How to Deal With Video Game Addiction

Apologies for the unstructured video. I hope my experience resonates with someone going through addiction.
The reality is broken and games offered a solution for me. A short-term fix but a solution that made me trapped. It was only once I became aware of the cycle and continued the relentless search to break free.
Whatever addiction or challenges you are coping within your current life, I feel for you. I don’t know which battle you’re going through but I’m sure it’s a tough one. I think about what our ancestors had to go through not knowing whether they were going to find food for survival. I know it's a bit extreme but it shows the context that our mind is very powerful and is capable of adapting.
I still have daily struggles but I’m fighting resistance and I know you can too only if you ignite back the desire and constantly fuel it. I had to identify my struggles and choose which path to fall towards. I’m sure I’ll lose many battles but hey, effort’s free. It’s never too late to realize that effort is free.
“The mass of men live lives of quiet desperation” - Thoreau
Relapses were the hardest part of overcoming the endless cycle. I know in a matter of days I can get the old me back as if nothing happened. I’m terrified of that version of me and I’m running away from him. I don’t have it figured out. I just conceal my pain a bit better than others.
Here are my three desires from the video exercise:
Impacting someone who was in an endless loop like me and lending a hand out to them to give them the tools to start their own journey.
Being compassionate and sticking to who I am. I want to be compassionate with others in order to better understand others and learn from them. I value authenticity and I must be willing to listen to others to better understand this world and give the world the best of me.
Financial freedom. Grants me more opportunities in life and free from the rat race. Money is god for those who don’t have it and merely just tools to those who have it. I desire the feeling of providing for my family and being independent.
In order to overcome addiction, question your roots and principles and avoid relapse with substitution and recognizing your behavior. Seek to understand yourself and your motives. Negative feedback along with many factors helped me. However I don’t there’s a one size fit all solution. Be willing to try out new things and try for yourself ^^

I constantly struggle through a youtube addiction from time to time. It feels like each day that I spend just watching youtube, it gets harder and harder to come out of it. Its not the easiest thing to come out of any kind of addiction, really. One thing that I know and live by is that nobody, exactly nobody can help you get out of it but you. You yourself only, can decide to do better, become a better version of yourself and prioritise your health and well being.

I used to see my friends playing video games, a lot. I was curious what is so fun abt it, bcz I didnt have one. Once I had my own income, I started to try it. Today I spent hours playing games to run from responsibilities, reality, and so on. Just now I am writing the dream version of myself to stop gaming addiction, wish me luck.

Me too Jin, me too. And for anyone else who struggles with addiction of any kind. Consider the word “refuge.” We take refuge in our addictions. For me, it was also virtual reality and honestly even food. It was a place I felt I could have more control and autonomy in my life. It is an understandable way to respond to the hardships of life. Whoever you are, please avoid judging yourself and forgive yourself for the mistakes or ways you sought comfort at the expense of your well-being. I’ve been there, Jin’s been there, we’ve all been there. Love how you said “the game of life” because everyday, that is exactly how I view life. And it helps me change my perspective on how to approach it. Much love Jin, thanks for sharing. And I’m proud of you!

Hi Jin. I quit video games about a month ago and I'm feeling a lot better. The thing that really got me to quit was knowing that I wanted to be great and that games were in the way of achieving that greatness. I am currently a high school junior, and I quit at the beginning of the year. Although I am glad that I quit when I did, I strongly regret wasting the first two years of my high school career. I know I'm smart. I know that I can do great things, but I also know that video games can and will get in the way of that. Thank you so much Jin for making this video and for making me feel less alone.

