Thanks for sharing, Joel. I also had a hard time finding info. Couldn't get the rounded head perfected on my own. Took a little practice, but your technique certainly delivered. Thanks again.
I like to inject catfish bait (use an empty cauik tube/gun), woorks great to keep bait from washing off of the hook, slows release of bait so it can set longer in the water...just a thought...
Nice, very simplistic do it at home without all the cash spemt on molds or hours making silicone or plaster mold. You think if you used long needles or a very small metal rod you could make your basic trout worms?
You started with a 4 cup pyrex then moved to a 2 cup? How many tube jigs can you make with 4 cups? Being that it is so hot, can you just pour it into the "cold" pyrex? Do you need to do anything to heat it up so it does not shatter or anything?
How does your plastic stay hot for so long? Maybe just because of the amount in the cup? I've just started doing hand pouring a few swimbaits and it seems like I would have had to reheat that several times in that amount of time but maybe mine hardens faster because im only doing very small 1/2 cup batches?
Hi! Well, just like you, I myself am interested in making jig skirts. Since like you said, there isn't any information on how are what to start with. Maybe you need to create a video with what is needed to start, and go through the steps on how to then. Start with products needed, then steps to go through from start to finsih.
Nice video. I tried this recently and I had 8 rods and mine were very stringy after the first dip. I think I might need to let them drip longer before turning them over.
Where do you buy your plastisol and plastic coloring ? I’m trying to start making my own baits but idk what to buy or where to buy it from can you help a brother out ?
Nice!!! Whats your process for doing the split/two color tubes btw? I'm referring to the horizontal side-profile color split rather than the vertical (head/tail) color split btw.
I don't do them, but you can dip horizontally using two pans with different colors of plastic in them to get a two color tube. But the easiest, most consistant way would be injection molds with a dual injector.
I have tried it with wood dowels. There are a couple issues with wood. The plastic sticks to the wood making it difficult to get the plastic off even if worm oil is added. Also wood holds heat and it takes spot longer for the plastic to set up compared to steel or aluminum rods.
@@theeverydayfisherman3905 awesome thanks for the reply man, I'm going to try to make some 7 or 8in jigs let's hope I don't mess up lol I wonder if I paint the dowel first with some high temp paint maybe it won't stick as bad
Lot of places online to buy plastisol. Do a google search for soft plastic bait making materials and you will find lots of info. Colors will come with experience and trial and error. But the basics are pretty simple. Blue+Yellow=Green Red+Blue=Purple Yellow+Red=Orange
PGH Custom Baits I have added salt in the past to injected baits. Salt will settle in your container over a period of time. It can work when dipping, but you have to constantly stir the plastic to keep the salt suspended. I personally don't believe its worth the effort as salt doesn't add any real attraction to a bait imo. It will add weight, but it also weakens the plastic and clouds the colour.
I'm making my own molds. All single cavity. I am getting a void in the end feet of one of my frog molds.Any suggestions on what and how I can fix this issue. Should I increase the size of the air ports? It's just ending early and not completing the structure of the foot. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I haven't had this issue with any other molds I have made. Thanks again.
Thanks Joel. Did a little modification to the main mold and opened up the air vents with a tiny drill bit(used like a file). It worked great. Thanks for the reply.
Jahred Klahre yes, plastic can be remelted and reused. Raw plastic needs to be cooked to about 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Once cooked it can be be maintained as low as about 285 degrees.I usually keep it a bit over 300.
Jahred Klahre I have another video going over some of the different products I use I believe color and was included. I don't use salt but you can. I use scented worm oil after packaging.
How long do you wait after you take out from microwave before u start dippin. My buddy gave me plastic to price with. But im making smller tubes for trout
@@theeverydayfisherman3905 not in my case. Cuz it just slides off. Feel me. Like its all watery still. Thats why im asking. Bro. An whether its a thinner or thicker rod. Shouldnt matter ya know. It should atill thick. An what if you dont have worm oil ro oil the rods. What else can u use??
@@NateAndSons91 only problem im having now is i cant get em to round out from the tips man. I try an try an just cant get it. An yiu make it look simple
Jpeace530 I haven't tried this yet but I don't see why it wouldn't work... You could dip a chartreuse tube same as shown in this video, cut away the top half of the tube, remove it from the rod leaving just the tail section and re-dip the head in the second color.
To make a different color tail just dip the tube in whatever color tail you want first...Once, maybe twice. Then dip the tube in whatever color you want the head to be but only about halfway down. Don't dip the tube all the way down in the plastic. Do it that way once or maybe even twice. When you split the tail with your splitter do it where the colors divide.
gary Flood I've been buying my plastic, Which was manufactured by Calhoune (check spelling), from Baitjunkys. I don't think they are selling plastic anymore but another group called baitplastic (I think) is selling the same stuff. If you are cooking in a microwave you can get bubbles in you plastic. If your cooking on a stove top or Presto pot you will be less likely to develop air bubbles. Make sure when you're ordering your plastic you get it degassed. This will limit the air bubbles as well.
