My issue with pushing potential danger away from the aeroplane is that is moves the danger into a larger crowd of people. The queue before security. Can't get past security? No problem. Blow yourself up in the line instead.

Themcx Ones religious preference is not a security factor. In Israel it is socially impolite to ask outright "what is your religion". In Israel we have large minorities of Arab Christians, Arab Muslim, Druze, Bedouin Muslim. Many serve in the Israeli armed forces, army, police etc...so we don't really care if a tourist is Muslim or not.

Its called a "safety ratchet" for a reason. It only goes one direction. No one looks good advocating for less safe things. So once a "safety" thing has been implemented, it is somewhat permanent. The only exception is when you get an opportunity to start over. "We're going to implement a brand new set of rules" is when they can choose to leave things out and hopefully safety advocates don't catch on.

Israel's security is so good because they can use profiling. Profiling allows you to focus your security resources on the people you really need to keep an eye on. In the US granny's get strip searched because the TSA has to treat everybody equally.

I'm Israeli and I can confirm. Most security forces/services training puts emphasize on suspicious behavior which can be a person walking quickly among a crowd. This is all mostly based on experience, "written in blood" if you will. When I was at the central bus station in Be'er Sheva, a guy really needed to take a piss and he was literally running and trying to cut the line, and he was blocked by all of the security guards at the entrance hall..m

6:16 I live in Israel. I wanted to meet some friends in Germany. I'm male. I traveled alone I'm 19 And I'm arab. They didn't even give me the interview and immediately slapped on a 6. I just found it funny that I checked every single requirement to be higher risk. Although, I do still find it slightly odd. I think the main reason for this high security was because of my Arab family name. I have light brown hair and European like light skin. I also speak Hebrew fluently without even a hint of a different accent. Fun fact, on the way back to Israel I spoke to the interviewer about gaming and mainly overwatch. It was a nice conversation but I still got high security risk... I felt betrayed. And lastly, there is a security clearance system in Israel to work certain jobs. So I think giving the airport that kind of info to affect direct family should cut down time for many people. Just a speculation idk if its actually a good idea.

just a note, ICAO isn't a regulating body 0:59. It doesn't have a position of authority over its member countries. It sets standards and recommended practices (SARPs) in order to foster safe international aviation. Each member country has its own regulating body which imposes its own aviation regulations, these regulations are based on ICAO's SARPs and can differ a bit to adapt to each country's needs. just noting that there is a difference between regulating and setting standards :)

My biggest fear airport security being stopped because I look suspicious. Thanks to life events , my feet sweat so much that leaves a footprint of sweat, my reaction times , and I do things like pick my fingernails and so on. Even though I would never do anything remotely bad, I always have to try not to look suspicious going in the airport. I never been pat down but I hope that never changes.

Yeah, some people's fears become a self fulfilling prophecy. My mother will spend the entire security line fretting, out loud no less, about if security has to search her bags because she has needles in them (for medicine). And then to her complete shock (but no one else's) she gets picked for a "random" secondary inspection every time. Like you just spent an hour talking about how you're concerned that security might search your bags, *of course* they're gonna search your bags. I'll trade you for the no patdowns though, TSA seems to think my chest is dangerous.

About 40 years ago I can remember deciding on a whim to go see my dad in L.A. I drove from Stanford, where I was going to school at the time, to SJC, which took about 20 minutes. I had no luggage, and bought my PSA ticket from a vending machine at the gate. They closed the door just after I got on, so we were airborne 30 minutes after I decided to go visit him. The flight was very cheap, too - even as a student, it wasn't very expensive - I want to say $39. Within two hours of deciding to visit my dad, I was sitting in his living room. Those days are gone for good (although the fact that I now live 1500 miles away from my dad, instead of 400, has something to do with it).

