I've had frizzy hair my whole life and finally learning about taking care of wavy hair has changed my life. Having the right products, the right routine and even the right haircut makes a huuuuggggeeeee difference!
do you have fine hair? i’m having a hard time, bought some wavy hair shampoo which did help my hair hold the waves a bit more, so i got excited and bought a leave in and air creme and my hair was straighter after applying the product! i have no idea how or why that would happen considering the shampoo and conditioner worked.
I have really frizzy hair aswell but I did the foc (function of beauty) hair quiz and it gave me custom products based on what my answers were and it really helped my frizzy hair !! Xx
A thing people ALWAYS forget too is: You can have wavy and curly hair at the same time. My hair CAN curl into ringlets when it's shorter and layered. But i have thick and very dense hair so the longer it is the less it CAN curl, leaving more wavy looking areas. Hair can be as complicated as skin type.
OMG, THANK YOUUUUU ❤, I always struggle with those tests. For this reason, the shorter parts of my hair always become curls, but the rest of my hair (which is pretty long) just became wavy. This is a game changer.
Also your hair can have different textures in different places. The back of my head is curly, like I don't do anything to it and I get closed curls with no effort. But the front is wavy and it refuses to hold a curl, so I have to work with two different textures at the same time. It led me to cutting it all off lol
The porosity test has a lot that can throw it off. Just observe the hair when you shower, if it gets wet really easily it's high porosity, if it takes a while to get wet and you can see the water droplets roll off your hair it's low porosity.
Also high porosity hair will dry much more quickly than low porosity. I realized this after my hair became high porosity from bleaching and dying it. Suddenly it dried sooo quick
Today I learned I and my whole family had low porosity hair… makes sense when you consider I literally cannot go a wash without oiling my hair or else it’s a nightmare!
If you use the test in the video, be sure to submerge the hair entirely, then check where it is floating. Otherwise you’re only going to be seeing a demonstration of the surface tension of water! :) I’m sure there’s other things (like definitely use about room temperature water) that throw it off, but that’s a big one! Also, porosity changes as your hair becomes damaged, so if you have very long hair that’s damaged at the end, you may see one end sinking and one floating. Good luck everyone!
Finally a clear video on how to know if you have low or high porosity hair and my hair is straight but dries very freezy. I do see some wakes only on the front part of my hair. What can I do to bring out the waves?
Manes by Mell has a video on hair porosity but pretty much with finding ur hair porosity you’ll find ur moisture to protein ratio, and that’s what you use to determine what kind of stuff ur hair products need to have. Also since u have wavy hair, make sure ur products r lightweight and aren’t heavy. Get good quality tools but u can cheap out on hair products. Make sure u at least have a shampoo, conditioner, leave in conditioner, and some sort of styling product, for wavy hair it could be sea salt spray. Good luck!
look for a youtube video on a wavy hair care routine!! depending on how wavy your hair is and what you want it to look like, you should: - detangle in the shower - use shampoo/conditioner meant for wavy hair - either air dry it or dry it with a diffuser - never rub a towel on it, scrunch it with a cotton t shirt instead - for more defined waves, look for a yt video to find info on products
The water test isn't very accurate. Take a shower, does it dry fast? High porosity. Does it take forever to dry? Low porosity. Or you can spray water on your dry hair, if it beads on top then you likely have low porosity hair and if it absorbs into the hair you likely have high porosity.
As a guy with long hair who is trying to finaly take care of it to prevent loss, thank you for this video! Been recently trying to start taking better care of myself in general, and advice like this is very useful. Hopefully the algorithm throws more of you my way
this is so refreshing to see! as a black girl I knew my hair type from the beginning and I liked to learn about other people hair types, but when ever I asked my white friends about their hair they would give me weird looks and ask what do I mean. It's just nice to see everyone learning about their hair.
I agree! There are so many viral hair trends but it seems like no one is paying attention to what their hair type is and whether it's similar to the ones in the viral trends!
