Did this to my 2002 gmc sierra, the override button 4x turned my automatic lights off but I got tired of doing that. Bought a resister took 10 minutes. Works great I love it! Thanks Joe!
Can you expand on what kind of resistor ohm value? I can't find any hacks on using a resistor to bypass a ambient light sensor to solve the DLR nuisance
I just did this on my '00 1500, but put the resistor inline with a switch so I don't fully lose the AHL feature. Works like a charm (but on a 15 sec. delay).
@@geraldnavarrro8875 I followed this video exactly, all I did differently was add a switch inline before/after the resistor. With the switch OFF/OPEN, AHLs operate normally. With the switch ON/CLOSED, AHLs are disabled.
I got a 2000 Silverado 2500 and my lights come on soon as I start it and they won’t go off. Will this take care of that problem? I’ve looked and can’t find anything other than this video.
I was able to disable my running lights on 99 Chevy Silverado after watching Joe's video. Outstanding advice because my local mechanic had no idea what to do. Thanks Joe!!!
I confirm the dome override button shuts off the automatic headlights. Once in Once out Once in Once out Then chime and lights went off. 2000 Chevrolet suburban. Thanks again for the tutorial buddy.
I just cannot stand the vehicle/some engineer deciding when my lights go on or off. When I want them on, I will turn them on. When I want them off, I will turn them off. I've had my 05 Silverado for four years now, and I am so F'n sick and tired of having to shut off the lights. If I wanted them on, I would have turned them on! It makes me so furious, at times, I'm tempted to pull over and smash out all the F'n lights with baseball bat!! Of course, that would hurt me more in the end, but, for a minute or so, I'd feel that adrenaline-fueled satisfaction. If I meet the person responsible for the automatic lights on my truck, I'm telling you, whoever it is, they will part from me on their way to the emergency room.
You could've just changed out your ambient light sensor from your dash, they're really easy to replace. Take out your radio and reach in there to unscrew it, replace it and you're done
@@Alex68dash I'm done what? I'm all ears. What would simply exchanging that sensor do? It'll still be there, turning the lights on and off as it is designed. No?
@@johnafagerquist8235 it'll make it so when you're out in the sunlight, your headlights won't automatically turn on when you turn the ignition. It will still be automatic headlights but just now they'll turn on when ever you're in dark lighting conditions
@@Alex68dash Thank you. I see what you're saying. I'm realizing, now, I've been referring to the "running" lights, which come on every time, all the time, when the vehicle is running, and have to be shut off manually; if one can figure out how, as headlights. I don't want any part of my exterior lights to be on, unless I turn them on. Brake lights go on when I press the pedal. I want all other lights to be off until I turn them on. I have a rudimentary understanding of electricity, and can probably direct wire switches to get what I want. I am just sick and tired of all this automatic crap being added to things in the name of intutiveness. I tend to find, the more intuitive they make something, the less likely it will now do what I want it to do, and the more likely it will do something I really don't want it to do. Cheers!
What worked for me was on the middle plug on the bcm there is 2 white wires, one is for the headlights and the other is for the parking lights i just cut both and now i can control them through the light switch! The parking lights are in pin A5 and the headlights are in pin A11. Remember that its the middle plug on the bcm. Hope this helps.
This is the fix for 99! I pulled middle plug, pulled blue retaining clip off of Row A and pulled A11 from back. Put plug back together and plugged it in. Now all that runs automatically is my running lights, which I dont mind or I would have pulled A5 as well. Thanks for finally putting out a fix Tired Bum!
They’re supped to be on during the day when the headlights are off and it’s in gear assume the automatic feature works and the headlights actually turn off. What I’m planning on doing is getting some aftermarket headlights that have built in led running lights and in the socket that is there for normal running light to be plugged in I will put more amber lights and wire them up to also be blinkers. Then I’ll just get rid of the current wiring for the daytime running lights and make them their own thing as if I was hooking up a led light bar and they’ll have they’re own switch. I’ll also do what this guy says and get rid of the automatic headlights so that they’ll actually turn off.
You have to hop around the car on one leg 1 time, pat yourself on the head 2 times, burp 3 times and THEN press the dome overide bunton 4 times. Good luck! Lol.
Thank you sooooooo very much. I was able to press my " Dome Override" twice ,heard the chime and off they went. Sometimes it's preferred to sit with my Yukon running at night without blinding the neighborhood!

I can give you 1 perfectly good reason sir. If I'm " parked " somewhere for whatever reason at night and need to keep my vehicles motor operating for the purpose of A/C or heat, why do my headlights need to be on?
@@neilhoogendoorn8045 That'll work. I had a 98 C1500 and when the parking brake was applied the " DRL" were disabled, not quite sure why GM abandoned that feature.
