Hi Reachel, love this video but as a lot of the comments below my measurements are somewhat all over the place here are my measurements thanks for the help! 32 waist 39.5 bust 42 hip Bust/waist= 1.23 Waist/bust= .81 Hip/waist=1.31 Waist/hip=.76
I'm having trouble with this as well- my measurements suggest I am either linear or middle but I do not have a boyish straight shape and neither am I bigger like Kelly clarkson or adele
Hi dear, measurements and diagnosis can be tricky especially if you have a unique figure. Perhaps you are an hourglass. At times they tend to gain weight around the midsection and may measure more like a middle, but don't really match that criteria. I don't know if that's your case, but if so, you can blend body types to meet your needs. For example you can pay attention to the hourglass ideas, but opt for a few of the middle figure core cloaking techniques. Hope that helps :) Your profile pic is darling by the way
and one thinking having a hourglass figure was a good thing but in today's world is a nightmare... jeans fit on the legs and bounce around at the waist, but if they are skinny jeans they do not fit either part ;p blouses fit at the waist but fit tight across the torso, coats have to be larger to fit the torso but then one resembles a scarecrow at the waist and the arms because it is just a bit big... had to add back lacing to a beautiful hell bunny 60s winter coat to correct that problem, so yeah I wish I had the money to not buy clothes OTR. Bodies are all different and clothes sizes are all the same.
it's my first time to find someone calculating the body type with such perfection and scientific manner with numbers and not only depending on how the looks appear to be like and for that i'd like to thank you a lot and my dimensions are " 40 31 41" i believe it to be an hourglass figure my sister's are " 41 35 42 " and i believe that she have a middle figure hope you tell me if i'm wrong
Beeing a hourglass also has its bad sides like when you buy jeans: In one Moment you say its to tight because you can't get them over your hips/Butt and when you finally make it you go: " well fuck ...now they're to big" because now they are to Big around the waist!!
Thank you soo much. You seem very professional. :) I have something for each of the body type. Please help. Thank you! :) Bust=35.5 inch, Waist=28.5 inch, hip=37 inch Bust/waist=1.245 hip/waist= 1.298 waist/bust=0.802 waist/hip=0.770
Based on your numbers, I would lean towards an hourglass. Your hips are a little curvier than your bust, so one way you could confirm is to measure the breadth of your shoulders against the breadth of your hips. Just measure straight across from shoulder to shoulder then hip to hip. Hope that helps :)
87/70/97 that probably counts for lower figure, the thing is I have wide shoulders (widen than my hips), and an extremely short torso, my waist is very high, I have long and slim legs. How to elongate my torso without making hips look huge? I usually wear skinny jeans and soft button downs never tucked in, and long necklaces. Thanks!
Super helpful. I can relate to the gaping waist in pants while the legs fit fine. I'm 32, 27, 36. Puts me somewhere between a linear figure and a lower figure. BUT my shoulders are 40 inches around... pretty broad. Advice?
hi im still not sure what i am i divided these measurements and here are the answers bust to waist 1.258 hip to waist 1.322 waist to bust .794 bust is 39 waist is 31 hips are 41
Giovanni Rodriguez you did the measurements correctly, I would just add waist to hip .76. Based on your measurements alone, you are closest to an hourglass. you can also measure and compare the breadth of your hips and shoulders to confirm. If they are within an inch of each other, that's a pretty good indicator.
So, what if my body/measurements have been affected by medical conditions/surgery? For example, I have a fairly large (at least compared to before I was sick) waist measurement, but the majority of the added weight is in the belly, not really distributed around my waist. Do the measurements still hold the key to body type, since people can't always discern the exact spot of the fat deposit with clothing on? or? As best I can tell, I wasn't any of the types. :-/
With medical conditions and even pregnancy, I would focus on your view of your body over your measurements. If you're considered about bulk around your midsection, the Middle Figure suggestions should apply. If it's higher up around your ribcage closer to your bust, I would try Upper Figure. Good luck and good health to you!
Can you send me your waist/bust and hip/waist? Also measure your shoulder line straight across and compare it to your hip line straight across. If you're broader through the shoulders, you're probably upper.
I am linear/middle... when I'm leaner I am naturally very muscular, but right now I'm about 20lbs overweight. Does the 'softness' of middle mean fat or does it mean less muscular and angular and more naturally rounded and feminine? Like.... I think I would be more linear if I were slim, but I'm just fat. BTW my measurements were 37-32-37 and I'm 5'1" with a short waist.
