Welcome to the J and C Academy Music Singing Assembly Masterclass Video. Watch closely as Molly demonstrates key skills and techniques to maximise and embed learning withing a KS2 Singing Assembly.
They might be 'engaged and stimulated' but I'm sorry - this does not constitute an effective singing assembly. There is no consideration for the quality of the singing. They're just shouting - and you're encouraging them to 'Sing with a loud clear voice'... You say sing loudly to a KS2 child and that to them means shout. NQTs coming to watch this video for ideas for a singing assembly - have a look at going on a British Kodály Academy, or Voices Foundation course to REALLY learn how to teach songs to your children.
Hey kathleen, What you've said is, of course, valid. Quality of singing is always key. But if you're a non specialist music teacher (which this is aimed at) it can be very daunting to engage in teaching singing assembly. I think what they've done here is to lay out MTYT techniques, engagement, crowd behaviour and a nice warm up idea. It doesn't help that there's a yeller quite close to the recording device of this presentation (bless!!) I think they've done a great job here to help the non specialist.
