In this video we will be talking about how to deal with suffering in life from the philosophy of the Buddha. Gautama Buddha was a philosopher, a spiritual leader and is credited as the founder of Buddhism.
The teachings of Buddha revolve around Duhkha, which means suffering, and the end of Duhkha, which is regarded as the state of Nirvana. The philosophy’s most essential teaching includes the Three Marks of Existence, which are as follows:
01. Annica which means that life is in a constant flux, we have already made a video on this, the link for this is in the description.
02. Duhkha which means that life is painful and causes suffering, and
03. Anatta which means that the self is always changing
After the Buddha gained enlightenment, he traveled to Sarnath in the present-day district of Varanasi, where he met with five monks, he previously practiced with and gave his first sermon, the four noble truths. These four Noble Truths are the foundational tenets of Buddhism, which spark awareness of suffering as the nature of existence, its cause, and how to live without it. In this video we are going to talk about dukha, the second mark of existence, to better understand the suffering that we all go through and how we can use these 4 noble truths to deal with suffering in our modern day life.
The four noble truths are as follows -
01. The truth of Dukha
02. The truth of Samudaya
03. The Truth of Nirodha
04. The truth of Magga
I hope you enjoyed watching the video and hope these lessons from Buddha will help you in dealing with changes in your life.
The Buddha was a philosopher, meditator, spiritual teacher, and religious leader who is credited as the founder of Buddhism. He was born as Siddhartha Gautama in India in 566 BC into an aristocratic family and when he was twenty-nine years old, he left the comforts of his home to seek the meaning of the suffering he saw around him. After six years of arduous yogic training, he abandoned the way of self-mortification and instead sat in mindful meditation beneath a bodhi tree. On the full moon of May, with the rising of the morning star, Siddhartha Gautama became the Buddha, the awakened one. The Buddha wandered the plains of northeastern India for 45 years more, teaching the path or Dharma he had realized in that moment. Around him developed a community of people, drawn from every tribe and caste, devoted to practicing this path. Nowadays, he is worshiped by most Buddhist schools as the enlightened one who has escaped the cycle of birth and rebirth, transcending Karma. Their main teachings focus on their insight into duhkha meaning “suffering” and into Nirvana, which means the end of suffering.

The Buddha says “What is the Noble Truth of Suffering? Birth is suffering, aging is suffering, sickness is suffering, dissociation from a loved is suffering, not to get what one wants is suffering: in short the five categories affected by clinging are suffering”. I am Christian I do not believe in church. But feel if Buddha understood ego he would just say ego. My mindset is i love me and love everyone else. People will be people it is not up to me forgive them just love them. We are all "sinners" but no sin is greater than another. All we can do is give love and help someone understand they are not alone. We all deserve to be loved even if its just from ourselves.

this " future" you are talking about is just a form of anxiety in your mind. It`s time for you to " let go" of anxiety and to live your life " as it is". Your " self image" is the illusion that holds you back!. Keep things simple. And meditate without " perfectionism". That is you are not perfect, and the world is not perfect. Face this as a fact. HIT ME "HIT ME". This quote by Joker actor Heath Ledger from "The Dark Knight" made a huge impression on me and inspired me to create a philosophy. It has helped me to make peace with all my issues of suffering. Through practices of all kinds. I have learned to love my suffering and ultimately my life. The hits of suffering are a fact of life and the key to enlightenment. A hit from suffering affects you internally in the mental, in the psychic, or superficially in the body. All beings and all things have this powerful side to them. "HIT ME" always works. Because you are never disappointed with this expectation. Because something almost always hits you. Whether it's unwanted emotions or thoughts. And even if you don't want to be hit by something, it still hits you. So it still works as an expectation. It even works when positive things hit you. Like soft raindrops or a soap bubble. Just like joyful or happy emotions and or thoughts. Hit me always, all the way, in every way, anyway. "Anyway", because sometimes or often I don't want to be hit and it hits me anyway. Then it happens anyway. Or I say although I don't want to be hit, I still want to be hit in order to gain strength. When you commit to such an idea, you unlock the path to enlightenment. It is therefore a good reason to follow the path of loving our suffering. As it brings great benefits to oneself. From ourselves not wanting to be hit and not wanting to take the suffering into ourselves, to wanting to be hit and wanting to take the suffering into ourselves. It always works, no matter in what form we are hit. Once you have developed a certain level of this practice, you master suffering and become truly enlightened in love for suffering. And for conflict, but also for what hits us in general, I quote Bruce Lee, from the movie "Enter The Dragon": "I do not hit. It hits all by itself."

This is so comforting. I came from a fundamentalist christian background, emphasising that we DESERVED suffering, because of someone eating a fruit. This never made sense to me, but to me accepting suffering and the fact that it's not my fault, makes me better understand life and myself.

Good video, but you get some important things wrong: "suffering" is a poor translation of "dukkha". Dukkha is more like unsatisfactoriness. Suffering implies that there is only dukkha found in painful things, but the Suttas state that there is dukkha in pleasurable things as well by way of their impermanence. Also, "tanha" (thirst, craving) is NOT desire. Desires are fine. You have to have a desire to alleviate the dukkha of yourself and others, to reach nibbana. Craving or clinging is an unhealthy or pathological attachment to things.