Is it possible to be a mix of hourglass and pear? I read that pears have shorter legs than upper bodies (which I have) and a slimmer bust then hips (wich I have as well) but when you look straight at me my shoulders are just as wide as my hips are (even when measured they are the exact same width). My bust also has the same measurement as the part right above my hip bones... is that balanced or unbalanced? I know this video is quite old but maybe you can answer me though, would be quite helpful :) bust/waist = 1,29 hip/waist = 1,42 waist/bust = 0,77 waist/hips = 0,70 I usually feel most comfortable when I go for something that makes my bust look fuller with light colors around that area, showing off my shoulders and wearing dark bottoms. And also skater dresses and skirts, as well as bodycon dresses and pencil skirts - but I feel like I need black tights and boots or high heels combined to those.
Hi Julia, You've done your research :) Pears do have shorter legs and hourglasses tend to have shorter torsos. The fact that your shoulders and hips are equivalent and your bust to waist and hip to waist measurement are higher than 125% indicate you do have hourglass qualities. However, your waist to bust measurement is just over 75% which indicates lower glass qualities. So in short, you're right. You are in between both an hourglass and a pear. I would say follow the recommendations for pears in most cases. It's not terribly different since both body types benefit from showcasing the waist. The only thing I would be careful of is adding lots of bulk or ornamentation around the bust. Thanks for watching and good luck!
Thank you VERY MUCH for your answer, this helps alot :) Do you have tips on being short-waisted? Coz when I search online it's confusing me by saying that short-waisted girls have long legs and a short torso... I guess that's measured from your waist up and down, right? Coz the pages I've been looking through, saying pears have shorter legs measure from the crutch up and down... and I feel like some tipps on pears don't always look so nice a short-waisted figure.
When you have a short waist you want to avoid breaking it into pieces. Things like a cropped jacket can reduce it's length even more. Instead look for tops that come to the widest part of your hips. That should flatter both your upper and lower body.
Based purely on your numbers, I would diagnose middle figure. If you struggle with feeling slim around the torso, this may be the right body shape for you.
Im quite confused by your statement on linear and middle figure. Bust 35 1/2, Waist 31, Hips 43 I don't have a small waist...am I linear or pear shaped?
Bust to waist is 1.64 Waist to bust is .611111 Hip to waist is 1.5 Waist to hip is .6667 Bust to hip is 1.0909 Hips to bust is .92 I have a 3 inch difference between my bust and hips but my waist is 11 and 14 inches smaller than my hips and bust respectively. So much smaller. What would I be? Hourglass?
Based on your numbers alone, I would recommend hourglass. You can also compare the breadth of your shoulders to the breadth of your hips. They should be within an inch or so of each other.
Haha definitely not. I have small hips... 33". My shoulders are around 39". I just have a very defined waistline with it so my hips are big compared to my waist. And I also gain weight on my bust mainly my butt and thighs secondary.
Nicolas Joseph You may also want to look at the upper figure body type, it's less common for women to have a larger bust than hip. Even if it just gives you ideas for dressing your shape rather than as a definition for your figure. Considering your exceptionally narrow waist, if you feel like your hips and curvy and your shoulders and hips are relatively proportional, I would stick with hourglass.
Top heavy is a better description. But my waist is really defined as well I just have small hips but I have hourglass problems like a butt having hardest times to fit in my bottoms and the like.
Mero Allam Based on your numbers, you are curvier on the bottom than on the top. You could confirm a lower figure by measuring your shoulders tip to tip and hips side to side. If you hips are more than an inch broader, that's another firm indicator you are on the right track.
ummm I'm hip to hip about 16.92 inches and shoulders side to side about 15.75 inches which means that my hips are 1.171875 inches broader than my shoulders .... so am I on the right track ??
im having some trouble idk whether to determine my body shape as "hour glass" or the "linear" shape could you help me? my measurements are..bust=34", waist=28", Hip,37" i would appreciate it so much !(:
+Neha Shrestha Based on just your circumference measurements, I would probably say hourglass. However, if your shoulder breadth is narrower than your hip breadth, I would opt for lower figure. Hope that helps.
+Katie Jolly Based on the measurements alone, I would lean toward hourglass. You can also measure your shoulder and hip breadth to ensure they are close to the same width.
Symone, if your full bust measurement is 36 inches, I would recommend looking at the hourglass body type. You are a slender body type, so you wouldn't need to follow every rule, but there may be some helpful tips for you.
I would opt for hourglass (unless your hips are significantly broader than your shoulders). Usually I say hourglass bust and hip circumferences should be within 2 inches of each other, but in the case of your very narrow waist, I think hourglass is the best profile for you.
Brianna, the numbers are definitely just a starting point. 8 inches is definitely enough to quality, especially if you're on the petite side. Thanks for watching!
It depends on how your clothes fit, but you're either a slight hourglass or linear. You could probably lean closer to the latter even though you do have a defined waist. With your dimensions you have a lot of flexibility with the clothing you select. Thanks for watching.
