I still can't believe how this video got only 440k views in over two years! Like, what are these young designers looking for on the internet? Man! This video is gold and could easily be sold as a 200 dollar online course. I'm dead serious. I watch it everytime I work on a big logo project. This is like the 10th time. When the designing is done and presentation is on the horizon I always come back (just like now) to get focused and reminded on what matters, because you forget some things when doing other stuff beside logos. Kids wanna charge big for a logo but don't learn enough how to justify the price tag. My logos are maybe no better than average, but I do all the things beside designing (including a great presentation), and with all that I can charge 5-7 k without negotiating. That's why this video is so great.
I felt a nice and kind vibe while watching this video, would love to see Ben teaching more stuff. I love how even from thousands of miles away Ben can give the kindest vibe I have received in years just from a video. Good work man!
I've been there too. A simple solution to that - stop naming files "final" :) I always put a timestamp information at the end of the file i.e. project-name-logo-201810251230.ai (which is YYYYMMDDHHMM) Try it! It will change your life :D
1. Logo on light background with lots of negative space 2. Comparaison between the dark logo on light background and the light logo on dark background 3. Mock ups small and large size 4. Isolated logo
12:30 So true about that ego boost. Once I presented a logo to a client in a beachflag and billboard mockup and they never thought about it to show their new brand that way. So my next job was to create that billboard and beachflag.
I dare you to try this. Then make a new video that addresses this approach. In this video you are advising 1 common and crucial mistake. Do NOT present 3 versions unless you want to create a frankenstein, sub par version of the identity. You have been hired as the expert in id design. You are basically saying to your client ‘I am stuck and don’t know how to complete this work, please help me’ Present the most suitable version. Why leave it to the marketing guy’s wife to decide. Which is what happens when you present options. The client hired you to make these decisions. They have enough decisions to make doing their usual job. Don’t ask them to make your decisions for you. You will be surprised at the effect of owning the expert opinion. It results in higher perceived value of your work and hence more work at higher pricing. Be the expert.
Saw this video 2 days ago.. prepared my presentation yesterday... and crushed it today! They loved the first design so it went better than expected... but man.. I was so relaxed about it because I was prepared. THANK YOU! 🙏🏼
SUPER SUPER AMAZING! Really learned a lot of new things and made a lot of notes. @Ben I would like to ask is Emily's link removed or was it missed uploading at first place? As so many people have asked for it too. Thanks again you and Team Futur :)
thanks for informative video!!! love your guys channel btw Ben where can i download Emily's mockup template with smart object??i checked the FREE RESOURCE LINK but couldn't find what i saw at the video it looks really useful :)))
Hey guys! Don't know if this video came about because of the comment I posted in the community group (re: how do you present logo sketches/concepts) I've gotten some excellent community answers but I'm really grateful for this video "response". Great work Ben!
Fantastic! I loved this presentation, if anything it reaffirmed that I'm doing things in the right direction. One thing I've found that works is bringing forward why you like a particular logo as the designer. I find it takes them out of their head and into yours! Clicked the bell! Can't wait to see more!
As a User Experience designer. There is a lot that applies to presenting your interface and experience changes in this video. It was an excellent thought exercise for how the goals of the deck's content could be altered to fit the UI, UX, Product Designer field.
This is honestly more than I bargained for. It was such an amazing wealth of knowledge that you shard. You also presented it so well. I got the information I didn't know I needed to ask about. Thank you so much, Ben, and the Futur :-)
Another Great video, as usual, You guys are the best out there and very helpful. I've always struggled with my logo presentation and boom here you go with this. Problem solved. Just to give you some follow up. Since I watched the first video on this channel I went from not having business to now closing out 90 percent of my clients and charging a lot more than what I use to. And its pretty cool that you answer your comments it means alot, just saying. You guys are going to have a bag of money sent your way for sure. God bless you!
I appreciate the "Psychology of Client Presentation", is there a Futur video featuring mostly Emily's part targeting behance / dribble / artstation style portfolio presentation platforms?
I think The Futur is doing so well in business that they're sharing this kind of high quality content, and at the same time, generating a high quality feedback. Congratz guys! Thank you for this! Shout out to Ben and The Sensei Chris 🔥
Guys love you to the moon and back! Starting my own creative business in country where no one is that professional and no one wants to share their best practices and experience ( you know, eastern Europeans..). So you you are my best inspiration and advice. I didn't noticed that I spent a lot of time a day watching your videos and this time was the most valuable time spent on the internet. Thank you and hope you will make more and more! Following your steps and hoping for the best! Hope to see you all one day and discuss professionally.
