Fix Jura Z5, Z7, Z9
Repair Jura Z5, Z6, Z7
How to fix Jura Z5, Z6, Z7
This instructional video demonstrates how to open Jura Z5, Z7, and Z9 espresso machines. All Jura Z series automatic espresso machines are identical internally and externally.
In this video, the Guru explains how to:
1 - Open the Jura Z series espresso machine using the oval head key,
2 - Access the brew group, and
3 - frequently replaced internal parts
We sell all the internal and external parts for Jura Z series espresso machines.
The oval head key to remove the oval head screws in the Jura machines is available for purchase. Here is the link to purchase it:
shopjuraparts.com/products/ju...
05:45 - Membrane Regulator - frequently replaced item in all Jura machines
06:16 - Transformer - poor location in Z series, water leak from pump and membrane regulator spills over the transformer, hence gets shorted. The blown transformer results in the machine not powering on.
09:04 - Electronic ceramic valve aka multi-way motor valve.
10:10 - Brew Group access and removal. Click the link to purchase the Jura Z series brew group:

This is a great video! Thank you! My machine is intermittently brewing coffee, and then at other times passing water right to the tray. Sometimes it makes a partial cup of coffee and just filter the rest of the water to the tray. Do you know what needs to be looked at or replaced? Starting to take the machine apart now using your video.

Thanks! I have a problem that the Z5 don't fill up with water (fill system) pump activates and humms for ~10seconds and then stops, stills showing Fill system after that. I think all water ends up in the tray Is that pump membrane or valve problem you think? /Stefan

Just to follow up in case anyone has similar problems in the future, I borrowed a portable appliance tester (plugging the machine into an RCD socket will do, to save you tripping your mains supply repeatedly). I was able to see that the machine was failing insulation check. With the machine dissasembled , sides, back and top removed, I systematically unplugged the obvious items...heater units, transformer etc, checked the mains cable was not shorting etc. Then looked at the power pcb on the back of the machine and disconnected the molex connector with the heaviest gauge wires, as I assumed these would be the ones carrying current, not just over or signals(to isolate all feeds out from the pcb). The unit then did not trip the mains supply, so I followed each of the 7 couloured wires from the plug to each device on the machine. Finally stripped down the grinder assy and disconnected the grinder motor - bingo! The motor assy and wires were coated in a film of coffee oil after years of grinding, so I wiped off the oil from the motor assy, used an airline to blow out any debris from the motor windings (and gave the grinder assy a good wash down while I was in the area). I had the motor insulation tested and it was found to be fine after it had been decontaminated. Reinstalled the grinder assy,plugged in and machine powers up as it should. I just need to recalibrate the grinder now with a few sample cups, but so far it’s looking good. Z5 is back alive!

Hi Parts Guru, very helpful video stripdown. I have recently replaced the 3 way pressure check valve (between pressure relief assy and boiler) due to a leak on Z5. Machine was all dried out and repair carried out fine, machine used for the last 3 days and all fine until tonight when the machine tripped out my RCD. Suspecting another leak I have disassembled the machine again to inspect it internally, but it’s 100% dry, no leaks, now pooling of water. I’d just had a good coffee from the machine when a few minutes later the power in the house tripped out (possibly coincides with 10 min delay before milk nozzle rinses?). The machine will not even power up now to get it to a start cycle, immediately trips out the 240v. I have inspected the mains power cord for any damage and internally machine is clean, dry, no obvious overheat marks, transformer looks like new, did not hear any loud bangs and cannot smell anything that suggests component damage....any suggestions on where to start fault finding? Thanks you in advance, keep up the good work!

