I'll be honest, even with all the best strategies, there will be times in your practice when your client count on a given week is a little lower than what's ideal.
Clients cancel or get sick, or several clients improve and terminate at the same time. Or you know, a pandemic happens and things shift around. If you work with kids or parents of young kids then school breaks often impact how many folks you see that week.
So how do you deal with these lulls without feeling like your practice is going under? In this video, I'll offer a few tools to help you deal with these slow periods so you don't have to freak out or feel like you're losing money.

Oh when I first started private practice, I get anxiety about this especially when people reschedule, terminate, or cancel all on the same week. Even though I'm doing it part time and I have a day job, it still feels like my private practice is going to crash. And then about 1.5-2 weeks later, I get new inquiries or people come back. I had to get into the business mindset that things fluctuate. I like those tips. That's what I do too. Leave myself some space to book a bit more clients in some weeks knowing that some are ready to terminate or some people may reschedule. Some weeks are tough when they all show up, but again things change week by week. Thanks for sharing!

This is what I learned in my first year of private practice. I feel so much better now that I have other services and offerings to balance out the lulls.💛

Hey you should do a video on how to choose a name for your private practice. I'm in the process now and not really sure what the ethical or legal restrains are or how to find out what they are.

Hey Marie, I just wanted to say that I just found your channel and I am VERY glad I did! I haven't watched many videos, but trust me, I will. I also had a question and was wondering if you might be able to give some insight. I'm about to graduate with my masters in social work and begin working as a pre-licensed therapist, but therapists in my area get paid very little. I love RU-vid and have been thinking about starting a RU-vid channel for almost a year. I also love business although I have no formal training in it. However, I feel I have learned quite a bit from RU-vid. What do you think of a pre-licensed therapist creating a RU-vid channel? Thanks for your videos, I'm excited to watch and learn!

Any agency therapist doing fee split or PRN would also feel this. I've seen so many therapists, particularly younger newer therapists, get "grass is greener syndrome" when these lulls happen. Just accepting that these happen is a strategy itself.

Could you do a video on how to get scholarships for grad students or how to pay off debt after a PsyD or clinical psych PhD ?

I would love to hear how you convince client leads that want to bill insurance to do private pay.

The word "lull" sounds like what happens if you pronounce LOL as if it's a word. Just, y'know, putting that out there. ;)
