Thank you for a great video on how to split the bulbs. Also, the neighborhood kitty was enchanting! Loved that he wanted to be part of the show. Thank you again.

Good morning, you could have just allowed the complete tub to dry out in your basement or garage, and just left it completely alone. Then in Spring, they would have pushed up without watering, you can then separate them or just leave them. Only if they are planted in the ground and depending on your area, removed them or they could get damaged from the frost or too much rain. Those rhizomes looks so well fed, healthy and keep them safe for the next season to enjoy. Happy days.

Yes that is an excellent idea! I didn’t do that at the time because I don’t have a basement and my garage isn’t heated and being in zone 3 my garage would have gotten to cold but it is now heated and that’s actually how I stored them and my dahlias tubers over the winter. I just checked on them and they still look great!

Thank you for this video. This is the first time I have grown Calla Lillie’s and I wasn’t sure weather to leave them in the ground or dig them up. I think I’m going to dig them up.

I am in zone 6a, and I have a raised bed that is close to my house. I have calla lilies planted in that bed. And, they have come back every year for about 5 years now. But, I have taken some and planted them in a raised bed away from the house. And, they came back there too. The calla Lilies had been labeled to be zone 8 hardy. And, in zone 6a here, mine have come back for years now. But, I have now planted some in another raised bed, BUT, this bed has clay soil in it that I paid to have delivered to fill up my raised bed. I had no idea I was getting clay soil though, I thought I was getting topsoil. Anyway, I want to dig up those bulbs since clay soil may heave when frozen, and my calla lilies could be exposed to all of the cold. Then, once I amend that soil, I am hoping I can keep those bulbs in that planter year round. If I fail, I still can dig up callas from another place, BUT, I'd like to save those I can. All of the plants I have now all came from a few Calla lily bulbs I got from Wal mart in a bag of dried out roots or bulbs, and all had been never dug up in winter. But, I am afraid that clay soil will heave the bulbs I have in that planter out of the soil. I need to improve that soil. Thanks for the info. Sweatpants? Your in your garden, so, sweatpants aren't a bad idea. It's a casual situation.

Oh that would be so nice to leave them in the ground! I dug up my gladiolus corms as they are not supposed to survive here either and I must have missed a couple because I had them popping up in my garden. So maybe I’ll leave one little calla Lilly in to just see what happens.

@@simplybloom I would try it IF I WERE YOU.

@@simplybloom Yeah, I would TOTALLY (CALLA LILLIES) try it. BUT, IF you are trying to leave Gladiolus in the ground year round, I would REALLY try to find SOME way to protect the corms. Use some MULCH or extra compost to protect those corms. BUT, if you have Calla lillies that are in raised beds or that are in soil that is very nice and free flowing, it is POSSIBLE that those Calla Lillies can come back up in your flower bed the next year without being dug up and replanted the next year. Either way, I would LOVE to hear about which plant most people have had success with most times. I have REALLY resigned myself to believe that GLADIOLUS are annuals unless dug up in all but the warmest zones.
