Hi 👋 thank you for your question. It can be a very controversial topic clipping a double coated breed. Before I clip a double coat breed, I always have a consult with your clients owner to discuss the pros and cons and the dogs environment and why they would like to clip their dog and then let the owner make the decision themselves. And that includes the sanitary areas, your client may be older and is having trouble going to the toilet and keeping clean and their owner finds it easier when the sanitary area short , to keep their dog clean.( you might be able to scissor those areas instead of clipping) But I alway discuss with the owner before the groom what they would like done, and I do not skip any details. You could try having a check list when you are discussing the grooming needs of your client, this will help you to remember what you need to discuss 💕 I hope this helps you 🐩

Hello Eric, Thank you for your question. Yes, it can hurt and be very uncomfortable for dogs if you cut into the quick. In my experience some Pugs do not like getting their nails trimmed, I would recommend using a file or a gentle grinder on your pugs nails and just do small amounts at a time. It will be hard at first, but try and stick with it and I would do it every 2nd day and begin with one nail, maybe try the back first. Please let me know how you go💕

@@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials Oh ok, thank you much for your reply. We do have a power nail grinder, but we don't use it because it takes longer to trim each nail it makes it that much harder to hold her down. It's all you can do to hold her somewhat still. We might just need a newer grinder because when you put a decent amount of pressure on the nail it stops the sandpaper while the center is still running. So we can only put light pressure on it for it to work therefore taking more time to do. That is a good idea to just trim one a day so it will get her more used to it. It's funny the second I ask my bf if he wants to cut her nails she runs as fast as she can under the bed to hide lol. She does the same if we don't say anything and just bring the clippers out she is outta there. 😂. I would like to come up with a harness contraption that would hold her still to cut them.

Let a vet do this it does hurt the pug

@@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials it’s not his favorite thing he squirms for a the first two minutes and tries to bite the desheder brush but he usually calms down if I talk to him he also likes to try and get his hairballs that come off lol
