all furniture selections are based on what I could find to fit the perspective of the room, these designs are less about the specific decor or color but more so to show what could generally be done xx

The true test of a designer/decorator is how well they can decorate a home like this (or a home like the “gray apartment”). No one will ever convince me otherwise.

Hey Paige! I think it would be super interesting to see how you tackle a trailer house (mobile home). I’m from the southwest and these homes are super common here. Currently renting one but I’m having so much trouble decorating cause they’re so outdated and the long rectangular layout is so odd!

In the south, you could never take our ceiling fans 😂 but my mama taught me a good rule for them- they should never be a design feature. Flush mount, no light fixture, and painted the same color as the ceiling. So you have your necessity without it sticking out!
@hahayouarefunny
@hahayouarefunny 3 месяца назад
Great tips! I moved into a home with a very dated ceiling fan in the living room, and I was on a budget. So I unscrewed the blades (which IIRC were white on one side and glaringly faux wood print on the other), and I painted one side of them with my favorite color and reinstalled. This was very easy to do and was a fun refresh! I believe I painted the white side and left the faux wood facing the ceiling because it seemed the more fun one as the overbelly.

Being able to justify ripping out a ceiling fan is a status symbol…it means you probably live by the beach on the West Coast.

@anotherhomeschoolmom1367

We are in the south and ceiling fans are a must. It's not for white noise, it's to keep the air in the room from being too stuffy and to help keep the house cool. Homes with ceiling fans have better air quality and less mold issues, especially in the hot and damp south. I know they are ugly but they are definitely a necessity in many parts of the country. We need them in all the main areas of the home as well as the bedroom.

I came here to comment a super similar idea! Paige I think it would be a fun challenge that really helps viewers if you tried a video decorating outside your signature style that we see time and again (olives and hunter greens, pops of red, stripes and plaid, 90s yellow wood modern furniture, mod couches, little lamps, modern art mixed with oil paintings, Roman shades, chrome, large midcentury wall units… it’s such a specific style I can see it with my eyes closed). I LOVE the Paige Look, it’s a huge basis for my personal style, but mine has a bit of a dark feminine take and I also live in Florida which affects architecture and what’s available in thrift stores a lot! I would be over the moon to see you do a pastel challenge, a witchy challenge (incorporating aesthetics in a super subtle elevated way where it’s not themey or tacky), a sultry 60s jazz challenge, a gold hardware challenge, a traditional/victorian elements challenge, a zero Paige calling cards challenge, even a coastal challenge?? Like if you were an interior designer and had clients giving requests, but make it Paige :) doesn’t have to be a whole house, maybe a video could include a grab bag of styles/palettes/restraints with one room each?

I would love to see a video of redesigning just rooms in an apartment. I share with roommates so my bedroom must serve most of my functions. For reasons I won't get into staying in my room most of the time is my best option for sanity. My dressing, office, workout, storage, and sleep spaces all occupy a 12x12 box. I'm an adult so don't want "dorm room" feel. I finally have a plan almost figured out but would love to get more inspiration from similar small, multi-function spaces. I will share some thoughts of my own. I am thinking of getting a wall unit to replace a dresser and other storage units. I never see these in bedrooms but think it could be cool. I recently purchased an extremely large desk that doubles as a vanity and a workspace. But I want more ideas.

Your ideas are inspirational Paige! In a couple months my hubby and I are moving to a standard 90's Australian 3 bedroom built house, completely unrenovated (called 'builders grade spec home'). Not moving for the house, but the location, near the beach/ocean on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. I've spent the weekend drawing up a plan to see what our current furniture fits and what to move on, as we are downsizing from a 5 bedroom, large lounge and kitchen home. You've given me so many additional ideas!

