Check out this video on designing and installing bead board or wainscoting. I did this project for my kitchen and it looks great and it's a great do it yourself home project. I'll show you the material list, measurements and tools you'll need.

I’ve watched quite a few how-to videos on RU-vid and yours are by far the best. You don’t cut corners and you explain things thoroughly. I plan on using this video as a guide when I install bead board my powder room. Thank you!

At first I thought you were ripping birch plywood but then you did that close up on the poplar. Very neat work Jon as usual. Thanks for sharing. I know a bunch of people will get good use out of this video..

Nice project! Always adds a nice touch to a room with little effort. I like nailing in the groove of the bead, then I don't have to sand the little mound you get from nailing into mdf.

How would you handle an uneven wall at the corners? We live in an older house and settling has made most of the walls out of whack to some degree. This is very apparent when one wall intersects with another when dealing with vertical lines.

I’m looking at doing this around our dinning room with mdf wainscoting/beadboard as well as pvc wainscoting in our bathroom. Can you use liquid nail to adhere the material to the wall? Also are you nailing directly into the dry wall? I know you mentioned on the end of that one run there wasn’t a stub so you cross nailed to hold in place till the glue dried..? Thanks!

Jon, thank you for the video. You make it look easy. Hopefully my project will turn out as well as yours. What gauge nail gun are you using/recommend? Did you shoot into only the studs (besides the end with no stud)? How do you do the corners with the bead board (internal and external joints)? Thanks in advance!

Hey Jon, when you get to an outside corner with the beadboard, do you miter the beadboard to make it fit nicely, or do you have to put a corner molding over it?

Hi! Really enjoyed the video. This is almost exactly what I would like to do in my dining room. Now, I am very inexperienced in this type of improvement and have limited tools and money. The dining room is small and there is an existing chair rail and baseboard molding that I would prefer not to remove/change if possible. Is the project do-able with out removing these? Thanks!

Mary LoPreste Home Depot sells textured beadboard wallpaper that looks just as good as the real thing, and is much easier and cheaper to install. You can also order it online, and search for videos and articles on how to install. You can easily work around your existing molding, or get ready-made molding that they will cut for you at any home improvement store, or just get an inexpensive miter box! I did my entire stairwell top to bottom with the beadboard wallpaper, looks beautiful!

Jon - my bathroom is odd-shaped. I am comfortable cutting the molding/chair rail at the measured angle, but what would be the best way to meet the beadboard on that unique angle to avoid an obvious seam? Much thanks, Alex

Hello sir! Can you please advise me? Im not sure what can be done about the beadboard MDF that i added along the long wall facing the outside in my basement. It seems to have expanded and is wavy now. Apparently there are supposed to be joints in between the boards but I didn't know of this issue previously. And I watched few videos and no one left any gaps between the boards. Thanks!

I just watched 2 Home Depot videos about installing wainscoting and both just glassed over dealing with power plugs. The 2 seconds that were shown here was much more detail than they went into. If someone followed those, they would have plugs that were inset back into the wall so the cover would never go over them.

Hi Jon, I am hoping you can help me with this question. I am installing bead board wainscoting in my son´s bedroom and have a dilemma. He has a reach in closet, and it is about three inches further back than the main wall, leaving a small wall. This wall has a round edge, so I do not know how to put the wainscot in this area. Could you help me out with some suggestions? I greatly appreciate it. Regards, Natalia
@JonPetersArtHome
@JonPetersArtHome 10 лет назад
Sounds like you are saying the corner bead on the sheet rock is round, if so just trim as you would any corner. There will be a small gap at the top of the chair rail that will need to be filled. Hope the helps.

***** Thank you Jon for answering so quickly, I think that would work perfectly in most cases, but I kept my original baseboard and that goes around the corner bead. If I do it that way I would be having a protruding edge at the bottom, correct? I hope I am getting the terms correct. Thanks again!