Years ago I stumbled across a video clip from an unknown source, titled “passport control,” which seemed to be from an Israeli comedy show something like SNL in the US. Apparently, Israelis don’t take ALL of their security procedures seriously, and I got a chuckle from it. In the skit, a young woman in uniform was screening passengers, and a clean cut young man presented his passport. The agent looked at him and the passport, shook her head, and said “Lo” (the only Hebrew words I know which were used in the skit are “lo” and “ken”). The man motioned for her to wait, pulled out a kafiyeh (Arab headdress) and put it on; she still said “lo.” He pulled a false beard out of his bag and put it on; still “lo.” Then he held up an AK-47 and posed with it, making a “victory” sign with his free hand. Finally, with the man looking exactly like a Palestinian fighter, she smiled, nodded, said “Ken,” then stamped and returned his passport! If any Israeli citizens recognize the skit and know the names of the actors, the name of the show, or the year it aired on Israeli TV, please reply here. Oh, and congratulations to your newest Hollywood Star, Gal Gadot!

@@NoamTheGOAT50 When the last time you've heard about a Muslim hijacking a plane in any western country. Racial profiling could be justified for Israel because if it's location and history and the current climate in that region, but in the west it would be an absolute disgrace and a way for the majority to over reach and fuck over a minority because they look 'suspicious'. I never hear white people or Christians come out and say racially profile white male students because they're a higher risk to commit a school shooting. Most hate groups in America consist of white male extremely conservative and extremely religious (Christianity) people. The most notorious hate group, the KKK, feature a cross on their clothing. Maybe the Middle East and all of Africa should start profiling those people in their airports. You over look the terrorism and dangerous groups in your country and only focus on the muslim minority. Shameful....

A friend of mine once traveled to the US and accidentally forgot to take a bag of weed out of his pocket. At the airport, he just kept it in his *closed* hand, and even when being pat down they didn't check it or find it. The worst thing is, he still had it when flying back from the US, and did the exact same thing, and didn't get caught. It's all a joke and a show instead of anything effective

Maybe if everyone goes in and out of the airport naked with no luggage. Airports will be more secured 😂😂. Because all these screenings aren't just enough.

People pass drugs by stuffing them into condoms and swallowing them, or inserting them in their body cavities. So even naked, they could smuggle stuff! And since X-rays would likely not have the contrast to distinguish them from your stomach's normal content, even that wouldn't stop it. Full-body MRI perhaps? That too could possibly be foiled by adjusting the water content of what you're smuggling to get the right contrast.

Simply put, they have all the reason to do so, and then pin it on Assad. The US wants Assad gone so they can put in their oil line, ISIS wants Assad gone because he's a secular leader.

Planning an attack on a place with any security at all is, you know, actual work. Stealing a car or truck and hitting people is way easier. It can happen pretty much anywhere (near roads). It's (sadly) not only something nearly anyone can do, it's also at lesser risk of discovery (before it happens) and in the long run just as - if not more - effective.

1.5x playback everything - thank me later I'm old enough to remember tracking decades before 9/11. The same idiots I saw before 9/11 sleeping on a stool while 'guarding' a locked door are the people folded into the TSA. They have unions and are nearly impossible to fire, especially if they are a minority. The governemt usually sucks at what they do. Go back to private security and have real accountability. Employ security professionals. Hell, send them to Israel to be trained and weeded out if that is what it takes. Most of all, realize that political correctness is not worth a single death.
@KuraIthys

I certainly know increased airport security got very annoying. So time consuming. I used to bring small pocket knives onto aircraft. Those are barely a threat, but nowadays you wouldn't be allowed to. Yet in the mid 90's nobody batted an eyelid even going through security with them. Anyway, all things have consequences many of which aren't immediately obvious. It's counter-intuitive, but essentially correct; Increased airport security may indeed be increasing the death rate overall. Makes aircraft (marginally) safer, but it makes travel in general less safe. Go figure.

I flew out of Ben Gurion several times (since I used to live there). That interview he refers to is true. Even overseas, the degree of the interview I received was crazy. And I'm a Hebrew speaker! (But I completely understand why the security is this tight and agree - it's necessary) I checked the barcodes on my passport, I got some 1s and some 2s. It makes sense that I didn't always get 1. I always get nervous in airports. That thing about arriving 3 hours early? Absolutely true. Even now that I no longer live in Israel, I can't help but arrive at airports 3 hours early. And I keep on getting shocked by how quickly I get to check in (because I'm used to Israeli security standards, not Australian security).
