Thank you for breathing positive energy into the ancient expression "Inbide calcote" through the creation of both this fascinating and inspirational "participatory sculpture", as well as for your eloquent, poetic, illustrative descriptive video. ☮

This is such a beautiful and inspiring video! Thank you so much Athar for sharing these incredible insights. I really appreciate your approach to sculpture as an interactive and participatory process, allowing the viewer to more intimately engage with the work. As a young boy I remember being so entranced by a sculpture I once saw in a museum that I had to touch it. My teacher yelled at me and I felt shame in front of my peers for many years after that. I'm so glad your approach is so much more humble and allowing of the participation of the viewer.

I love the idea that the audience walking across the work actually completes the sculpture. Interaction with the artwork makes for a more intimate and meaningful experience.

Yet another erudite dissection of a pervasive evil in this vale of tears. A worthy supplement to the theme of sculpture & violence. Athar, you are educating us in lifetime virtues. No greater good hath thine lofty arts ambition. thank you for these revelations…. Truly inspired.

Just remembered, recently an Iranian student of mine asked me why would Armenians bury the deceased monks in the yard and force people to walk over the stones before entering the church. I told her that was the way of them to keep serving people even when they are gone.

As always, so thought provoking. I think an interesting exhibition would be to place the stone in front of a mirror. The person standing on the stone sees themself in the mirror and is reminded not to let envy into their heart.

I had to look at the inscription you created a few times and realised something I hadn't before. The idea of the letter 'o' being encapsulated by the the letter C, I thought to be construed as an act of containment such as envy perhaps. Maybe I'm just over-analyzing. Perhaps this was intentional on your part, nevertheless, visually it works well I'd say. Thanks for presenting such an interesting concept!

Thanks for looking with such a keen eye! Honestly, it had nothing to do with the concept of envy, Encapsulating and binding letters in various ways has always been done, first of all to make the words fit within the given space but also for simple aesthetic reason. Have a look at Medieval and Renaissance inscriptions and you will se plenty of these playful combinations.

Well done in stepping on all envy Athar, and thank you for the reminder to tread on the envy from others as well as any that creep into self - my father used to say it is jealousy/envy that ruins the world …. In which case you ought to carve a million of those Inbide Calcote stones and spread ‘em wide and far! I shall seek out your wisdom underfoot on my next travels abroad. Love and well carved light to you and all we followers. 🐙🐬 And thank you for the Akala link, quite engaging.

I don’t know much about the stone besides what you said, perhaps the stone was made to be like a joke? Like saying “leave your envy behind before stepping into my glorious house” like don’t be so jel 😂🤷🏻‍♂️

Athar Jaber however I could be completely wrong 😂, I tend to look at situations more from a human perspective and less from a academic or historian perspective, but hey, in regards to the topic of violence towards sculptures, (which is a very relevant topic today in the uk with what is happening) can you find time to watch this video on RU-vid. It’s a lecture from akala at Oxford, he briefly discusses violence towards statutes/sculptures in ancient Egypt. It’s defiantly a good watch and will make you look at things different if your open minded to this stuff
