I'm about to set up my first saltwater tank and I think I will try your way. Thank you for making this video. And I wouldn't worry about any backlash. I've been on the freshwater side for a while, and there too are people so stuck their traditional ways, that not only will they not ackgnowledge that time, knowledge and technology moved on, and so did the methots, they will actively try to chastise anyone using modern methods. Don't pay any attention. Do what you love. Your tank, your way, your rules!

Awesome Ross. I’ve always had a view you can’t break the rules of physics and nature. The golden rule has always been once the nitrogen cycle has completed its safe to add fish. Your test results absolutely prove this. I’m downgrading soon and will definitely be using Colony.

Good video. Colony does what is says on the bottle. I haven't read of any negative stories regarding Colony. Used to watch a TV show that used it all the time (Tanked). Hopefully the Damsels work out and they behave.

Dr Tims or ATM colony will work fine. What people don’t understand is that the bacteria takes time to increase and will slowly increase based on the amount it can handle, if you throw in 10 tangs in straight away it will produce more ammonia that the bacteria can handle in that short time. That’s why you start slowly with 1 or 2 fish to give time for the bacteria to adjust to the needs, then you add fishes in slowly…
@BeardedReef
@BeardedReef 2 года назад
Yeah thats exactly it mate, these things take time, fingers crossed it turns out to be ok, thays why I haven't stocked it with lots to start with

Used ATM colony on all the tanks ive set up never had any complications. As long as you test daily and follow the instructions its a perfectly safe way to cycle a tank in a few days

Hey Man, I know this video is over a year old now but I am looking into starting my first tank (60l) will only house a couples clowns i think to see how i get on, but my question is, from this video can you rememeber if you used dry or live rock? Cheers bud

Hello mate, I used dry rock 👍
@tylerjaax4917

If you keep the damsels, some really nice fish to keep with them since they can be a bit aggressive and complement colors would be a hawkfish (flame or Longnose), elongate or orchid dottyback, and maybe a galaxy or Spotcinctus Clarki clown.
@BeardedReef

I wish would have used my MB 7 fish cycle method. I keep doing water changes after using dr tims and the next day it back at 4ppm! Its been 10 days or so! Now i dont know how I am every going to add fish with it so high! I am in a big hurry to get this cycled because Ihave to many corals coming in and I need to move some over to frag tank I am trying to cycle. I think the rock that I added a day or two later without curing is leaching ammonia! I cured the rubble and small rock because it was used but the other wasnt! Any advice. i dont think Usa carries this brand! Did you bleach cure your rock?

Love what your doing videos are great and your Scots what a bonus, One year next month since I started reefing. I decided to try Colony sadly it didn’t work for me, l lost my two baby clowns within three hours of putting them in tank I almost gave up felt so bad, I followed the instructions not sure what went wrong, maybe me and lack of experience.

@Liz-gp9th

To be honest I didn’t test that day after I lost them I was to gutted, I left the tank alone it took a further almost 6 weeks before I felt it was cycled, I don’t want to knock this product as it clearly works for a lot of people.

Hi, very interesting and revealing video for sure. One question: what happen with the damsels?, at the last part of the video cant see them ... did they die?, honestly I' m worry to add fishes so fast, and wonder how the fish pass all this process. Thanks'
@huk7
@huk7 2 года назад
Good video Ross, a little worrying how your Damsels will take to newcomers into the tank, but time will tell I guess. As for is it the right or wrong way and others opinions, as has been proven many times in this hobby, there is more than one way to skin a cat……. Good luck with it fella and look forward to the updates.
@BeardedReef

Hello Howard, thank you, yeah it is a little risky but as you say time will tell 🤞 there are many ways to "cycle" a tank but this one seems to be working well so I can't complain so far

I put in atm colony and waited 15-20mins then added my clowns, after an hour i came back to see them struggling so did a test and my ammonia was reading 1ppm, 1 of the clowns was on its side so i decided to take them both out as i was worried they would die! What did i do wrong?

Its not an easy one to answer as could be lots of reasons, maybe just the fact that you added them so quickly? I'm not sure, mines were perfectly OK
