobby knife now. I'm making a large cardboard advent calendar for my daughter. The doors will be round, and the pockets containing the treats will be made from toilet paper tubes. I'm excited and glad I found some confidence for all the round cuts.

I am glad that I was able to help you, Alias:Nick! Circles can be a big challenge and having a hobby knife can be quite helpful for the tedious cuts. Here is a link to the ones that I use (they come with extra blades and a small ruler as well): amz.run/52pN If you are going to be cutting a tone of circles, I suggest looking into getting or building a circle cutting jig. I have never used one, but I think it could make it easier to cut a lot of the same size circles. Good luck with your daughter's advent calendar! - Eli Tennant

You can also lightly sand the edges of the cardboard to remove the burr. I've used a nail file (instead of a piece of sandpaper) to have more control over sanding the edges like this.
@MakerBrain

Ahh, that is a good idea💡! I am going to work on some ways to harden cardboard and I think that sanding will also be a big part of that. Stay inspired, - Eli B Tennant

So I'm using two 10 inch circles to make a base for centerpieces. I messed with a couple so far to make them look nice by lining the corrugated edges with vinyl but on the edges of the circle where the corrugated lines are parallel with the cut the vinyl doesn't look nice because there is gaps. I'm running out of time but considering filling with a paper paste, hot glue, Elmer's glue. I wonder if you have solved this problem before.

Masking tape or painter's tape on the back might prevent or reduce the bur.

You talked about how this method leaves a burr on the back side of the cardboard. Perhaps if you put tape on the back side before you cut, you would get a cleaner cut on the backside.

Thanks for the comment, Heather. Tape might help with the burr, but I have never actually tried it so I can't be sure. Perhaps I will make a video on it in the future. Best regards, - Eli Tennant

How to cut a cardboard hexagonal
@MakerBrain
@MakerBrain Год назад
Hi there, First I would draw or trace a perfect hexagon onto the cardboard. You could make a paper template (here is a video on how to make a hexagon out of paper: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TqfimwQt1lU.html) or simply draw it out (here is a video on how to do that: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-50DF2ioy5gI.html) - then you could use your first cardboard hexagon as a template if you wanted to make more hexagons. once you have that done, I would recommend using a sharp knife to cut straight along each edge. You will make the cut extend past the corners of the hexagon to ensure that it overlaps cleanly with the other straight cuts that you make. After making those 6 straight cuts you can pop out your hexagon! Hope this helps, - Eli Tennant

How can we make cardboard solid as stone. Dont giveup
@MakerBrain
@MakerBrain 2 года назад
Thanks for commenting, AMENO GT! I have never tried to make cardboard harder/stronger than it naturally is but I know that some people soak it with solutions of wood glue and water (they might just paint or spray it on) and that makes the cardboard a lot stronger. I know that there are some other videos on RU-vid about this. This is an interesting topic and I will think about making a video on it at some point. Best regards, - Eli Tennant

Hi red2965! I don't totally understand your question, but the internal holes is almost the same as cutting circles. You will just need to be cairful not to accidentally cut into the cardboard that you want to keep. - Eli Tennant

@@MakerBrain trying to make a board for quarters so I can organize them yes I could buy one already cut but I want to do one for the 2009 State quarters I could I suppose cut all the way through them just paste a thin paper layer on one side so I could keep them veiwable and one spot I guess I'll have to machine a tool to make the holes because I don't want to spend forever and a day doing it.
