A paragraph is a distinct part of a composition that is made up of a group of sentences sequentially organised and centres on one main idea.
A paragraph usually has a Topic Sentence and subordinating sentences.
The topic sentence introduces or expresses the main idea in the paragraph. Subordinating sentences usually provide additional facts, information or examples to back up, and strengthen the MAIN IDEA expressed in the TOPIC SENTENCE.
To develop a good paragraph, the sentences chosen by the writer must be logically arranged. The topic sentence often appears first or early in a paragraph, followed by subordinating sentences. However, there are instances when the topic sentence appears at the tail end of a paragraph, preceded by subordinating sentences.