+Parts Guru I have the Z5. I got the "Ground Empty" message even with full coffee bean in the container. It seems like issue with light sensor. is it easy to fix or I have to send the unit back for repair (will cost me $450). What part number should I order? Thanks - cqn
@PartsGuruUSA
@PartsGuruUSA 8 лет назад
+Cuong Nguyen Hi...The issue may not be the sensor as the bean monitoring sensor rarely goes bad. Instead, you should clean out the coffee grinder chamber. I am not sure how often you have cleaned out the coffee grinding chamber. Also, you should not use oily, dark roast coffee beans in super automatic espresso machine. We have posted a grinder cleaning video on our RU-vid channel. Here is the link to watch the video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EviHoQSlBeE.html I hope it helps you fix your coffee machine. I would rather you fix the machine yourself to save on repair costs. We are here to help, should you have more questions.

Hi our old Z5 is no longer filling with water. It was getting very slow and when we replaced the filter cartridge now no water goes through at all. We can't get to the manual decalcifying function. (Under "Maintenance" everything except "decalcify unit" shows up on the panel.) Now it only shows "system fill" every time and does not make coffee.

Hi David...Thanks for the awesome video! I heard a loud pop from my Z6 this morning. Turns out I have a blown hose from the pump to the steam boiler. Is this just a symptom of something else, or is it common to see a blown hose? Also, my machine has 5000 espressos with steamed milk, 3000 pre-ground espressos with steamed milk, and 3800 steamed milk only. Should I be replacing any parts? much appreciated.

Your site is very helpful. Plus with the order of the Jura service tool I was finally able to make a repair with the parts I ordered. The grounds scraper replacement from brew group. Now all is working but a new sound has come up. At the beginning of a cup brew cycle the is a load buzzing that goes away half way through the cup. I can hear and feel its coming from the lower right side rear of unit. Is it the pump or diaphragm?
@PartsGuruUSA
@PartsGuruUSA 8 лет назад
+Jay Brady Hi, did you by chance disassembled the magnetic valve that is located below the grinder motor? It has a long metal pin that pushes against the drainage valve actuator to allow the hot water into the brew group. Please ensure its seated properly. That is a likely source of the buzzing sound.

If the water is not constantly flowing from the water tank to the pump, the pump makes the loud noise. You should also descale the machine.

Hi David. We don't recommend Jura machines as the brew group in these machines is not accessible unless you take the machine apart. Over time, the brew group gets dirty and clogged due to used coffee grounds and cause brew group malfunction.

+Kim T Hi Kim: There could be multiple items that caused the machine to not turn on: 1. Thermal fuse mounted on the boiler. 2. Transformer 3. Power board. 1 and 2 are the likely culprits. Do you have the oval head tool to open the machine for inspecting these items?

hello, on the new Z6 model making a hot milk cup is coming out warm/cold even if i set the temp to 10(max) , Jura says this is normal as the milk temp controlled to 140 max. but i find this disappointing for a 4000$ machine, do you have a trick to increase the milk temp or make the thermoblock heat the milk further ?
@PartsGuruUSA
@PartsGuruUSA 7 лет назад
+bonjourq Hello: this is a common issue with all Jura super automatic coffee machines. Most owners don't realize it, I'm glad you brought it up. Jura is a marketing company and does not manufacture the machines. The machines are promoted and advertised as Swiss made but they no longer are. They're made in Portugal. Where are you located? I can suggest a better super automatic machine that will steam hotter milk and produce better tasting coffee than Jura machines.

I heard a loud Poof sound while making a latte this morning and then water went all over my counter. I watched this wonderful video and im thinking it would be a pump issue. What do you think? I know you haven’t look d at it but since youve worked on so many of them- just curious. The next machine I get is going to be the one you guys designed!!!!
@PartsGuruUSA
@PartsGuruUSA 6 лет назад
Hi Judi, The loud poof sound could be one of the hose that might have been burst or a ceramic valve. Ordering the oval head key is a good start that I would have recommended. Please open the machine to see if you could find an obvious damage. I’m curious to know what you find. Let us know. We’re here to help!

