The Duplicate part has literally helped or improved my design speed and consistency. Also finding out that you can do mathematical calculations right in Illustrator has also helped in doing consistent and accurate designs. And yeah for some reason I actually loved the pen tool from the first time I used it 😁. Thanks Dansky for the tutorial! Much appreciated.
The first tutorials with personality and humour. Thanks so much for straight to the point information. I’m finally not fast forwarding videos and actaully enjoying your content
Quick tip on the first one with the corner widgets. You can hold shift and multi-select the widgets you want to control and then push/pull the widget to affect all that are selected :)
Hey Dansky, Great content! You hit the nail on the head about knowing which tool to use and how to combine them for me is frustrating. I'm kind of a beginner when it comes to Adobe applications because of trying to figure out how to truly maneuver within Illustrator and also was diagnosed with ADHD in 2016. I have the books and when it comes to knowing what to do outside of the reference books my brain is scrambled. If you have any advice or suggestions in conquering this issue, I as a future designer would greatly appreciate it greatly!!!! Thank you!
Hey thanks so much, glad it was helpful! I think the best way is to learn the tools fundamentally, how they work and what they each do. Also treat every complex design as a problem, break it into multiple parts/steps, and then decide which tool is best for each step. I'm launching a new course next month for Adobe Illustrator that will teach everything I know if you're interested: www.dansky.com/courses/the-adobe-illustrator-masterclass 🙂
What I like the most is the editing of this video :) And the math (geometry) part. It'd be interesting to know your opinion about my Logo Modernism playlist.
Keep going you make a very good job and thanks for this! In this tutorial the "divide" option doesn't work, need to group all lines before? When select all the lines and press "divide", disappear the straight lines and the circle inside turn more bold....???
In the 'Math' section, I'm curious why you wouldn't just use a radial repeat on the pepperoni. Seems like a shorter way to get the same result, while still keeping the flexibility to apply changes in size/placement/color/etc. without having to re-math everything. Like, if you like the size, but think it would look better closer to the crust, a radial repeat would allow you to simply increase the radius, rather than having to reposition and do the whole thing over again. Am I wrong? I'm a self-taught designer, so I may just be missing something.
I just tried this out, it's definitely another way to do it for sure, and there is the added flexibility of changing one slice, change 'em all 👍 However, you can't hold "Shift" to keep everything straight when adjusting the size of the repeat area, so the pizza inevitably ends up slanted, and it doesn't seem to snap the paths together with smart guides. The only other issue is that expanding a "repeat group" in Illustrator can cause invisible bounding boxes to appear that can cause problems when combing shapes together with the pathfinder tools for example. I should probably do a video covering that work-around now that I mention it 🙂
oof does illustrator not have node snapping? that would drive me mad that the second cut out on the neck of the guitar was just eyeballed. even being so small. haha.
I’m actually editing a video at the mo about how to easily work with a green screen photo (no cutting out required). That’s what I did for this latest thumbnail, and it’s super easy changing colours etc 😊👍
Hi Dansky, you make some great videos on use of Illustrator’s tools. Once again, however, you’re using the phrase “logo design” when you mean “vector graphics production”. One of the top mistakes in logo design is starting with any digital tool at all. Starting with pencil/pen and paper allows for unhindered creativity in the _design_ phase. Once a design idea is refined enough, then go to digital tools and utilize tips like those in this video for a better process of _production_.
Yes these tips can be used to create vector graphics, as well as logo designs, and pretty much anything vector-based in Illustrator. I rarely ever use pencil and paper, all my concepts and refinement is done digitally using a mouse or stylus where necessary, just seems to work better for my particular design style, enabling me to work and iterate much faster with keyboard shortcuts 👍
