How To Dial In High Gain Amps And Overdrive Pedals (With Timestamps) 

I think most people's problem with gain is that they don't want to take the time to dial in the amp correctly. It takes time, effort, a good ear, and precision to dial in the right amount of gain and have it sound phenomenal. I'm willing to bet most haters of gain couldn't dial in an amp anyways.

Absolutely brilliant video - thanks very much indeed. I play mostly clean - ZZ Top covers would be about as high gain as I get - but as a result I just never have the knowledge to dial this stuff in confidently when I want it. Even though the stuff you're playing is way heavier than I go for the explanations and demonstrations here really are so well done. The demonstration of classic to metal tones on the Engl, and then how a beautiful lead tone comes from a step further on still - that was a real eye-opener for me, because it shows that lead tone comes at a gain level I have probably never even got close to. (Which explains a lot...!) The pedal masterclass section at the end was a real bonus - I have a load of pedals I now realising I am massively underusing because I haven't really understood how to optimise them. That should keep me quiet for a couple of weeks! Just great. Much appreciated. All the best.

Dude...that response to the amount of gain you use was fu**ing hilarious 😂😂!!! I don't use as much as you but to each their own and whatever gets you to your happy place tone wise is all personal preference! I do love a good overdrive though (Airis brutal boost into a gemini for me)!!

Every amp has different sensitivity, feel and gain structure. Three o’clock on one amp may be way less- compared to three o’clock on another.

That was hilarious...great video....You have some really great amps.....I about to buy another rig,but I wanted your advice...I can get a Synergy Syn2 with a couple of modules,or an AxeFXIII.....I am looking to add more amp sounds to my EVH 5150III....I know you have played all of these rigs before....just wondering your take on it.....I will be using either one thru a tube power amp and cab,not FRFR.....although after watching this,that Molecular is sounding pretty sweet..
