You give good advice Nicolas. As for Doc Martins, I believe certain styles are a fashion must have. For some of us, sneakers are still only for the gym. @@NicolasFairfordYou have proven you can look great on budget. I also subscribe to spending it on shoes. Because when your feet hurt, your whole body hurts.And a few really good pairs of shoes can really stretch a wardrobe. I also agree when investing in certain pieces, invest wisely as you did!! Keep the videos coming. You are getting pretty terrific at this, especially for millennials who I have noticed really don't know how to dress, and the pandemic has not helped; Lately people are wearing gym clothes as everyday wear AGAIN!! UGH!! [Ask your parents what I mean by "again". I'm the likely in the same age category as they are] PS: I learned in my 20's that shopping in thrift stores in posh or at least in higher income neighborhoods can help save a bundle and if you're consistent enough, you can find that item in your size or that furniture piece you saw in the store that was @300% mark-up.

Mr. Nicolas Fairford--- I might stop at different points in this video as a I re-watch it and make some comments, not to hound you, but to be sincerely complimentary. I can tell this video positions your persona perfectly in an element that you were born to own. You're elegant, charming, masculine, relatable, friendly while conveying points of insight on fashion for men. As your audience I sense your comfort level while discussing clothes and accessories. This makes you a great host. All men want to learn about what works for them individually, and by watching you being relaxed and being real concerning your color and style pallets then other men will follow suit concerning themselves. At age 22 after college my very first job was a clerk in my own office at a private accounting house...this job mostly belonged to men twice my age, so I was bound to dress like I was 45 years old when I was half that age. Needless to say I swiped suits from my father which fit me well enough. I got trapped in that style zone. My youth seemed to fade and my longer stylish hair and beard became super conservative. A fashion leader like you would've set me free. I wore suits and wingtips into my 30s. Fortunately, my boyfriend(s) during those years somehow liked me that way, but I really didn't. I finally broke and wore high end sneakers with cargo shorts as those became popular. Please continue telling your own stories so that everyone can become more at home with fashion. My body type as well as skin tone and hair color also played into fashion choices. Perhaps discuss how we should go about selecting colors and even fabrics suited to the individual. ...Sir, you're in your zone here...own it and run with it and show the world this is where you have real game! My best to you!

I stopped having his suits made at fifty pieces, because I thought that was enough, and now even tho I am still having 5-6 suits made per year, I am now giving away tons of clothes, including suits and shirts, to younger guys just starting out who maybe cant afford good, hand-made clothes. Always important to purchase a few classic timeless quality pieces - they never go out of style and last forever! My sister once commented on my "style" that became known to me. I wear a lot of white crisp cotton shirts. I'm fussy about the quality on a good white shirt, because once you find a quality shirt, you can't purchase too many. (I too hate logos and patterns - I don't want someone else's signature, I want my own!) On occasion, for a splash of color, I have some gorgeous silk scarves from around the world. @@NicolasFairford It is disturbing how that tons of clothing overrun landfills, even 3rd world countries reject the deliveries...this is an amazing fact never headlined in the media. If nothing else this textile material could be shredded and even composted into fertilizer, even used in the production of building materials, or repurposed as safe products used as fuel and to create energy. It will take decades for natural decomposition with some fabrics lasting up to a century. I wish for change...but commerce rules the world for better and worse.

I always wonder, who is in charge of purchasing at theses mega stores! Quality and cut are absolutely bad! So much junk are dumped in landfills.
@katherinefuller5267
@katherinefuller5267 2 года назад
Commerce is driven by demand. Stores wouldn’t sell it if we didn’t buy it. Stores used to only offer a few collections a year. Consumer demand has pushed stores to offer as many as a new collection each week. God forbid we wear the same outfit more than once a week. We demand closets bursting with a variety of cheaply made clothes. Practically everyone that goes in to Target or Walmart comes out with what they actually went in for PLUS a new shirt or “cute” pair of jeans or a hoodie they didn’t actually need. If we stopped doing that, the lack of demand would force the supply to stop.

@@marjanarif8231 I think a lot of third world countries buy from these fast fashion stores. Luxury and style goods like Prada, etc other more quality clothes are very expensive in south east Asia countries like Malaysia the Philippines Thailand Singapore even although Singapore isn’t a third world country... after taxes and currency conversion branded luxury clothes are impossibly expensive, just not worth buying. Let me paint you a picture. In a south east country let’s say Malaysia an average graduate gets 3000 Malaysian dollars per month. An American earns 3000 American dollars per month. Problem is 3000 American dollars is more than 10,000 Malaysian dollars , do you see the disparity? A lot of Malaysians and countries who are more or less on that wealth level simple can’t afford to buy luxury expensive handmade European clothes.

Definitely agree about getting some things that are more expensive (like shoes). If they last longer, the cost probably balances itself out once you divide it by total years you have it. I'm hesitant about spending a lot for certain items, though. For example, I got a sweater, heavily discounted, that was normally $80, (which personally I think is expensive for a sweater) and it seemed to start wearing fairly quickly. I think sometimes expensive does not always equal well-made. It just depends.

