I am on my 2nd month solo and they gave me a 1700mile load to las vegas from indiana, went on i-70 through denver and went on the most amazing drive I have ever been on. Through those rockies and the utah landscape to i-15, and reset in grand junction and went to the Colorado National Monument with a budget car rental, what incredible beauty and what a joy. 1300 net that week too.

Normally I feel fine going through the surrounding states. But the further east I go, the more anxiety I get. It is nice that I have an uncle and family friends doing what I’m doing.

It's my third night in my truck as a solo driver for swift and I'm suffering from shivers and anxiousness. I'm pushing hard. Delivered my first load successfully but ran into alot of issues today bc swift gave me a truck with expired permits and ifta and no chains.

What ever happened to the term be careful? I never heard anyone say be safe out there until the 21st century. It makes no sense. How can you be safe if you have a dangerous job? Everyone copies everyone else with these terms. "It is what it is." "I know that's right." "Unfortunately" "Be safe out there". "Have a good day" even though it's ending. "Common sense is not common anymore" coming from people who have none. There are many others but can't think of them right now.

Thanks for the information Wayne! I am currently in CDL training school right now. Driving ten speed Manuel stick shifts. They don’t have any automatic transmission semis. I like all of my instructors, but there are times that they forget that I only have three weeks of driving experience. One instructor yelled at me for not knowing that I was in a 35 mph. I thought that I was in a 40 mph zone. I am not 100% sure that I was wrong. I saw the 35 speed limit sign up ahead, but you’re not in the new speed zone, until you pass the sign. I am thinking to myself, “dude I recently started driving in this area. There is like several different speed zone areas in a ten mile radius. I don’t take this route when I drive to class.” Oh well. I will get through this training.

Yeah a lot of idiot truck driving instructors do not know how to communicate with people. They don’t need to yell at students and they need to have patience.

Thanks for the positive feedback on the first year! I’ve been in a class B local position for about 3 years now and I really want to try the big rigs out for more money and I’ve always wanted to drive one. Going OTR just seems like the most common way to get your career started but I’m nervous because it will be a big shift in lifestyle for me. Some days I feel really motivated to go and get my class A but then others I feel like I psych myself out of it.

Hey man thanks for the words of encouragement! I just went solo after two weeks with a mentor (100 hours, 5000 miles). My nerves still feel wrecked, even just bobtailing. It feels like everybody is watching and some screw up or crash is just waiting to happen 😬

I’m in the same situation and it’s driving me crazy. Sometimes I don’t know which end is up! I’ve had to ask for help at most stops and seen a couple truckers bitch each other out over small mistakes. I’m ready to hang it up.

I'm only a month in. And the first place they sent me is west and nw. I do not feel equipped. I had no training in mountain grades especially not in snow. I tried to fina a company that would keep me east in flatter or less snow my first year. I don't know if I can do this..... I love it and I want to but I'm seriously worried about safety because of conditions and zero experience.

Anxiety leveled out but it's still there a lot. When most are sleeping though and I have the hours and schedule to do so, I will start and drive all night. My anxiety arises quickly when more 4 wheelers come out around 4:00. Then truckers come out only when the sun rises because they're afraid of the dark which makes me laugh and they also have the hours and schedule to start early in the morning. If I still see trucks parked when the sun is up, I drive around and blow my air horn as I arrive at the truck stop. Then I knock on each door to tell them that the sun is up so you can leave now. Seriously though, I always struggled with anxiety and it's because I feel it when more people are around which is why I hate people. People are loud and won't shut the hell up. It gives me anxiety because people are up to no good. So keep a low profile and don't talk to anyone. Ask for help only with people who are professional and don't look like a bum if you really need it. Also, I don't understand why people may be nice but on the road everyone has a totally different personality and mentality while on each others asses. Four wheelers also need to understand that trucks are governed. I can't be behind a 65mph governed truck for a long time while mine is governed at 68mph. It takes me a while to pass but I usually wait until I don't see any four wheelers or super truckers who think very harshly of major carrier drivers. I can feel the hatred. When hate is near, I can feel it. Every time a super trucker passes me, I can feel the negativity and judgement because I drive for Crete as an O/O driving at 68mph. Are you a super trucker who is mean to other truckers on the road but nice off the road giving people advice?