Learnt so much from this video! Awesome! Started to use the tips you gave when presenting logos to clients and I haven't got a regection once in the 3 months since implimenting your advice. Thank you!!!
I have watched this in 2020. Well, I've had issues presenting logos to clients, A friend of mine once called me a dictator as I always presented one option of Artwork, Be it logo, poster or business card e.t.c. to my client(s). I started presenting the same logo design in 3 different versions but with a few tweaks and this gave my clients the sense of choice. I don't really ask for feedback or comments, as Like you have said. "I send mail or Whatsapp" Am changing that effective immediately. This has been useful to me.
I am quite that dictator too, And What i do nowadays is share sketches before hitting illustrator then tweak the final one into 3 related ... Plus, I share jpg in black and white and a mockup that best suites the brand. I don't ask for feedback either, Because worse you do bring it, You have to explain properly ( Haha )... I love watching this video, Will create this kind of presentation according to Mr. Ben Barnes and share on my Behance...
Hey Ben! I‘m not a logo guy but your approach is carefully done and I enjoyed watching it. And Aron, so many good details and steps included in this cut. 👍 and to the whole team: I like the new way you’re going. A lot of professional recordings and ideas summarized in a shareable video. It reflects your skills and equipment you play around with. And the sponsor is carefully included and absolutely fine!
I love watching Ben hitting the mic and video. I can tell the hard work you've put in and the growth over the past year. Wow. Kudos to Ben and Chris. Also, love this video - one of the all time best ever.
Very nice video. Inspirational! But...what about How to present a Web Design projec? I've got a lot of ideas from the video, but could you do a video about presenting Web design projects? Thanks million!
Hey guys, I really loved this, it's really helpful. I had a question regarding client selections of your presented mock-ups.... If you present 3 versions of a clients branding; 'a safe clients version', 'the designers pick' and a 'push the boundaries' version is there a tendency for 'most' clients to immediately reject the 'push the boundaries' version, or the 'designers pick'? Obviously this will change based on the client, I just wondered if there was a....'leaning' towards rejecting one particular option.
Ben Burns, thank you, thank you, one thousand times thank you. This is the best christmas gift I got. PS: I know asking "did we miss our mark completely?" is meant to break the ice. But doesn't that give the impression of being insecure of your work and results? wouldn't it be better to show more confidence at the end of the presentation, and breaking the ice in another way?
i'm with you on the icebreaker comment. i guess we all have to come up with a line that works for us. i think when he's staying that, he's being sarcastic (because we usually over deliver) that it becomes obvious.
I'm having an idea of presenting only 1 proposal and a max of 2. The first round is you presenting 1 proposal to the client, talking about the master concept, the base and soul of the brand, presenting the design elements that support the concept, (colors, typefaces, signs, textures) and finally, mockups. There could be 3 scenarios A, B or C. Scenario A is proposal accepted, no changes, all clear. Scenario B is proposal accepted but some adjustments required (adjust the thing and make new presentation). Scenario C is proposal not accepted so you have to create new master concept (I see this second proposal as a guarantee for the client, instead of giving back money). If by the end the client is pleased then it's success, but if he's not satisfied I would then reconsider if its it's worth working again with client (this happens a lot and sometimes the best is to look for new clients I believe). What do you think?
Hi Ben thank you for the most valuable information regarding branding entrepreneurship. I wish if you help me clear few doubts. What are the deliverable the big branding agencies(Future Brand, Landor, Brandunion etc)provide to the client at the end of closing the project. I mean are these only Final vector file, guidelines, video presentation? for that huge amount?
This is the first time I EVER write a comment on RU-vid but I just feel like I have to. I usually open like 4 tabs randomly from videos I would like to watch within the next hour. So I did, and I was watching "I Wish I Knew This When I Started: Logo Design". The second one was this and I was just completely shocked to realize the same guy on the previous video was this one. I even went to the other video again to check his face and name just to be sure. It is amazing what The Futur did to him. In the first video, he was just shy and with low self-steem, telling the story of how he used to charge only US$50.00 for a logo. Now, I see this amazing guy who knows what he's talking about, with tons of confidence and find myself learning so much from him. Now he looks like he could charge US$10,000.00 for a logo. The Futur, you only know how to do magic with people. Thank you for all you give us. Watching you is way better than any school or institute. Good vibes to you all.