Congrats on your sea change! We've just done a tree change and had a similar experience, turning a pretty nice but still fairly standard suburban home into something special. I haven't painted any thing yet except the front door, which is now a gorgeous forest green, but just getting great ideas for furniture swaps, revitalizing what we have, new rugs and lamps etc has made a huge difference. It's all coming along thanks to channels like Paige, Caroline and Nick Lewis
@_wesleyhome_
@_wesleyhome_ 3 месяца назад
I'm glad you added in some greens bc I was worried it was going to stay beige, mushroom and brown. The only thing that I would flag is that in the TV room and family room, you have lamps in the middle of the floor. Those have to be plugged in somewhere, which has to be planned in as floor outlets. It's doable in a larger project with taking up the flooring, but difficult to accomplish otherwise. The shower curtain in front of the glass door would also be a problem bc the minute you open the glass door, it will pull the whole thing down, and when you close the door again, it will get stuck in it from the top. So while I get what you're trying to accomplish, it could be a headache. With windows in bathrooms, I always frost the glass so that you lose none of the light but keep all of the privacy. (Same with the skylight.) The primary bath likely has two sinks even though you can only see one in the picture. I think it would be fun to find two vintage mirrors that coordinate. I've never done it, but it could be something to challenge yourself with and just be patient until the right thing comes along.

I don’t understand why interior designers hate ceiling fans. AC is expensive and not in every home where I am. if you don’t have central heating or cooling you need ceiling fans, if you live somewhere that gets super hot you need a ceiling fan. If you live someplace that gets super cold and you have a wood stove you need a ceiling fan. If you do have AC but don’t want to spend an arm and a leg you need a ceiling fan. If you live somewhere with humidity you need a ceiling fan to keep airflow. Ceiling fans are great, I live somewhere that doesn’t typically have AC ( the PNW) and they are a nessessity in my house. I love having multiple ceiling fans.

So glad to see this come across- my 1992 suburban subdivision home is super open concept and filled with tons of awkward asymmetrical spaces. That being said there are actually some cool features that I’m trying to play up with creative choices and trying to be more daring with paint colors, bring in antiques, and play up the tall ceilings. It can feel overwhelming at times because I’m doing almost all the work myself but it’s so rewarding to see my home as an ongoing art project.

I loved this design, especially the front room that is usually unused and sometimes abandoned. I never thought to just take command and switch the intended purpose. Its SO much better, and now both rooms would be used regularly. I would like to see you decorate a 1880's Baltimore townhouse or New York brown stone, with no major demo. Alot of shows and youtube tours chop them up and just change the character of the old ladies. I would love to see what you would do to them.

The tv room makeover was my favorite. I generally like to have a bright bathroom for getting ready and am at a loss on what I’d do with that floor tile if I had to keep it. Probably pretend it didn’t exist and brighten everything else including painting the vanity? A large warm rug would hide most of it.

This video is *genius* you have no idea how grateful i am you made it. Our little family is currently in a boring gray apartment (lol) unfortunately i found your video on that wayy too late and had already furnished the whole place (with, yes, even more neutrals & gray 😂). We are currently on a house hunt and all of the houses within our price range (we are looking lower-end) are a similar, typical suburban aesthetic (popcorn ceilings, orange-y pine wood floors, brassy fixtures) and i know that we won’t have money right away to renovate if we do end up purchasing one. I have been searching high and low for how to tastefully decorate this more * dated * kind of interior and it’s amazing how NO ONE talks about it! It’s like unless your home was built in the mid 2010s you’re screwed or you’re just gonna have shell out tons of $$$ on renovation. Thank you so much for sharing your tips for such a niche yet universal challenge!

Paige, I liked this video a lot because most decorating shows on tv are major gut jobs with huge budgets designed by a professional decorator. Just learning how to work with what you’ve got makes more sense, especially in today’s financial climate. Also, the bathroom really had old dated tile. A friend of mine found these stick- on vinyl tiles the same size as the floor tiles. She put them on, leaving just enough room so the grout showed. It looked like a new bathroom! 2 yrs in and the tiles still look great.

I really like this one! I own the house I live right now, so I don't have restrictions from landlords. Technically I can do any kind of renovation I want, but in reality, interior design and contruction are just way too expensive, and I have zero experience with reno DIYs...What you did in this video is exactly what I would like to achieve!

I love videos like this, it was really helpful! I live in a sad condo and am hoping to make renters friendly upgrades. I just wish I had better thrifting options where I live. Also, I’m really loving your newsletter!

Yes please more of these! I know you already did an apartment but perhaps a really small one, or one from a different era.

I love the idea of switching the room that the tv is in. You made the family room with the fireplace look so cozy! Love it! I have a 1990s house with all of that honey oak and can't quite figure out what to do with my massive stair railing. I don't want to paint it white, because I adore wood. It's just the dated stain colour I'd like to change, I just don't know to what other stain!

You could try using a gel stain on it. It would require minimal prep! Minwax gel stain has good samples to pick from.
