The internet is full of posts like "Ableton Live 11 - can't find detune / fine-tune by cents slider. I recently upgraded from Live 10 to 11 and couldn't find the option to tune by fractions of a semitone any more. The release notes says "The Transpose control now has a dial control for transposing in semitones, and a text slider control for fine-tune in cents (previously named "Detune"). Well I see the Pitch dial, but there's no text slider control for ct tuning.- What am I missing?!" and many more questions like the following: "Where can I find detune in Ableton?" or "How do I detune vocals in Ableton?" or "How do I transpose in Ableton 11?" or "Can you change pitch in Ableton?"
You want to edit your sample but can find the function to detune and transpose it in Ableton Live 11? This video is for you! I am going over the process of how to pitch and detune a sample so you can fit it in your loop perfectly. This video is also relevant for people coming from previous versions of Ableton like Ableton Live 9 and Ableton Live 10. Coming from Live 9 I just wanted to detune a sample yesterday and I wasn't able to find the function in Live 11. The reason for that is, the function is kind of hidden and not labeled anymore. So if you want to find out how to detune a sample in Ableton Live 11, this video is for you.

How to get access to the Detune control: 05:21 - 06:06

How to match a sample to your bpm using detune: 07:28 - 09:00
Outro: 09:00 - 09:41

THIS WAS SOOOOO NECESSARY. Thank you so much. I literally could not find any information about this anywhere and yours was the first video discussing it. I guess because Ableton 11 is still new and most people use plugins for detuning, but the built in Ableton one was so useful and I was so frustrated trying to find it. THANK YOU.

Hey Tamara, thank you so much for your kind comment, I highly appreciate it. I thought so too, I nearly went crazy over searching for it. Yeah plugins are out there for sure, but the native solution worked just perfect, right. I guess you are right with your thoughts about Ableton 11 being new. Best of luck to you!

Can't thank you enough for this information. I could not find the "detune" function in Ableton 11 either. Thanks again for explaining and pointing out where this feature is and how its used. Would be nice if Ableton would clarify this for all users. Peace.

Yeah I know, right... It was super confusing, I thought they removed it first. Thank you for stoppin' by Diddy!

I understand why you made the video longer. You needed to vent because the folks at Ableton made something that was previously very clear into something frustratingly unclear. Thanks for giving the fix. My clips are now nicely tuned!

I might went over the top with vent... 😄 I am glad you found what you where searching for! It was very frustrating indeed. Honestly after some time of not finding the feature I thought it was actually removed which drove me crazy!

Thanks, helpful tip, I'm also frustrated that Ableton didn't apply more thought to the UX and assumed that everyone would know how to operate a 'text slider' (a weird choice of words, it seems more like a number input to me). The Info View does actually provide information to differentiate the controls, but of course you have to wave your cursor over the two number inputs to see the relevant contextual help information for each. With regards to the operation, you don't have to use your mouse to change the cents - you can click the field then type in the number you want, or use the up/down arrows to change the value. But even then the operation of the detune control is confusing - the Info View says 100 cents = 1 semitone, but when you get to -50 it decrements by one semitone and resets to 50. So 50 is the top of the semitone and -50 is the bottom. It makes sense after a while but not immediately like it should.

Thank you for your comment! I was so confused about the "text slider" choice in terms of funktion, as well as name. It really is more like a numbers input. Now that I understand the function I can use it with my mouse pretty comfortably but one has to figure that out first. Typing is definitely an option, like you said but I am missing the interactive element with that. On the other hand, if you exactly know where you want to land numbers-wise, it is probably really easier to type them. I am glad it was helpful to you. I figured that, because I was searching like a mad man for it, so others probably too... 😄

Amazing information. very long video to address the problem, but eventually very helpful. Thank you very much. But interestingly this detune has nothing to do with the timing of the loop as you started. Does it?
@KPSMUSIK
@KPSMUSIK 4 месяца назад
Thank you, glad you found it helpful. I wanted to talk about my thoughts as well. If you detune it, it will slow down or speed up which you can use to fit the clip to the the grid of your timeline so therefore beatmatch it to the set bpm of your project.

The Daw makers spent years denying the users scale and chords so why should they give us transposing and keying. Complaining to them is hopeless, they left out chords on the Push 3 which I found real insulting so I didn’t buy it. You guys need to complain more or you won’t get the super features you want.
