I just finished decoupaging an old wooden tray and I used the Iron - On decoupaging method which is absolutely foolproof and I didn't get a single wrinkle or tear in my tissue paper. It's really the best method I've found for attaching your paper to any surface. I painted the tray with white emulsion paint (which is very cheap to buy from paint shops, and you can get 300ml sample pots in any colour you like for only $3.00 each, so I bought 6 pots in pale blue, pale rose pink, lavender, cream, white and navy blue for $18.00 and they're great if you don't want to spend a fortune on chalk paint - which I love, but it is prohibitively expensive to use all the time!) Anyway, after painting the tray and letting it dry, I gave it about 4 coats of Mod Podge and let that dry. Then, I lay my decoupage paper down on the tray and covered it with a sheet of baking parchment, and plugged in my iron and set it to high heat but with no steam on - this is because steam can cause wrinkles and bubbles in the paper, as well as damaging it. When the iron was hot I just ironed over the baking paper with the decoupage paper underneath. The heat melts the Mod Podge again and the paper sticks very smoothly to the base of the tray, or whatever surface you want your paper to stick to. I used lovely paper from www.zazzle.com.au which is the Australian website for Zazzle, and you can buy gorgeous paper for only $3.00 per sheet. And Zazzle has heaps of designs to choose from. I really recommend trying this method, if it works for me, it will work for anyone. Love from Amanda Jones in Australia

I've had a banged up/cracked wooden fruit bowl that's been in "find a way to make it look nice or chuck it" limbo for ages. Thank you for a very cheap and attractive solution :))

Thank you so much for this video - I was so nervous about my decision to put tissue paper on the art deco vanity I am flipping. Wow - you really made me feel confident and drawer number one is done . Easy peasy and I can’t wait to watch more of your videos! 🦋💕🦋

Question. I photopcopy quotes or art clips onto tissue paper and decoupage onto wood. I use the heat method. Works great and all but my question is. When I give it a coat of modge podge spray to seal it the paper bubbles. What am I doing wrong ?

Hi Randi, I looked on your blog post for the link to the tissue paper. I had found a site that had tons of prints, but I can't find the bookmark. The tissue you used in this video looks like one I loved on the site. I'm not really that good with computers. All I saw on your blog was a link to Amazon. Would you please give reply to me with the link or tell me how to find it on your blog? Thank you, La Velle

I really appreciate your work. Its looking beautiful. Thanks for uploading the video. The paint which you did on wood and on the tissue is "Chalk paint"?? What type of paint we can use on it?

I used chalk paint...Rustoleum brand. I like the matte finish and you don't have to use primer first.

My tissue paper has a bit of a waxy feel. Can I still use it? Also, is a white primer (like kilz) okay for the first step?

I would go ahead and try the tissue paper. It should work. I would use chalk paint for my paint layer...not sure that primer is a good choice. Let me know how your project works out!

It's thin. You could use thicker if you want to.

You worry about wrinkles & tearing, yet you are quickly circling you fingertips when using a rolling pin, tumbler, or even straight & controlled finger actions would produce better results. You should have also informer potential viewers that common white glue works great, esp when thinned out some with water.