Lovely sets of clothes, your style is chic and elegant, you are right about the monochrome for people of small stature / I am also small / my son is a little older than you, and I am glad that young people think about beauty, about their place and style. You are right about shoes, accessories, makeup and hair, they should be expensive, you have chosen the basics of your wardrobe correctly. As for the hairstyle, you have a round face and shoulder length hair will suit you, but not longer, you can wear it loosely falling, or style it back with a hair styling tool. You are on the right track, you are young, my God I am 65 and I consider myself still young when compared to 80 years old. Super collection! And choose a fragrance, perfume for yourself, which will be expensive and eternal.❤❤❤❤❤❤

I hesitate to bring up such a tiny point, but to me, the button, brads, and belt loops of your jeans do a little bit of what wearing contrasting top/bottom colors would do: they create a contrasting horizontal line, stopping the eye. It might work if the belt loops were removed and the brads weren't light colors on dark fabric. Or just untuck your shirt! Your videos are wonderful fun to watch, and they always teach me something. I'm an 81-year-old woman with short legs, and I completely agree with you about the short jackets being the most flattering!

Your style is on point 👌🏻 Of course it helps that you're very handsome! 🥰 Btw have you ever thought about lower rise jeans/pants for your proportions? Then you could afford having a little more length in your jackets, and that would further elongate your figure. Also, avoiding bulkiness in shoes can help to "lift you up". But what do I know - I'm sitting in the car wearing leggings lmao

I can't wear lower rise bottoms now - too many years of high-waisted - it feels weird x

This was how I chose my prom dress in high school - I thought, “will this look classic and glamorous in 50 years?” I felt very elegant in a classic red gown sailing through a sea of leopard print, zebra stripes, cutouts, and bubble hems (because it was 2009).

I absolutely LOVE your style & your style advice. And your perspective of making everything next level beautiful. Being intentional & making it all matter. Excellence as a life strategy. I am a 52-yr old woman/lady/Mum from Canada with UK ties, & you are my favourite. I would take your advice over almost anyone on RU-vid or elsewhere. Case in point, your 'getting ready' video had me taking notes. For me, forget all the videos of women putting on a mask with make-up! You are what we all need in this weird time of life we are all living in. Pure class. Thank you, Nicolas xx

The style that I love, is a mix of classic, modern, sporty, edgy and a little youthful. I don't like too much pattern myself but I think monochromatic patterns are nice something that doesn't look too busy , and I agree no logos. As for the hair I'm deciding whether to have a short classic cut or my hair grown out a little longer with the sides tapered. Thank you for your videos ! I always look forward to watching 🍁😊

Hello again from Vancouver, BC.... , autumn leaves must fall. They are so beautiful, Yes! My abode is a small space & have been rearranging my lamps & throw rugs. The lighting, as you say, has created a really lovely ambience. I too absolutely hate overhead lighting, but hadn't been utilizing my lamps to their greatest advantage. I'm so pleased with the final results now. Do wish the freight wasn't so dear, as I'd have a few of your scented candles about too. As always, awaiting your next vlog, .. do take care.

Hi Nicolas! Superb! Its timeless elegance yes!! I’ve experimented so much in 60 years with fashion, but simple elegance is best. Ralph Lauren is my favorite. Actually you look like a RL model! Great video!!! I’ve worn Doc Martens since the 70s lol. A little hippie-ish touch. Yes I really recommend good quality outerwear shoes and accessories! Nicholas you are wearing classic clothes I have loved for years. It's wonderful seeing someone your age embracing the classics instead of desperately attempting to follow trends. I have learned over the years there are certain colors and styles I simply cannot wear and I avoid them. Never let anyone dictate or influence your style. We're all different. There is nothing sadder than an older man attempting to dress like a 20 year old. For instance slim fit low rise pants. You can keep them. They look great on skinny teens on the runway but ridiculous on anyone over 30. I'll stick to my 100% all cotton straight leg khaki's. Why? They are the most comfortable and versatile item to have in your closet. I can close my eyes and reach for any shirt in my closet and know it will go with classic pair of Ralph Lauren khaki's. Shirts and jackets are where I love to add color and texture. It's my personal style and it makes getting ready simple and easy. If I'm going to wear a print it will be a small check or design that doesn't scream here I am look at me. I always laugh when I see someone over dressed in bold prints obviously wanting to stand out and be noticed. I see this not so much a fashion statement but a cry for help. I wouldn't dare wear a bold leopard print top in my area for fear of ending up mounted on someone's trophy wall next to they're prized buffalo taxidermy.

I love your fashion sense very classic and keeps you young, i too prefer 2 colours or monochromatic colour scheme when dressing and add my signiture look with blazers and loafers / belts . Zara is my go to for jeans and tshirts , blazers belt , watch and loafers usually designer names to dress the look up and add the classy touch.

Was so happy to hear another person who personally does not go much for prints. I have tried to buy some thinking "everyone seems to wear them now and so I should jump in and do the same" Well, again I just was not wearing them and it was upsetting so did give them to a nice charity organization in which people would be happy to receive them and they rally were very new yet. Freshly cleaned etc. But just maybe put them on once. I wasted my money and time as I purchased something I should have known just never seemed to work for me! It would have been better to have stuck with my solid lines and adding jewelry and other things to the wardrobe gives it a "pop" anyway. Can turn that one kind of outfit into various looks. Thank you so much for this vlog!

The Gucci bomber jacket is beautiful! The slim or skinny jeans issue does not fully depend on height, but on all other aspects of your body. Many shorter guys look good in slim/skinny jeans just as long as the bottom part of the jean does not cling like a leotard. In my opinion, no one looks good in the leotard type jean.
