Definition of whitworth thread. : a screw thread with V-shaped cut used chiefly in Britain for screws of larger sizes.
The thread form is now redundant and has been replaced by Unified and Metric threads but there are many applications in which it is still used. ... British Standard Brass (for which there is no British Standard) is based upon the Whitworth thread form with all diameters having 26 threads per inch (tpi).

That's not a thread. Where is the helical.

It is an imperial-unit-based screw thread standard. It is an british standard thread, but now in modern world, its usage is reduced.

No wonder they stopped using it! I think anyone would have difficult time threading that into anything.