I have straight, wavy and large, loose curls all in one, I always air dry my hair and that's just how it naturally dries, I have _NO_ idea what my type is 😅😂 but if it's got a bit wet from sweat or rain I get tiny ringlets on some hairs too, usually the smaller ones around my face and any frizzy bits on the top 🤷🏻♀️
Ugh mine is similar though it never goes fully straight. I can go from fairly loose waves to full on ringlets at times depending on weather and what products Im using at the moment. Im always confused on what I should answer in any hair quizzes for hair type.
My hair (thin) use to be greasy the next day after shampooing but I’ve been forcing myself not to shampoo after watching your videos and now it’s not looking greasy till day 3/4 🥹 glad I stuck with it
Literally so important to know your hair type. I only got a gentle wave going on but growing up it was so oily that it was pin straight and then as I grew up it became dry and frizzy. I was so scared to moisturize my hair cause I didn't want it to be oily again but tiktok literally taught me that my hair was wavy and I just didn't know how to take care of it 😂
@@nilanjasa007 honestly a lot of curly hair techniques still work with wavy hair. I do that tiktok shower hack (rinsing hair down over face rather than back over your back), use leave in conditioner and hair oil, and scrunch up as it dries. If I want it styled or the waves to be more defined on any given I'll use a gel or mousse too.
Well it's just taking care of dead matter, the oily part come from the skin on your head and from transpiration, during teens years it's normal, after that, you hairs are just like strings with a certains patern, your just put tension or not, fill it or not, and cover it or not. Again, hairs are not alive, you can't repair it, you can't change their base, just add products to cause reactions
Thank you so much for these tips. I swear I do nothing to my hair and it gets crazy frizzy, tried wavy hair care routines and products and it immediately stopped being frizzy and looks so much better 😭🙏
This is honestly really useful. Im a guy growing his hair out and its at about chest length rn - it looks absolutely fabulous but the maintainance makes me miserable sometimes
I'm a hairdresser and there's a so much better way to check porosity faster and without losing hair. If you push your hair backwards against itself (almost like you're teasing it) if it sticks really hard your hair is porous and if it falls straight back it's not.
@@Rozkszesen i think it means try scrunching your hair into a ball (not enough to tangle it) and then release it. If it falls straight, it's not porous and vice versa
What she means is take a one inch square section of hair and comb it straight up, while holding it up start about a few inches from the scalp and make three back combing motions to the scalp. If your hair doesn’t tease much and stays pretty close to how it was when holding it it has a low porosity, and the more teased your hair gets the more porous it is
Also, if you have low hair porosity your hair may actually be even curlier, as low porosity hair absorbs water pretty well and when you air-dry it it’s being weighed down by all the water that’s inside of it.
@@karu4115 Hi! My hair is high porosity and curly. I wasn’t really referring to your pattern being dried away, just saying that it weighs it down. For example, my hair is 3b-3c, but when i let it air dry the water weighs it down and it looks 2c-3a
@@karu4115 OH WAIT, did i say high porosity? I meant LOW porosity, sorry! My hair takes 6-9 hours to air dry with no products so you can imagine how water weights it down
I wouldn't say that's necessarily true, when I bleached my medium porosity hair, it obviously became high porosity and it was actually CURLIER than it normally was!
Whenever my hair dries naturally it's always so werid. the top is mostly straight or slightly wavy and then the underside is super wavy and sometimes curly like coils, I have no idea how to wear it naturally cause it's not consistent with the curl pattern at all. Any tips??
your hair might be damaged on the top! I have a similar issue, at my top roots and the top layers of hair it's loose curly to wavy but the under layers are ringlets. if you have fine hair and/or high porosity hair your hair will damage easier and that can lead to inconsistency in hair pattern
It's perfectly normal to have multiple curl patterns around your head (I have three or four personally). You can get haircuts that maximize your waves or minimize the curls to kind of even it out, or go for half updos to hide it. However, it probably doesn't look as weird to others as it might to you
Similar case with me. Underside/back of my head hairs are wavy hair and weird shaped curls with a tough texture, darker then all my other hairs, and thicker then all my other hairs too. However, top of my head is all straight with some wavy hair.
