Oh my Gosh! Words fail me. I have some windows from when I put new windows in 14 years ago....yay. But, I have an idea to use thrift store picture frames with the glass of course to practice on. She is so down to earth, so available. I could listen to her talk all day. Hope you still have some of the stencils left!!! Thank you for all you do.
Beautiful project as always, you have got an amazing crackle with the glue and paint. I'd never thought of using an old window.I love your videos as they are always inspirational.
Sue Bryant Thank you Sue! I have never had luck with those two part crackle paints, and a friend of mine suggested the white craft glue. I started using it on a few of my projects and found it was quite easy. I'm happy I could inspire you! Patti
Good Morning Patti This is so lovely* I just love how it turned out. Of course I never thought of decoupaging a vintage window. Love the idea. My husband brings me home vintage windows all the time from work so I will be trying this. Have a great day and weekend Patti thanks for another awesome video** deezie
Beautiful work! And by the way I loved the music! Very relaxing! I purchased some old windows can't wait to get started! Your steps are very easy to understand! Thank you!
jogry blok I understand Jogry. It always helps to start very small. I started with items that I was going to throw away anyway and if I didn't like it, I just threw it away. But once I started to turn things into other "pretty" things, I was hooked. I took a small wicker trash basket that i was going to throw away because the color was faded. I painted it a soft cream color then decoupaged a row of napkins all around it. I was hooked! If you have anything you're ready to throw away, try practicing on that with napkins. You'll probably be happy that you did it. I'm here if you have any questions ok? Patti
Years ago my husband brought me home 36old beautiful windows I still have many left mostly Iv been painting on them sold some Gave mostly away for presents . some of them used in my studio my honey built for me he passed away last year and I will need to sell some soon but haven’t gotten to that pint yet don’t know how to start but will keep you informed is that okay ? Your window is a fabulous pice of work. God bless Nice
Thankyou, I enjoyed your video, an introduction to a craft I've not attempted before and added the concept to "Must Try", I have a piece of furniture just crying out for a beauty treatment, Jackie.
I just love all the things you have created just beautiful , and very helpful also . Thank you so much . I tried this myself on a small window and it came out very pretty . I can't wait to get on to my next project . :) Thanks again Vickie
+Stephanie Clark Thank you, I'm glad I could help. If you ever want to post pictures of your work on my Facebook page I would love to see them! I get inspired from you too.... Patti
I love love love your work. You make it look easy, but something tells me that I'm going to make a mess the first time or 2 out of the box. LOL Thank you kindly
Cowgirlinheels LOL, you're welcome but I know exactly what you mean. I used to watch Carol Duval's show and she the guests said something was simple I would dive right in only to learn-it was not so easy. If you mess up on a small plate though you can at least just soak it and start over. (hot soapy water makes everything peel away) Patti
Omigosh!!! How did I miss THIS one?? Patti , it turned out so, so gorgeous!! I think you outdid yourself this time. And even that plate......scrumptious!! I think I will start there first. lol BTW, my dresser project from last summer is STILL not finished, (I'm so bad!) But I do need more tools. A small nail gun would help!!! I just can't get over how beautiful your window turned out. This vid is going straight into my crafts playlist. Thank you so much for the great instructions. . Oh yea....do you still have that dresser you did that is like the window?? I'll bet your house is so pretty!!! (Unless you sell the things you make. ) Gosh that's gotta be hard to part with certain things... Talk to you later. Take care, ~Jill
+vegasjill21 Hi! I have to admit that this was one of my all time favorites Jill. I then went to Ikea and bought these soft little pink lights that I hung all around the outside and it even looks pretty at night now. As far as my projects? I am a Taurus Jill, the sign of possession and the sign that says, "I have" so I have almost all of my projects!!! I have sold a few and a few I have made for others-so that was good. But I also make things that I need so I still have a lot of them. Don't feel badly that you haven't done that dresser. I have had a project brewing for so long now that I think I started a blog post about it the summer before last! Then I didn't get to it. I'll tell you what it is once I finish it and make a video-but I do have a lot of projects on the back burner. I'm always working on getting more organized and getting rid of things I don't need anymore. Always a challenge! Thank you so much Jill-oh and the dresser like this is in the garage with hundreds of napkins in it! (decoupage napkins of course) It's supposed to go into a closet upstairs but the floor has to be re-carpeted which we were going to do a while ago. (my husbands parents died within months of each other last year-they were both in their late 80's and not in good health) so there were a lot of expenses that had to go into that and the carpet has not yet been done. It's one of those house projects that will get done eventually. We're all so busy aren't we? Patti