from a fellow internet addict: posted this as a reply comment to someone but i'll post it here to just in case it helps anyone: "honestly if i really had to say something from my experience over the past 5 years (just in case i can help u) i learned that the times that came closest to escaping this addiction were the times i quit cold turkey and then you had to substitute it w something else that you are actually are interested in. why that never worked for me is cause i would always try to "reward" myself after abstaining for sometime and also that there was nothing to substitute for me so i would eventually crawl back from boredom. even slowly decreasing doesnt work that well, after a while there'll be that one day ur tired and you'll be like just one time and then its downhill. when i say cold turkey what i mean isnt literally pull the cord cause realistically its impossible but (i dont know how this will sound but ill say it) like "deep clean" all ur digital space and then make up ur mind that this is it im not going back again (BUT dont say forever like be like im not gonna binge until e.g. i finish this semester w good grades, etc bc forever is too daunting and youll relapse) and then consume ONLY media abt e.g. studying (if that's your no. 1 priority) so you're still consuming something to feed the addiction but you'll get sick of it/reduce your time online. anyways long comment but this is what's currently working for me. dw we got this. there will be one day when we become normal sensible humans again."

I used to be addicted to league for many years til near past. At first i was fully enjoying but then years later i started to feel quilty since i was wasting my precious time on doing the same thing over and over which also made me an angry person during the games. I slowly limited my daily games and started putting more study hours instead. It took about two years to get over it fully but now i don't want to go back ever. 😊

I think we all are addicted to something, could be games, social media, fitness obsession, drugs, alcohol, shopping, working your life away, and so on, and when you think you overcome some addiction you're just shifting from one thing to another. Life tough and keeping a balance is key, I try to earn my time to play games, procrastinate by doing something that I know I should be doing, but we all our own struggles. Love your channel

When I was 20 years old I was addicted to league of legends. I played for 10-12 hours a day. I finally quit as soon as I recognized I wasn't enjoying the game. Angry for no reason. Mentally put me in a bad place. Still i slept around 3am playing league. I wasn't goal oriented or driven to do anything else. A video like this ended up in my recommended videos and I changed. I starting working, going back to school and writing down goals I wanted to achieve. Like i Jin I uninstalled at least 20 times wanting to get out of that rut. Super addictive games are dangerous. Everyone is capable of getting out 💪

My brother is 24 and he is still addicted to games. Because of his addiction n lack of motivation, he is still in college and this semester he dropped out of all the classes. I really wish he would change. He is old no 24!! He still acts like a child, comes to my room to annoy me while I am studying and he doesn't have any goals. I asked him to get a mental health check but he denies he had any problems. ALso forgot to mention he has anger issues and punches walls when he is angry.

@@ashleylove6840 Video game addiction is a lot more common then people think. One of the things i did for myself was getting a job. But that took a lot of inner motivation to do that. 24 is the age where you start to see people around you getting married/having kids/graduating. There's no timeline in life and you shouldn't compare your journey but that realization was enough for me to get out of a rut. Wishing your brother nothing but the best

Watch some medicine and anatomy videos..basically something which shows what becomes of all the junk you eat once it goes inside your body..fats, blocked arteries, fatty liver.... I noticed that seeing and unders 😭anding the consequences affects your senses somehow. Now, everytime I see any greasy foods or even mukbang vids....i almost puke.

Many people around the world are engaged in (video) gaming and gambling behaviours ,which are recognized as addictive behaviours, but usually do not result in any significant health consequences. However, a small proportion of people engaged in such behaviours may develop disorders due to addictive behaviours associated with functional impairment or distress. Video gaming is highly prevalent in modern culture, particularly among young people, and a healthy hobby for most users. However, in recent years there has been increasing global recognition among public health professionals and academics that particular patterns of video gaming may lead to marked impairment in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of functioning and psychological distress for a significant minority of players. People who partake in gaming should be alert to the amount of time they spend on gaming activities, particularly when it is to the exclusion of other daily activities, as well as to any changes in their physical or psychological health and social functioning that could be attributed to their pattern of gaming behaviour. Gambling in many countries and jurisdictions is considered a form of entertainment, characterized by betting/wagering mechanics and monetization features. Like gaming, repetitive gambling behaviour can potentially lead to gambling disorder associated with distress or impairment. In recent years, there has been an increasing convergence between gaming and gambling on various platforms, significantly aided by the Internet. This convergence may give rise to migration from games to gambling and co- occurrence of the two disorders.