I've personally known some Buddhists for many, many years, one on a very intimate level, raised in Asia as a Buddhist and I've been to a Vietnamese Temple many times. The two things I learned and appreciate about Buddhism is to be present and the practice of mediation. The negatives are from my observations they live their lives in the middle ground, somewhat detached, seeking to avoid suffering and pain at all costs because that was Buddha's big thing, brought on by his shock when he saw the real world. Buddhists seek to avoid suffering but in the end they avoid much joy in their lives because they run from suffering and pain, thinking of it as a negative instead of a positive as that can lead to real growth and understanding.
@urban_phantom7750
@urban_phantom7750 6 месяцев назад
Buddhists typically don't run from suffering; they learn to adapt to the fact that nothing lasts forever, and that being attached to that which is impermanent is a recipe for being held captive by negative feelings of dissatisfaction and angst. Buddhists are not detached from feelings of joy. They embrace temperance and self control, and employ discipline as a method of coping with unstable environments and other people. It's easy to misunderstand their approach due to our own preconceptions about life in general, and the fact that almost everyone tends to believe they know better. Buddhists seek to eliminate suffering by limiting their desire and ambition, not out of fear, but through recognition that an unbridled ego never feels truly satisfied, because for those who allow greed and desire to control their thoughts and actions, there is no such thing as "enough". Anyone who claims to have figured out the truth is already misguided. Those who know the "way" do not tell others what to think or believe, but rather let them learn through self discovery. Only the ignorant speak are willing to speak with authority about something that isn't in keeping with the true principles of the Dow.

Very educative. I do research on how Buddhism disappeared in Bihar. I realized it never disappeared from Bihar. Buddhists simply failed to research Indian Buddhism. They looked at Buddhism through the sphere of their own cultures searching for only the Buddha. Buddha had a myriad of names in different villages according to his teachings there. Example. His favorite teaching was 'Lust and desire causes pain. Remove lust and desire, and pain is removed'. Translated into Bihari (where the Buddha story took place) it is DHUKH HARAN meaning to remove dukha. Three dozen villages pray to DUKH HARAN Baba. Its clear that DUKH HARAN Baba is none other than the Buddha. Problem is Buddhists are searching only for the Buddha. In the real Vaishali the Buddha begged for alms. The locals there pray to 'BHIKHAINI' Baba (Beggar Baba). Bhikhaini was mispronounced by Buddhists as Bhikshu. Who is BHIKHAINI Baba. The Buddha no doubt. But people are searching for a man called Buddha. In the real Vaishali, in Beluha the Buddha suffered a sickness and felt he had grown old. The locals pray to 'BURHA' Baba (Old Baba). Who is BURHA Baba. The Buddha no doubt. In the real Vaishali the Lichavies pressurized Buddha not to die. They trailed him to Bandagawan pressurizing him not to die. To put pressure in Hindi is DABESHWAR. Three dozen villages around the stupa where Buddha gave the Lichavies his patra, the villagers pray to Baba 'DABESHWAR NATH' meaning the man who won the pressurizing game. It was the the Buddha no doubt as he gave the Lichavies his patra and succeded in sending them back. But Buddhists are searching for the Buddha. Forgive me for commenting out of the topic. I just wanted to impart this information to you.

The Buddha had the right idea about life . He acknowledge the idea that the world was Samsara a world in which suffering is always there . And no matter how perfect we try to be . There will be imperfection.,desire and suffering . But, he taught mindful living , and the universal compassion and acception. You are what you are . These are tools to live a full life and a true life , as you are . With all you faults .

The irony, is that many people come to buddhism to find perfection. When in reality the message of Buddhism is that life is imperfect. And that there will alway`s be problems in the wold, in our family, at work. And so on. And that accepting this will make life more easy to bear. Human ignorance, narcissism, greed creates most of our problems. And then our reactions to these problems creates even more problems and suffering ( the ignorance of our own ignorance creates compounded problems)

As a Thai person, we have learnt four Noble Truths since we were children. Not as detailed as in this video, but only four words "ทุกข์ สมุทัย นิโรธ มรรค". Thais have been aware of suffering since they were children. The first time someone in the family died, the first time your heart was broken ... What is this feeling? How does it happen? How to escape from this feeling of suffering? We do all of this automatically. It is the basis of Buddhism in Thailand.

Yes it will help you with your own effort. Not through a mythical sky daddy up in the sky. Mindfulness helped me a lot when I was going though trauma when I left Christianity, If you have read the Bible it teaches hell fire and eternal damnation to non believers including Buddhists, Hindus, Taoist and whoever is not a believer yes a BELIEVER [no matter what, you have to obey and believe] in Jesus. Mindfulness is a secular stripped down version of Satipattana Sutta. Through mindfulness I found Buddha Dhamma, and helps me in my day to day life, right here right now. Buddhism helped me enormously during COVID time. It brought me comfort, and less fear and at the same time show love, compassion, kindness and mercy to less privileged whey God was nowhere to be seen to help sick and dying people. Buddhism NEVER wish anyone to believe or put you in eternal hellfire. Now I am free from fear and Jesus bondage. I do not call myself a Buddhist follow Buddha Dhamma by learning it. May all sentient beings be happy and safe Metta to you.

I am quoting a story told by Alan Watts. One day the Buddha said to his followers, " you suffer, because you desire". So the followers left and proceeded to shun desire, to denounce desire, to gid ride of any desire. When the followers returned to the Buddha, he say's, " but your desiring not to desire"! Yikes! Now they want to know how to get rid of that:). This is the stage at which i find myself. How do you get ride of that:)

'Non-trivial' sufferings are due to uncontrollability to and lack of resources in our physical world. If Mindstream (a Buddhist's concept) does indeed go through rebirth cycles forever, then maybe in the NOT so far-fetched future after consciousness transfer is achieved by technologies, Mindstream can then be transferred out from the biological brain to artificial system ('non-trivial' sufferings can then be eliminated). There still have hope for everybodies (include animals), if rebirth cycles do exist. You will one-day be in that 'uploaded Paradise'. At this moment, just use religions as temporary pain-killers to alleviate sufferings in our physical world (religions are very effective in doing this job indeed, more than the so-called materialism/physicalism).