I am having the exact same problem with my Jura Z5 that Frederic Valiquette mentions in his post from a year ago. My milk froth button and cappuccino button only make two beeps when I push them, but don't do anything else. The rest of the machine works fine. I have decalcified the machine twice and cleaned it with tablets twice, but nothing has worked. Help! Please!

Are you able to get hot water from the hot water spout? Can you make coffee by itself?

@lrotman2 9 лет назад
Yes, I can get hot water from the hot water spout and can make coffee by itself. The only things I cannot do are get steamed milk and operate the cappuccino button. The only thing that happens is the machine beeps twice when I push those buttons.
@PartsGuruUSA
@PartsGuruUSA 9 лет назад
Len Rotman There can be multiple reasons why you can't make latte or cappuccino. The Z models in Jura machines use an electronic multiway valve aka ceramic valve that controls the distribution of hot water and steam for making cappuccino or latte. It also controls the flow of hot water to the hot water outlet beside the dual coffee spouts. I don't think the ceramic valve is malfunctioning. It is more likely the issue with the steam boiler/thermoblock. Also, the boiler thermal sensor or thermal fuse could be malfunctioning hence the steam boiler does not heat up to make steam when you press the cappuccino/latte button.Have you opened the machine to isolate the issue?
@michaelgeorge5408
@michaelgeorge5408 9 лет назад
Parts Guru We have a similar problem, but have one other symptom to add. When I press the Steamed Milk button I get about 3 seconds of steam before the two beeps.....Then the machine stops and I get a "System Fill" message. Coffee works, Hot Water Spout works, Steam works for 1-3 seconds then System Fill message, then done. I hope this isolates my issue a bit further from Len's.....Please Help!

Hello sir, kindly look at my video and share your ideas, what could be wrong. My Jura Capresso Z5's milk frother doesn't work. When I press the milk button, all I get are two beeps and nothing else. I had exactly same problem as Michael George described. I couldn't make cappuccino/late. The machine would start pumping milk then stop after couple of second with "SYSTEM FILL" message. As long as I could make regular coffee - I didn't attempted to fix it. After a couple of month I started to get "SYSTEM FILL" when trying to make regular coffee. At the beginning machine tried to pull some water and after several attempts it just stopped. I changed the filter, pressing button for System Fill, get message System is filling. The machine doesn't make a sound and "SYSTEM FILL" shows up again. Please help. What could be broken? Where can I get the parts to replace. Thanks in advance
@PartsGuruUSA
@PartsGuruUSA 8 лет назад
Hi Elena, SYSTEM FILL could be due to various reasons. Lack of de calcifying the machine is one of the potential reason. There's also an electronic multiway valve in Z models that directs the flow of steam and hot water for cappuccino and coffee outlet. This part is located at the bottom right of the machine when facing the machine from the front. You can remove the side panel to monitor the water flow. We have all the parts in stock for Jura Z models, however there isn't just one part that would fix this problem. If you're unable to fix it yourself, you may ship your machine to us for repairs. We're here to help!
@justcoolstuff3685
@justcoolstuff3685 8 лет назад
+Parts Guru Thank you, Guru! I opened the machine to see water flow. Once I turned it ON - System Fill message appeared. Pressed the button , message changed to System Fills and that's it. No sound, water is not flowing, pump doesn't make a sound. Do I need to replace the pump? Thank you!
@PartsGuruUSA
@PartsGuruUSA 8 лет назад
Hi Elena, Pump is typically the first suspect but in most cases it is the lack of proper de calcification that clogs the water passages inside the machine thus resulting in SYSTEM FILL error. If there is no obvious leak while the machine sits idol then the machine is suffering from what's analogous to a 'heart attack'. You may need to replace a part that's malfunctioned and more importantly de calcify the machine thoroughly once you get the water flow going. It's hard to tell what part needs to be replaced without looking at the machine. We are located in PA, USA. You may ship the machine to us for repairs, if you like. Please email us for shipping instructions and repair cost at repairs@partsguru.com
