I wish I had seen your video first,! I struggle tremendously with this. I watched multiple video's on this NONE of them remotely descriptive as yours, I could tell right away you actually knew what you doing,
Thank you for the extensive information and video; I was able to rewire my Civic--I had all windows failing, speaker failing, and had just lost door locks :) The instructions on releasing the pins were fantastic, as was the wiring guide.
I’m here because like everyone eventually some functions in the door stopped working, in my case the power door lock actuator. This video has the details you need to fix.
Thank you so much for all this background, I am in the middle of this exact job, I can't thank you enough, especially at 16:32 when you show how to release the wire ! I made up a depinning tool that works by grinding a small screwdriver until it did the job.
Really great video! I can't believe these terminals need to be lifted up like that to remove. It's difficult! Thank you for the much needed explaination!
Thx for quick response and showing how to open that harness up correctly. I actually just soldiered mine but I agree your way is definitely the correct way. Subbed
great video and I think this is going to be a lot of help. I have a 2000 Civic EX that has the same problem. It started with speaker, then inside door lock button but key fob still worked. Now, the key fob works on all but driver side door. I haven't tested the windows. (it's my wife's daily driver now.)
Thanks for taking the time to make this, it's exactly what I needed to fix the connector on my 97 Civic. Incidentally, when I went to the junkyard to get a replacement plug, the wires were shot on every civic I looked it. I looked in an Acura Integra, and the plug and wires were like new, but all in the wrong positions (wrong wire size and colors in the various locations.) I plan on soldering the wire ends from the Integra onto the Civic wires in my door jamb rather than sourcing new terminals.
Thank you for the information about the duplicate wires. Both my grounds broke off so I had no idea where the heavier gauge was supposed to go since it doesn't mention gauge at all in the service repair manual. I figured the white tab lock but I didn't know I had to lift up to release the pins. I did it by just forcing them out with one of the tools from my terminal pin remover kit. I'm in the middle of the job now.
Thank you for this excellent video, I did this to my 2001 Honda CRV (1st Gen) it has the exact same connector. The 1st Gen CRV is prone to the wires breaking near the drivers door harness. which effected the operation of the power door locks.
+Chris Sunderland You're welcome. I am glad it helped you. I spent an exorbitant amount of time to share this information and I am thankful you took the time to let me know that it helped you.
Thank you for making this video. What is the AWG for the smaller and larger wires going to the connector? I think you said 16-20 gauge for the larger wires. I may want to get wire of both sizes to make pigtails to lengthen the wire depending on what's broken. Is there enough slack in the wire to make this unnecessary? Thank you again.
thanks for the video it clears up so many things, unfortunately I used every possible thing as a depinning tool but I can't lift the primary lock up, it will bend the tool no matter what (used thin screwdriver, some depinning tool (not oem), safety pin, paper clip, etc), some of them I got out but not easy to do :(
Thanks for sharing. I ruined two c556's before finding this video. I was using a Lisle 56500 terminal tool to get the pins out. Apparently the inside of the connector gets damaged when the pins are forced out. I was able to get the pins out however when I attempted to re-insert the used ones they would not click into place and hold. I attempted to plug the harness back into the door and the male ends just pushed some of the pins back out. Back to the junk yard to get another connector and remove the pins the right way.
Will be using this video and its information in the very near future. Thank you for posting it and the easier to follow diagram. Is this the same wiring diagram for a 97 EX Coupe ?
Hello I would like to know the code of the male pins mounted on the connector in the door to which the 07jaz 001330a is attached. summarizing 07jaz 001330a is the female, the male that code has? I hope I explained myself.
How do you remove the green retainer clip?? The one that attaches the rubber boot to the connector itself. I'm honestly afraid of breaking it, I've been trying for an hour!
Where did you purchase the pins from? The Stealership wants 94 cent a piece for the terminals. Excellent video and explanation of Honda's C556 connector, thank you
+Peter Kowalski Dealership or www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/ use the Majestic Honda prices to Jew down the dealerships prices. Some charge and obscene amount. Check Ebay and Amazon by searching with the Honda code. You can find them cheap there sometimes.
Why 2 different crimpers, do you need both? Would I able to use a wire stripper / crimper tool instead. What about taking the door off instead of the fender?