Very informative, especially the psychology of holding the client through each step of the presentation. Would appreciate seeing more of your teaching & coaching with the Blind designers if that’s at all possible? You have a great teaching style and approach Ben. Loved the content 👌
Not all projects allow to do such developed presentations. Perhaps you guys only do big projects with big numbers. But how should smaller projects be done? Also this already goes into branding and identity design. When the first step is a logo, its kind of hard to do all the extra work for the mockups. Most need a design which is kinda making the brand. DOing this for all proposals is much work. That probably means you use big numbers for making a logo. I find the mockup process to be more like branding. Though it does help the client get a better feeling on how his/her logo will look and feel.
Its true that is a lot of extra work, but that extra work is both billable and valuable to the client and it is of tremendous help in the long run to have a solid foundation for your brand.
@@andreimariuteac your missing the point, not of it's a small client and thus not billable you make a quote #o you know what you will make on this project. Billable is when you work per hour
I really loved this video. It was very knowledgeable and I was able to identify my mistakes right off the bat, what have I done wrong in all the phases of my logo presentation process. One question that comes to my mind is, is this also the way you should make a behance presentation 🤔. I would like to look forward to a video on how to make a behance presentation and the do's and don't s of the presentation.
tnx a lot for this great content. it answers lots of my questions. but i have a question. So when i show 3 logo concepts and they like one of them but they want to change some parts for example they say i like design but i dont like its color.. what should i do? should i show some flexibility and change color or convince them its the best color for your purpose?
another question, what if you don't do a new identity for an existing company. what if I do an identity for a completely new company? (this question is targeted to "our goal is to build a new visual identity that...")
I'm about to represent Logo choices to a client, so I'm revisiting this video which it great, but these days it's hard to do this physically, so the only way is to send a pdf file, I'm sorry but what do I've to do? especially I've to fly in order to meet the client.
After watching this kinda put my presentation to shame because I just sent my client pdf files with the logos and that's it. You live and you learned though. EDIT: The logo was $150.
Hey Ben, thank's so much for this! I was putting together a pitch deck this evening while watching and you helped me get my thoughts together as I was panicking re: delivering a logo tomorrow afternoon. Love the video. Thanks again--very generous.
OK... First, I love the video and especially Ben's style. But, a couple of things. Watch Bill Burr's comments on Apple AKA Steve Jobs. It's right on. Nerd Jesus hahaha. Next Apple computers represent give or take 10% of computers worldwide. I feel Ben's comments on Keynote not being a Windows app were disrespectful. Apple is an OS just like Windows Linux Google and others. That's all it is. It's not Nirvana. Hello? Adobe has more Windows users than Apple. Most Adobe tutorials on RU-vid rightfully recognize this. Ben talks about Photoshop. Again. Hello? Who cares if you are running Photoshop on a Mac or a Windows device??? Or download Storyblocks content on whatever device/OS of your choice. Keep up the good work Ben. Don't betray your non-hip heritage. It's what makes your videos appealing (as other commentators have noted).
What if you can't meet the client in person( Another country for example ) ? Do you send some sort of a PDF or presentation through email which contains these points ?
I am doing a degree in Visual Communication Design and i can guarantee that i have learned more from The Futur then even my teachers taught me in the lectures and seniors dont even know the things i know from ur channel 😍 respect u alot
A quick question. I am a window user so do I have to send the client a PowerPoint presentation or do I have to send the client Mp4 format of the presentation?
THANKS! I´ve just make my first presentation based on your tutorial...and, dude, the clients was fascinated! :D And SO DID I. It took one full day to make the presentation look great but I loved how it have such a strong presence, and how it makes me look MORE professional. THANKS a lot. I loved it. :D
This has been incredibly practical and informative. It has answered questions I've had for years, even decades. Thank you so much Ben Burns and thefutur team. ...one question tho, those Photoshop mock-up files Emily created. I thought they were in a link below the video? Wanted to check out her Smart Objects...
Sooooo glad I found this video. I want to work in graphic design and this was perfect in giving me the reality of things and a great step by step structure to the work process. Thank you
Great video. The first steps in the slide is a great idea and something I will adopt going forward. The mocks-up strategy I may disagree with though... Creating high-fidelity mock-ups can take a fair bit of time and add lot more cost to the client. Great if you wanna squeeze more cash out of them but not so great if you are working together in a budget/or trying to position yourself as great value. Why waste time creating these mock-ups for designs they will reject? I usually present the logos like you said - white, coloured, b&W + slight variants. When they choose a direction I will apply feedback, tweaks and then excite them with the full mock-up package to finish.
