Thanks Abraham. I'm replacing a dead HD on a friend's iMac. I would have started by attacking the screws at the bottom. Your video saved me many hours of pain
Thanks for the clear and explanatory video. It's gives me a lot of confidence having built PCs and Hackingtosh machines before since the days of dual Athlon rigs. This seems doable. Time to get a not so new iMac with a busted glass for repair and upgrade.
Thanks for that video. My daughter had this Mac and it had not worked for years. She wanted me to take the hard drive out and throw the computer away. There is no obvious way I was able to do it thanks to this video, I was able to do it. I have another suggestion for taking the magnetic couple frot screen off because I do not have a suction cup. I used a box cutter knife and easily wedged it in the top right-hand corner. This did not damage any of the computer. I then used a screwdriver and pushed behind the wedged blade and was it was easy to release the strong magnet couple.
Thanks bro, I have done a few of these now but your advice about un-plugging it is crucial, I blew my house circuit breaker (thank God!) when I pulled the wrong power supply in error.
thank you. it helped. lets see if you have diagnostic videos. my imac 27 inch mid 2012 just stopped working and now i need to understand if it is power supply or hard drive that broke
Oh! That's where they keep the sugar.. Nice and instructional, I almost threw away my 27-inch mini-Mac monitor because it was overheating..Keep up making these videos..
I an working on an iMac to take out the hard drive. Did not have the model number or serial number. Did a quick search and came across your video here with the exact model. Thanks for posting it helped a lot!! Do you have a video concerning a video card replacement?
I had the 21" version of this and I could tale the glass off with my fingernails it was so easy to take off since I got my nails and put them between the frame and the glass and it came off
hi. Thanks for this; it helped me quite a lot. My mid 2010 27" Imac is a bit noisy and I thought of dismantling the front screen, to clean up the fan. Maybe it has some dust in it. Could you put the ebay reference for the magnetic thing you used to pull up the screen? thanks!
is there any possibly way to replace the graphic card even if you got a whole circuit board for a tear down mac ..Mine is 2012 version Iv had for last few years and sadly everything is coming over is over 1 gb and it's pretty outdated now
What an interesting video! I had no idea how to take apart my iMac w/o cracking something! You did a great job of explaining and demonstrating everything. You mentioned cleaning out dust. Do you have a video demonstrating how to do that? I have recently started having problems with my screen suddenly going black. The computer is still running. If a video is playing, I can even still hear it. But I can't see the screen again w/o doing a hard power off and starting up again. I came to YT to see if other people are having that problem and many people are, esp. on the 27" late 2009 iMacs, which is what I have. Do you happen to have a video that addresses this issue?? Thank you so much for your informative video!!
Thanks to you my MAC is now a boat anchor...all kidding aside with your help I was able to disassemble, clean, reassemble and get rid of a condition where it was over heating and shutting off the monitor. Total success saving me hundreds of $$$$. Thx
I've got an old iMac with some water damage and was struck by lighting through its ethernet port. Is it worth saving as a secondary screen? It still turns on but I had to take out the drive to get all my projects off.
I was given one of these however it was plugged in and I heard some clicking and popping sound I wasn’t sure it was the wall socket what was the actual computer so I unplugged it however it doesn’t turn on it seems like the on and off switch is faulty or something because doesn’t seem like it moves at all when you press it what are your thoughts
I need to remove hard drive and download contents to a flash drive. Is there and adapter I can purchase to connect to my laptop and extract pics from the drive? Thanks
Does the same disassemble steps apply to a late 2009 27" iMac or are there difference sets of cable wires for that model? And do you happen to know if a Mid 2010 27" LCD display panel is compatible with a late 2009 A1312 model? I have to replace my display panel as it frequently goes Black even thought the computer is running in the background.
Hi! I got a 27” Apple Display Monitor (approx 2011) as a hand-me-down. (It’s not an iMac) It’s working great except for black spots and a yellowish tint in the display. Is there anyway to restore this? It’s possible this is a part of a “factory defect,” ..came across this in my research so far. Apparently it’s not able to be fixed, but if some ppl were able to get their monitor replaced at a Genius Bar 10 years ago, does that mean it’s possible to replace? It’s over 10 years old, so I doubt Genius Bar will work on this now hahah! It’s so pretty, hope I can restore it.
Hi, I have a question for you. I have iMac 2011 computer, when i touch a keyboard or iMac metal body i feel high electric shock. Please help me and tell me what i have to do????
thank you for this - however could I make some comments - PLEASE make sure you know which part is which - dont say "i think this is the power supply or maybe this!!" also if you are going to make a tear down video - please show all steps (your camera missed one of the connectors being removed) Just think about how you are going to film it before you start - maybe Fix Two cameras in position first - (or film it twice and edit it together) Hope you dont mind these comments but people often rely on vides like these and if steps are missed (not shown on screen) then its pointless
Do you can help me, I have a 27 "imac buying in February 2013, it no longer works, do you know how I can use the screen as an external monitor on my PC? Do you have any idea what parts should I buy exactly?
Please, one question? After disassemble my IMAC for cleaning cooling system then restored all part and cable.. found that audio not working . I can hear any sound . W I can do? Thank you
How about fans spinning for no reason all sensors seem to read right and all this after taking out the logic board once strangely enough did the same on like 5 computer so far and one acts wierd everything works fine but fans are spinning like crazy cpu and GPU fan temps seem fine give me ideas where to look one think I noticed os that controller hub die sometimes show and with temp 43 degree c. And sometimes dosent thanks in advance .
Great video. There is a bit of information I am looking for, but have not found it. It's about two small pieces of EMI tape on top. Can these be reattached when putting Mac back together? In UK ,apparently, these 2 small replacement pieces cost about £80 plus Vat. Can I use sticky aluminium tape instead? Thanks
I thought it was a #10 Torx! Why he says it's a T9 has me stumped. The T10 even felt a little loose for my liking but it was the only one that fit. No mention that you need an extra slim torx bit and extension to get down through the narrow gap, just that the first one doesn't "fit" but not why, because it's the regular size hex bit and a slim one is needed to get in there.
