I used a plastic ruler for a bench scraper until I got one, and an old plastic lazy susan until I got a decent turntable for $21 on eBay. You can cut the corner out of a plastic bag to decorate. Cut vertical angles into the tip of a bag if you don't have a tip. Where there's a will, there's a way! Good luck.
I used a ruler.. was still a mess.. sooooo said.. I dont need smooth... ah haaa.... cut notches out of a piece of cardboard and used that.. I had rings on sides!
I love you 😂 she said struggle bus(and yes I'm already on it) 😂 I can watch you all day long!!! Your down to earth, you know what your talking about. Your so clear with instructions and direction!!! I love the fact you don't say "um"!! I'm more a cupcake lady. You've made me change my mind about stacking a cake. Thank you so much for your time and videos 😘😘
I absolutely love her. She takers her time to explain every steps. I cant believe I'm MAKING my First layered cake....excited. I have to hit repeat a thousand times..but I'm doing it!
Thank you for this I make great cake but i cant decorate them well for so long its been all about the perfect texture and flavour of the cake for me but now im ready to learn how to make my cakes look pretty
Got no turntable? #1 put a lazy susan on your work surface. #2 put your pretty cake plate (you or have/bought one in anticipation of this cake you're thinking of decorating didn't you? Put it on the lazy susan. Voila': jury-rigged Turntable!!! Might want to put something non-slip between item #1 and item #2 just in case.
I’m 43 and never had much success cake decorating. I’m now going to buy some proper supplies and give this a go. Thank you for sharing this content with us
Great tutorial, we like how you explain everything..you make it simple and easy to understand and yes me my 7year old daughter are still on a struggle bus🤣🤣🤣 when it comes to cake stacking and deco cz we're more into making cookies and cupcakes ......bt we'll get there, hopefully
And how do you make the cake? I need to bake a birthday cake by the 4th of July. By mom even thinks buying the cake would be easier than me making one.
This video was so helpful! I’m a beginner in the baking field and this taught me alot🤩my mom bakes cakes sometimes and when I’m piping icing sometimes the piping tip explodes out! Do u have any tips for that not to happen🤣I’ve tried to not squeeze the bag as tight but I always end up doing it
Awesome!! Now I feel more confident to pull all the supplies needed out (AGAIN lol) And do this😳 thank you for sharing and walking us through! 🎂 NEW SUBBIE!!
Hey suger greek. I love your cake's. But i just want to make a simpel cake with no layers. Do you also have a movie for that how to make a simpel cake for 1 cake tin. Thank you
I messed up by not flipping the cake twice. I have 2 domes with my cake. 😢 I’m doing a lot better. lol I took a chance of learning to make a birthday cake for my niece maybe a month prior. Cake turned out good but the frosting job was rushed. Didn’t wait for the cake to sit in the fridge for an hr. So hopefully today’s practice will be it! ❤🎂
Omg I’ve been looking at cake videos for days trying to figure out what I need and what I want to do with my daughters smash cake... so glad I found this video because it has EVERYTHING I need 🥰🥰
I absolutely love you videos and I just found you looking for candy apple. I have not seen like 10 videos I’m one hour. Thank you your explanation ways are amazing
Hello I came across your RU-vid channel and really enjoyed your tutorial, thank you for taking time to teach Us beginners:) I will keep connected to your channel.
I once heard that someone used the inside of their microwave ( ie glass plate and the wheel component). I found this idea out after I purchased 3 different turntables🤦♀️ Each one either didn’t turn smoothly ( actually all 3 don’t spin smooth) or were not stable. I should have just bought the Ateco cast iron bottom turntable I wanted in the first place. I don’t have a business yet, but I am on my way there! Sugar flowers are my favorite to make and arrange for my cakes
Try Fantasia Fondant, you won't regret it. It is a very forgiving fondant with a long work time, which makes it easy to work with for beginners and pros. Fantasia Fondant is formulated with elasticity making it a high performing fondant when covering cakes or performing in silicon cake molds. The colors of Fantasia Fondant are vivid and fadeproof. This fondant will not prematurely dry, crack, tear, break and 'elephant skin.' Offers a less sweet taste that resembled a homemade marshmallow fondant.
I'm only 10 years old but I've been decorating lots of cakes before and also making them but the only struggle I have is that I don't have those fancy tools that kind of help with making it like when I need a scrape execs frosting off the cake I use a butter knife I know it sounds funny but I don't have a bench scraper and when I need a pipe frosting I use a ziplock bag because I don't have a piping bag or tip
Lol wish I had seen this in 2020 when I was starting making cakes because even though I went to a cake decorating tools shop and bought everything stated in the video I was using the cake scraper wrong all the time until after six months I came across a video like this one and realized how stupid I was 😂😂
Definitely needed this video im thinking of making my sons 1st fancy cake for his bday instead of ordering one but I will definitely practice before hand this video was very informative
Sugar Geek... Once the cake is complete and put in the fridge to set the icing... How long is too long to keep it in the fridge causing the cake to taste dry? It doesn't look nor taste moist..
i’m never good at baking but very good at cooking anything but i’m so happy i came across this video i really didn’t know what to do . My son birthday is coming up and we in quarantine and i want to learn how to make it myself it always gave me so much ANXIETY the stuff i need to make the perfect cake but i’m so thankful this lady makes things easy and simple that’s what i been trying to find . definitely recommend watching her more
I've also made a lot of cakes but I never decorated a cake in my life like I have baked a cake and just ate it like that but I've never liked decorated it I never had the time to make frosting put the frosting on and like do the crumcoat and everything and all
Wow thank you for the cake advice!!! I’m really interested in becoming a Cake Decorator/Baker and I’m new to your channel!!! You did an amazing job explaining all the techniques we need to know for beginners. I will be subscribing to your RU-vid channel, and I am super excited of getting started with baking cakes, cupcakes even cookies, brownies and stuff!!!! Lol 🎂🍩🍪🍰🥧
This is a great video!!! You explain things so well and you have the best personality!! I really believe now that I can do this. Wouldn't this make a cute Christmas cake too with some Christmas colored sprinkles The swirls on top could be made a little higher and colored with green food coloring to look like Christmas trees. Do you think that would work? Also would an inexpensive lazy susan work as a turntable?
These are butter cakes with oil. They get hard in the fridge because of the butter in them but once they come to room temperature they get soft again (just like butter). Storing a cake that is frosted in the fridge does not dry out because the buttercream seals in the moisture.
If your cake is covered in buttercream, the cake will not dry out. It will however, get cold. Cold cake can sometimes taste dry but it just needs to warm up at room temperature again.
I looked at the links on your blog to the cake supplies and the link to the 6" cake pans takes me to 8" x 2" cake pans. I did a search for the 6" and I found 6" x 4". Is that one I need? Thank you. This is a fantastic tutorial.
Rachel Boothe oh whoops! Well it’s up to you, I usually use two or three 8”x2” cake pans or two or three 6”x2” pans. I prefer magic line pans, but fat daddios is also a good brand 😊 hope that helps
Hey, Wendy, did you ever get an answer to your question? If not, Liz states her preferred vendor, Truly Mad Plastics, in her article on her blog; follow the first link in the description above to read more. I've not yet checked out the site she refers to, but will be back to add to my comment if anything is noteworthy. Good luck!
