This little wave could do quite a few things including cut threads. In the video I show you the gears and the set up and demonstrate how to cut threads in a wooden dowel rod. **************************************************

This was a huge help! You did a great job breaking it down and making it seem way less intimidating than what I had in my mind.

Excellent idea to try on plastic and wood. Cheap for practicing. Thanks

Mine doesn't stop fast enough, sometimes it stops immediately sometimes it takes a moment. all the holes on threads for gibs have been stripped, re-drilled and tapped and the metal just keeps breaking apart, its like my mini lathe is made of powdered metal, these things should really be made in a better country. even a mini mill I got, the column had a casting defect, during the pour the core of the mold must have shifted because a part of the column was much thicker and another section, right at the dovetail, was knife thin.

Can it cut metric threads ?

Yes, for the gear number, just divide the teeth by two and then add 14

Could you, or anyone, tell me if this lathe can cut LH/reverse threads? Thank you

It can yes, you can switch the feed of the table independently of the rotation of the chuck.

sure: 8 TPI A20 B any C any D40 10 TPI A80 B any C any D50 11 TPI A80 B any C any D55 but that super coarse for a small 3/8 diam, then youd need to cut internal threads to match tho. experiment with whatever material you have! littlemachineshop.com/reference/change_gears.php

I suppose you probably could but probably be much easier or cheaper to just buy some unless you needed 1,000 or something

Is there an option for metric?
@shoesole1873

yes you can cut metric
@pauls5745
@pauls5745 3 года назад
well, in the US, mini lathes are sold with 16tpi lead screws, but you can get a 1.5mm pitch leadscrew from LittleMachineShop to do accurate metric threads there is a cheat tho, to do 1.0 threads for M6 or M8), with .087% error so it's not precision but you can do A 45, B 55, C 50, D 65

@@pauls5745 Yes that's exactly what I used. I had to thread a m24x1.5 and needed to changes the gears till I found the closest match. Have you tried the LMS mm leadscrew? I'm wondering what's quicker to change out, the leadscrew or the gears?
@pauls5745
@pauls5745 3 года назад
@@shoesole1873 oh i think about the metric sometimes bcs I do lots of stuff bicycle related and it's all in mm. changing gears out is quick, they are all right there as opposed to messing with the half nut and thread dial,, ugh haha

I am not an expert, but firtst you need to make a "discharge" slot so that you stop always at the same point. Regards.

First off, Thanks.. Documenting is a good thing to do.. However, instead of talking about what you “WOULD DO/SHOULD DO” ?..I mean Sheesh, you are making a Video on thread cutting after all.. I not trying to be rude but Why not just “Do it right”..(next time) 👍😉

It's much easier just putting a dye in the tailstock, and also why the hell use wood, overall a very poor and disappointing demonstration
@pauls5745
@pauls5745 3 года назад
sometimes you can't always use the tailstock, and why buy a die if you'll only thread only 1 or 2x. also most dies are for certain diam, so there's that. ex. what if I wanted internal threads on say 2" hollow stock? give the guy a break. im guessing he didn't have any scrap around. there's a lot of thread cutting vids out there, ThisOldTony, MrPete222, etc
@oldbloke135
@oldbloke135 3 года назад
It's a demonstration of thread cutting, not screw making. Quite often you want to thread parts that are nowhere near any standard diameter. And using wood to practice on is an excellent idea for beginners scared of wrecking their new toy.
@inactive67

Why not learn to use the tool, why buy when you can build and why they hell waste material when you do have too. Overall I have to say this was a very poor and disappointing comment.
