We live outside of our town about 10 miles. In 2002 we lost electricity for 17 days!😱 Then in 2015, we lost electricity for 6 days the week following Thanksgiving and then again for another 6 days the week following Christmas. In 2016, we bought a whole house generator. Then, in 2021, we lost our water due to a sudden loss of power at the water treatment facility in town. All that to say: being prepared is essential!!

Robin be sure to add a can opener, Propane, and gallon jugs of water for your emergency stash. You will need items for a grill to cook that food.

When our boys were still at home our oldest would pour cereal in a big mixing bowl and then slide it under his bed. When I got low on bowls and dishes that is where I would search first.

Kudos to you Robyn for trying to prep for the "big one" as we also call it in Washington state. I do urge everyone to go through their back stock and consider donating items to a local food bank that have at least 3-6 months left before expiration because it's likely we can afford to replenish our items from time to time and food banks depend on us. Great idea to include the actual recipes you will make from your emergency food! I hadn't thought of that, and it would be so easy to store the recipes next to the ingredients. One last thing I thought of is to use a sharpie marker to write the expiration date of foods very large in an obvious spot on the container when your purchase it to save time looking all over the item with a magnifying glass, my husband and I spent at least ten minutes the other day trying to find the expiration date on a bottle of catsup ugh! never found it. Have a great day!

It is a good idea to rotate your stock. Like figure out how many cans/packages of something you want to have. Then use from your stock and replace with new as you use what you had.

It is such a good idea to put complete meals and recipes in individual totes. That way, if you were stuck at work, your family could fend for themselves if needed. Fill them in on the plan incase communication is out. I hope the worst we have to fear is tracking the expiration dates on the pantry items. Your channel is always so good. ❤😂❤🎉🎉🎉😮 You are very blessed to have the storage space for sure you need. I don't see water nor toiletries, baby wipes, emergency medicine and other things that are considered needed flashlights. Maybe some charcoal to cook outside/doors.

Oh thank you! We have wood (outside), and the medications, but not toiletries or baby wipes! Good ideas!

There were a couple times this past winter when I became quite anxious about losing power during some really bad snowstorms. Earthquakes though... those are so unpredictable and the situation with the trees falling down sounded scary too. We get a lot of the same canned items as you from Costco but everything gets stored in the kitchen. I used to keep some overflow in the basement but, as I've become more minimalistic, I've simplified certain areas of my life so I don't deal with all that inventory rotation anymore.
@MinimalistHome

I love that, thanks Jenny!

Oooh, yes! We just got one last year, BUT we are lucky because our stove is propane (no natural gas here)
@annarchydeclutteranddesign413
Wonderful job, Robyn. We live in Wellington, New Zealand, so I really should get onto emergency supplies myself. Though I did wonder if the glass jars of peaches should be quite so close to the edge of the shelf? Otherwise, brilliant!

We seldom look in the Harry Potter closet downstairs. Just a few stored items that must be kept. Not much space here, although we are minimal, there are four of us again!

Although I also remember enjoying the movie, I think that Revenge of the Nerds might be hard to find because of some scenes that might not have aged well, such as the sneaky way that a certain character tricks a snobby girl into a situation that could be characterized as rape.
@MinimalistHome
@MinimalistHome Год назад
Yes! I wondered that too, but so many other movies don't age well either. The good thing about that scene is it gives us some good talking points with our teen boys about consent...because that certainly wasn't consent

@MinimalistHome
@MinimalistHome Год назад
Hey Sue, I’m glad you asked. I made this video about how clutter affects our health. If you have hoarding disorder, I recommended speaking to your doctor and consider counseling. Then, baby steps to start decluttering. Decluttering will not harm you, it will help you! Your life will be so much better with way less things ❤️ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--jcRsTn_k7s.html

Wait, what?...... batteries are supposed to be stored in "glass" ??? First Time I heard that. So apro po because I cleaned two of the three drawers in my kitchen and the one left has batteries in it that I'm going to organize into a clean drawer. Glass for batteries is on the list today. Getting them out of cardboard boxes and plastic bags. Now do you tell how to tell if they are still good batteries or not?
@MinimalistHome
@MinimalistHome Год назад
Usually the good ones are still in the package (but not always...kids!)
@LisaSmith3663
@LisaSmith3663 Год назад
@@MinimalistHome lol well I started to watch this, stopped and went to clean the drawer. Some of these batteries came with the trailer I'm with. And going through boxes I come across random batteries. The hoarder in me wants to keep them in case they are good. I did just get a junk drawer taken apart and cleaned out and waiting for it to dry before I put it back together.