patioelf Hi Patti, Yep... not enough hours in a day to get the things done that need to be done! Seems like the older I get the shorter the days are. Time is just passing me by!!! :( I hear ya about being a Taurus. Me, too. May 8 I'll be 59 OMG I am old!!!! See?? Time just passed me by! lol So I, too, have a hard time giving things up cuz I hold dear so many things.I am very sentimental!! It's so funny, when I moved from Vegas and came back home I said I will NEVER have all this foofoo shabby chic dust catcher frilly things all over my house ever again!!! Since I had to leave about 80% of my things there, I thought I would start anew and go contemporary. Yea right!! Well...THAT didn't happen! So... slowly but surely my vision kept going back to 'more chic than shabby' decor and I love it all!!!! lol I am just drawn to it ...it is just ME . And I am happy with my thrift store finds that I have altered.. So life is good. :) Condolences to you and your hubby on the loss of his parents so close together. . It shows the deep bond they had in life. Bless their souls. Ok, you take good care and I am anxiously awaiting your next project! ~Jill
Thank you Jill, fellow bull! I'm May 16th and I'll be 58 on my next birthday...Wow , we have a lot in common. I am the same way with the shabby. I try to go in the other direction but now I think, "eh? why fight it? I love the romantic, sentimental and girlie stuff." So be it. Thank you for the condolences, I will let my husband know you sent them. He is always touched by hearing that someone who doesn't know him has sent such warm wishes. Patti
This is a wonderful project! I have an old window that I'll be attempting to decoupage in a few days. Will I be able to use a "crackle" spray paint over the decoupage glue (or crackle spray paint first before the decoupage glue) to get the same effect as the white glue and chalk paint? I will post my finished project on my Lilly Picadilly Decoupage page on FB.
Hello. I painted a frame with Chalk paint, a couple of coats. Then, I added a touch of pink. I was trying to de-stress it. Any ideas? Thank you in advance. By the way, I love this piece. I'm determined to craft every idea in my head, and I'm inspired by other artists as well. I'm so grateful for my gifts.
This is fabulous!! Love your crackle. So if I was to do this crackle on a piece of furniture would I use the darker color first - then decoupage glue and chalk paint then dry? 💖
Narsil2004 Thank you! Yes, that is what you would do, if you're going to decoupage I would do that after all of the paint and crackle has dried. Just decoupage over the area's that you like. :) Patti
Lynda Thomas Hello Lynda, * and thank you! It could take me a while to get back to you but there is a page on Facebook if you're on it called Mason Jar Madness and Decoupage. The people are very helpful, some are brand new and some make decoupaged items for sale. If you friend them (tell them that I sent you) and ask questions on that page, you will get a lot of help. :) If you're not on Facebook let me know and I'll see if I can help you. I do have one video where I decoupaged over a mirror, there is a stencil involved but you can just ignore the stencil part of it and see what I did too. here's the link to that video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ei27ci2QtgE.html Patti
Thx Patti, and I try to catch all your tutorials. I had no internet for a minute but I'm streaming, learning and ever inspired by your Art. Thx Again, Lynda in Utah
Thank you so much Lynda, I'm glad you have your internet back, (gasp) and I'm so happy you're inspired. That's my goal! You've started my day out on a good note! Patti
Patti, this is sooo pretty!!!! I have a question too....do you think you could use this same technique in reverse for the same look on an item that wasn't glass...I am doing a trunk that is metal and because the outside doesn't have much character I thought about trying this. Maybe this order...acrylic paint (darker than chalk paint), decoupage glue, chalk paint, then decoupage papers, more mod page, then ??? Not sure what to seal all this with since it is a metal base, I suppose a water based matte varnish would work since the paints are all water based. I used Rustoleum for the primer tho. Thanks for any help you can lend..
love this but was wondering can this be done on a stationary window in my trailer. I cant take it out but need to make it pretty. can you let me know thanks.
Really enjoyed watching this as its been something Ive wanted to do to a window for ages now. Where is this book you show on your videos? Ive been looking but cant find it. great job, thanks so much for sharing. hugs Tibby xxx
+Spellbound987 Thank you! This window had been sitting in my garage for so long, so I understand what you mean. The book is for sale on my website-which actually goes through Amazon (free shipping) the link to my site is above in the description box. I hope you give this a try - it was a really satisfying project. :) Patti
If you use a transfer, do you apply it to the front? I don’t see any other way to do it since the sticky part is on the back of transfer. Also, I want to decoupage a 20” x 30” sheet. Would I apply the decoupage on the whole window first then lay paper down? Thanks
+sue rowe Hi Sue, sorry you feel that way but you are in the minority. There's no need for a lot of art except that it's lovely to some, not to others. Majority rules here though ... :) Patti
Haha! It must be an American thing as all American programmes have loadsa irritating music in the background! And I agree, we do need art and I love yours - it's just the background music I don't like! (;o) x
+Noor fatima Thank you Noor, you can get the napkins here! upcyclewithdecoupage.vpweb.com/blog/2015/07/16/How-to-Decoupage-a-Vintage-Salvage-Window.aspx
