1:13 What to consider when choosing a wood density type
1:53 Best types of firewood to use
Choosing a type of firewood may seem very simple but there are a few things you will want to take into consideration when choosing a type of wood for your needs. The density of the wood plays a large part in the woods efficiency. Dense wood or hard woods will burn longer and gives more heat, while soft woods will burn faster and do not produce as much heat. It is recommended that you have a variety of hard and soft woods in your firewood pile.

That’s the most quality information I’ve ever seen crammed into 2 minutes & 48 seconds. Thank you!

My aunt used to make biscuits (and everything else) on a woodburning stove. Those biscuits were the best I have ever eaten. I believe the steady, even, moderate heat produced the best results.

If in the intermountain western United States pinyon pine is a good both hot and long burning pine. It is sometimes called the hard wood of soft woods due to its resonably long and hot burning time that is not typical of most species of pine trees and there wood. I believe that it scores around 27m BTUs or a little more if I remember right.

Hi Melissa, I am new to woodburning stoves. Is it true that pine wood will ruin a wood cook-stove? If so, why? Is it the pitch in the wood or something? Thanks for the information here, I learned a lot from your video and it was very helpful!

I usually throw in about 1/2 of a face cord of poplar in for free when I sell a cord of oak. This acts as a great fire starter wood and the customers find it very thoughtful. I don’t mention it until I show up with the wood and I have it off to the side to keep separate. Someone selling firewood will just mix it all together and tell you it’s good to keep a healthy mix of wood because they just mix it all together and sell you a bunch of poplar mixed in with good slow burning hardwoods.

I have lots of big poplar I'll be cutting. Should end up with 4-5 cords afterwards. I only burn 2 a season so even the poplar should last a decent amount. Plus I'll still cut down some beech and ash

No. Woods have marked differences in chemistry depending on species. Oaks would not have turpenes or pinenes. And pines would not have tannic acid.

Ash: One of the best woods for a steady fire and good heat. Although ash will burn when green, it burns better when seasoned from what I have read.

if you want high effincey stove ....buy an old cook stove with oven. a little fire in that 6x6x14 firebox will heat the hell out of a house 40ft x 60ft x two story house and use 90% less wood.

According to my survival book,Sycamore and other Maples make a good wood fuel-log, burning well with a moderate heat output and good flame.