Kevin K, I had to review the video and the Terminal Replacement Instructions to be clear on that. The first crimpers (Honda crimper and Painless roll over crimper) are for crimping the pin terminals to the wire. The second crimpers (other Honda crimper and Harbor Freight) are for splicing two wires with a splice terminal (butt connector).
i pinched fuel injector wire while putting fuel rail back on car wont start keeps blowing fuse please any sugestions thank you, i also fixed wire pinch still blowing fuses
+Nicolas Shambow You have a short to ground somewhere. You need to get a circuit breaker that resets and follow the wire with a compass unit you no longer have any fluctuations in the needle of the compass. Search for how to find a short using a compass and start there.
Do the colors of the wires on the inside of the door (the perspective that you show us in the video) match the colors of the corresponding wires on the outside of the door?
+Manufactured Reality Yes. The colors and the wire gauge are the exact same on both sides. Imagine having one set of long wires and splicing them at the door jam. That is what you get.
+optimistichorizon Oh okay, awesome. I have the same problem in my civic, but I am probably going to do as you said and just solder the wires together directly instead of fixing the plug. Thanks for the video.
+Lachell Jennings Did they work before you fixed the most recent problem in this area? Remove the door panel and disconnect the connector if there is one and check for voltage. Check for voltage at the C556. If you have the proper voltage with no voltage drop, check the switch for continuity. And again always check your fuses first. You may have blown one again.
Why is there multiple wires with same color scheme? I'm soldering in a new harness and have noticed there is two blu/blk and two blu/wht. Are these interchangeable?
Matthew Binkley 6:45 No, one wire is a larger diameter or smaller numbered guage. The video at 6:45 goes over exactly what you are looking for. Great question.
optimistichorizon yes sir, one of the blu/blk is larger in diameter but both the blu/whts are same. I have a 00 civic ex 5 speed and this thing is hard to find EXACT parts for so I went to junk yard and snatched a 4 door harness and deleted the other two doors from harness. Went really well, fixed my power windows and driver side speaker but now my sunroof doesn't work and my locks lol. I'm certain it's something in those 4 wires that are similar. I haven't checked yet but hopefully I've popped a fuse or relay that controls the locks and sunroof. Idk
Matthew Binkley you should only have one Blue/white wire for the mirror in slot 20. Sunroof may share a ground but the wires are not in the door. check for power at the switch. check for power at the motor of the sunroof. put power straight to the motor to see if it works. buy a power probe 3 if you can. It will save you a lot of hassle. buy a tone generator to trace wires. let me know what your progress turns out to be.

+Lachell Jennings Possibly that was a mistake. if the connection is not insulated from each other you will blow a fuse. Are all the spliced wires connected to the same colors? The same diameter wire or gauge? After making sure you have done this, use heat shrink or at least wrap each wire individually with electrical tape. Once this is done then you should check all of your fuses to see if any have blown. Replace if necessary and inspect to see if problem persists. If not, congratulations. If so, watch the video again in its entirety. I spent a month on obtaining this information and presenting it in a through manner for anyone to see. So please, click play and enjoy.
brother how u depin these wires so easily , i followed ur method , its very helpful , but its extremely frustrating , becoz its very difficult to pull the lock from the clip , i broke 3 or 4 wire clips , and now i m just fedup with this nonsense work , i m from pakistan , and have 98 civic , .......... , u have done an excellent and helpful job brother , but its so tiring for me ,
+Agha Immad I am glad it is helping you somewhat. I heard of Civics in Pakistan but I have never had any interaction with anyone from there so this is cool. What part are you breaking? If it is the individual clips per wire, you might be okay when you put them back in because the secondary lock should still hold them.
Why even get a price for a heat gun at honda dealer? I didnt even know honda sells heat guns. I just cant see myself going to a honda car dealership, walking in and saying, hi do u guys have a heat gun in stock. I would think they would be like, um we sell cars, and car parts.
optimistichorizon because people are not informed on how to correctly fix their power windows. Thank you by the way for the video. I was able to use a safety pin instead of buying the pin tool kit. Worked perfectly. Thank you. I wanted to know if the wires running out of this plug go to another plug? Where is the ending of the wires off this plug located?
Cesar M. You're welcome. The Door has the male half of the C556. You can remove it after taking off the door panel. I have another video of that somewhere close to the upload time of this video.
Cesar M. The floor harness under the dash. It is a long one if I remember. I will have to get out my complete harness from a 5th gen DX and make a video.