Also, you can end up ruining your curl or wave pattern and not even realize it. Been thinking my whole adult life I had straight hair, until I stopped using Pantene every day and just let it do its thing. Slowly, ever so slowly, I'm getting my waves back 😊
The putting hair in water does not show u ur hair porosity! Manes by mell did an excellent video on this topic but u wanna spray ur hair with water instead and if it takes a long time to absorb water it means u have low hair porosity!
Youre the first person with straight ive seen explain this. Its usual people with curly/natural hair, i was honesty shocked when you started talking about porosity lol
Useful info. I have always had medium type waves. My hair dries nicely, but I have deep waves, almost curly. But never knew about porosity. I have high porosity, and I have learned that high porosity hair is more prone to split ends happening more quickly than any other hair type. Just interesting tidbits there. I find that pure coconut oil (refined for use on the hair) works best as a leave in conditioner. Only need a pea sized amount, rubbed onto the hands and worked well into the hair.
I didn't know that about high porosity hair, but it seems that I've really hit the jackpot with easily damageable hair lol high porosity, fine strands..... can't use too much product or the curls get weighed down so my best defense is to control the environmental factors lol
Could some hair expert please diagnose me and tell me what I should do to my hair and how often I should wash it? I have -wavy/frizzy hair -dandruff ⬇️ -dry scalp⬆️ -low porosity hair If someone helped me out I would be so grateful!!!🙏🥹
Dude I just need to give you credit where credit is due: I have struggled with frizzy hair my WHOLE LIFE. I’ve always thought I had straight hair, no one ever taught me how to care for it past shampoo, conditioner and brushing. Hearing you say straight frizzy hair may be wavy/curly… My dad literally has curls and yet I never even thought it possible for me. Thank you, I'm going to do some research on wavy hair care!
I have that open wave hair type. I’ve had a really short hair style for the past two years or so and now that I’m growing it back out my hair is being rebellious and reminding me that it isn’t pin straight… I’m talking swoops in the most random directions and this one stubborn cowlick directly in the back that insists on standing straight up at the base no matter how long it’s getting. Sure I had it when it was short as well but it was less noticeable with how the top was styled. Now, the rest of my hair will lay where I want it to while this one lock with be sticking an inch out of place and waving like a horse tail. From past experience of growing my hair from a near buzz to a bob, I luckily only have about 2-3 months until it’s long enough to pull back in a small pony tail. Thank you for reading my random rant that vaguely related to the video
For anyone wondering you can absolutely not know your hair is curly well into your 20s. I just learned in the past couple years (I'm 29) that my hair is curly. I would've called it a frizzy straight before and could not figure out why I couldn't manage my frizz.
I’m 34 and FINALLY Learning how to take care of my hair . It’s now getting close to waist length, zero dye , and tons of trial and error and literally ignoring every advice I got 🤣 my hairs finally super healthy lol. Even last week at parent teacher conferences my kids teacher goes “omg your hair is so beautiful! Im jealous” 🥰🥰🥰
There are some other factors like scalp sensitivity/dryness, follicle density, etc. also environmental factors can impact the way your hair interacts with products
I have no idea how you ended up in my shorts, but I appreciate this. I have always loved my hair, it's always been thick and straight as hell which has always annoyed my nan because my dad has curly hair and my mum relatively recently found she has wavy hair and I've sucked at taking care of my hair so this might actually finally help me
I have 2c curls/waves. I didn’t know until I cut my hair last year and stopped brushing it dry. Now I occasionally do my curl routine and it looks beautiful! However, I only do it once or twice a week because I have sensory issues with my curls 😅
I'm almost 40, have never known my hair type (other than straight) and I've never had any issues... 🤷🏽♀️ If you put the same effort into life, relationships, and work, as this person does their hair-- you'll be happy and successful.
Actually porosity levels is the only one you need to pay attention to, you can also have mixed porosity thru out your hair. And what one influencer's (who's hair looks similar to yours) routine may not work for you.
